Bright Spot: JC
he played better than i could of ever imagined for his first game. if we had any kind of defense we would of won this game. jason campbell is the real deal. too bad the d didn't give him any help.
|
Grade Jason Campbell
I'd give him a B+ and here's why:
#1 He threw for 19/34 for 196 yards and 2 TDs (with Lloyd dropping a 55+ yard bomb). #2 He didn't make any big mistakes - no INTs and no fumbles. #3 He evaded pressure pretty well. #4 He spread out the ball and was willing to throw deep. #5 He had no running game. #6 The defense couldn't get him back onto the field. #7 He was without Moss AND Portis. #8 It was his first start. #9 He looked poised in the pocket. #10 For the first time this season, I was actually looking forward to seeing the offense hit the field. |

Re: Grade Jason Campbell
ok ok sounds good
|
Re: Grade Jason Campbell
Hes got a rock laser arm! Im just glad every pass wasnt a 5yd dump off. Wish Llyod would have held onto that ball, cant wait til Moss is back in there and we can really strech the field.
|
Re: Grade Jason Campbell
He did great. too bad our defense didn't allow him to get on the field.
|
Re: Grade Jason Campbell
Unfortunately, I spent the day in Baltimore and had to watch the wack ass Ravens. So, I missed the game. However, just looking at his stats, Jason's day looked to be pretty nice, especially considering it was his first start.
|
Re: Grade Jason Campbell
No mistakes while moving the ball down the field... converted in the red zone... For his first game, I give him an A.
|
Re: Grade Jason Campbell
Overall pretty decent. A lot of QBs can look good they're first game though. What I really want to see is how he progresses.
I didn't see him look off receivers too much and his passes seemed a bit high on some of the shorter passes. Which leads me to this somewhat peculiar question. Is it harder for a tall qb to throw short to intermediate passes to short wide receivers? |
Re: Grade Jason Campbell
A/ B+
Told ya'll he should have been playing....since last year. Go JC! |
Re: Grade Jason Campbell
I give him an A. I thought his 1st start was great. Can't wait til Moss is out there. Props go out to Cooley today as well.
|
Re: Grade Jason Campbell
I just calculated his QB rating and it should be about a 93, not bad for a QB's first start.
|
Re: Grade Jason Campbell
A-
He had a few series where he missed the short/intermediate stuff, and we had 3 and outs. But he had NO run game, no D, and relatively few plays. He did not turn it over, and when he had to move the team, on the road down 10, he did it. That was a very mature, very professional drive. I am very encouraged about the future, at QB at least! Plus, you can see why everyone says he's a leader, with good character. He has POISE. You can't teach that. |
Re: Grade Jason Campbell
You can't ask much more from a guy making his 1st start. Looked extremely poised in the pocket.
Not to get off the point or hijack this thread, but has anyone seen the numbers Drew Brees has put up. |
Re: Grade Jason Campbell
He did good for his first game, I thought Duckett did good also would have liked to see him run the ball more.
It was refreshing to see passes going down the field for a change can't wait to see JC when the offence is in full gear!!! |

Re: Grade Jason Campbell
he played pretty well. he underthrew on some plays, lasered in others, had a couple dropped, and made some good passes on the move. I voted B- and think if he'd had a rushing game to back him up and a defense worth a lick, he would have gotten his first career victory today. Definitely an encouraging debut of Mr. Campbell.
|
Re: Grade Jason Campbell
I gave Jason a B+. I thought he played very well for his first game, actually much better than I thought he would. He managed the game well, had command of the huddle, and made good decisions. Had he had more opportunities, he may have won the game for us. My hat's off to Jason, the future is going to be bright for him.

Re: Grade Jason Campbell
If you haven't already done so, go to skins.com and check out JC's post game presser. If you do not feel good about this kid as our QB, I am not sure what you are looking for (not that anyone has said they're unhappy, but you know what I mean!).
He is poised, confident, positive, and committed to winning. He is clearly not overwhelmed by the NFL, but he's appropriately excited about learning and winning as a skin. Made great comments about his teammates, his coaches, even the bucs. WAY TO GO JC! (Now can we PLEASE give the kid some help out there???) |
Re: Grade Jason Campbell
Who in the hell gave him a B-/C+? Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but I'd like to hear why he gets such a low grade? Is it because you don't spell Campbell B-R-U-N-E-L-L?
|
Re: Grade Jason Campbell
What I especially liked was that he could throw the ball in the air for more than 5 yards and it didn't look like a punt. I recall the bomb to Lloyd that was dropped... those are the ones you GOTTA catch. I also liked his ability to feel pressure and slide away from it, run when he needed to, but move around to buy time mostly. I especially liked the one play where he felt the blitz shook of a tackler and still completed a pass downfield to, I think it was, James Thrash. There were a lot of situations out there today where I thought, if it were Brunell this would have been a throw away or a sack.
|
Re: Grade Jason Campbell
B+ and the only reason I didn't go A is because I think he's going to get better.
In a sick kind of way I have been hoping we'd lose enough games to get to the point where Brunell was yanked in favor of JC and I don't feel bad about that one bit, based on how he played today. Had Brunell made just a few more exciting Dallas '05-style big plays, regardless of our record, Jason may well have languished on the bench for another half a season or more, and this team simply couldn't afford to go another 6 games without a confident, inspiring leader running the show. Brunell is experienced, but I don't think the rest of the 'O' believes in him anymore. |

excatly my thinking! how much better would you want him to play? imean how much more can you ask of him? |
Re: Grade Jason Campbell
I'm giving him a solid B.
He played very well, better than I expected. Everything we heard about him appears to be true. He's a big, strong kid with a strong and accurate arm. He also plays with poise and looks to go down the field. I know it's early and he only has one game under his belt, but his future looks bright. |

I know I gave him a B- because he threw a few too many passes into the feet of his open receivers and over threw on a couple others. He's lucky he didn't get Lloyd seriously hurt with that one high pass. I thought he did very well for his first NFL action but it was still a slighty above-average start. It definitely gives hope for what the future holds for the team especially with a healthy offense and hopefully a few tweaks on the o-line. and I loved the call on the first offensive play with that beautiful pass down the sideline to Lloyd. |

I think some of his accuracy issues were to be expected considering he hasn't played in a game in almost 2 years. Give him a few starts and I think he'll settle down. |

Fair enough. I'd give him a better grade, but at least you've explaineded your position. I thought he made 2 throws that left me puzzled. But, he made a few REALLY nice throws (the 55+ yard bomb to Lloyd, the throw to Thrash with 2 defenders on him, the throw to Yoder). Moreover, he didn't make any mistakes and made some nice throws despite lacking ANY running attack. |
Re: Grade Jason Campbell
A. He simply makes plays that Brunell can not make. You can just see the amazing physical ability. Should have been starting all along. I'm just glad that it FINALLY looks like we have a QB for the next 10 years or so.

Agreed and I'm looking forward to that and the running game making an appearance again and getting Moss back will help that as well. I think one of the best things to see was how much he was looking to throw the ball to anyone open and not just focus in on one target and got the ball to 7 different receivers while doing so. |
Re: Grade Jason Campbell
Having seen the highlights, the kid showed great poinse, hung in and made some really nice throws. That throw to Yoder was a thing of beauty. That's a throw Brunell doesn't dare to make. I love the way Jason kept plays alive and made some tough throws. Looks like he's big and strong enough to where he's gonna be hard to bring down. I didn't see anything of him trying to run for yards...how did that look?

Re: Grade Jason Campbell
Hey guys, just got back from Raymond James (great time), I'll give him a A-/B+, thought he played really well. I think w/o the Betts fumble we win the game. I'm glad they gave JC a chance to air it out, but at the same time was dissapointed in our lack of commiting to the run.
PS: Can we please stop this Betts/Duckett talk, Portis IS OUR MAN, and Moss is our best WR. |
Re: Grade Jason Campbell
Portis is undoubtedly our franchise back. He looks great on the field and even better off (as we realize how we can't run without him). I wonder what Campbell would have done with Portis in the backfield and Moss at wideout.
Maybe Campbell will struggle in the next few weeks, but I'm very much encouraged by his performance. |
Re: Grade Jason Campbell
i would have given him an A- from the highlights but from what I heard He got pissed because they lost so i Gave him a A for showing emotion and that counts..
|

About time someone shows some friggin emotion. I'm encouraged by what I saw. I only hope moss is in next week for this guy. It only gets tougher, but I'm relaly happy in what he's done. |
Re: Grade Jason Campbell
Others have touched on it, I think the key is that JC has confidence that he can make big plays, whereas with Brunell you always sensed that he was afraid of taking chances, and exposing his very real weaknesses.
This is why Brunell didn't come alive last year until there was nothing left to lose in the Dallas game, and also why I've always thought of him as a game manager rather than a game winner. |
