Sean Taylor
I love watching this guy play, but he sometimes gives me a LaVar vibe. He looks like Ronny Lott on some plays and whiffs just like LaVar on others. It also looks like he freelances a bit too much. I apologize if this has been discussed before, but I never see anyone criticize this guy here.

He looks to be playing hurt to me. Definitely not himself today. |
Re: Sean Taylor
I thought he played okay... but I wasn't trying to pay too much attention to our (lack of) defense today... it was frustrating....
|
Re: Sean Taylor
Taylor wasn't the problem today (nice FF), but he's been having a bad season.
|
Re: Sean Taylor
I think Taylor misses that steadying force at SS. He knew he could take risks last year and Ryan Clark had him, I think as he works with Vincent more he'll get more and more comfortable.
|
Re: Sean Taylor
He's got no off-field distractions (drunk driving charge, shooting charge) to get him all worked up and channel his agression on the field. He's too happy.
Daseal, would you mind slashing his tires for the good of the team? Maybe kick his puppy while you're there too. |

Re: Sean Taylor
This is what I been saying guys the hole season he's isn't near the level he showed last year.
He's missing a lot of assingments last week D.Stallworth TD was totally his I don't know if he's trying to do to much or he's just not doing what he's sopuse to. But he sure isn't playing at a top level right now. |
Re: Sean Taylor
Everybody on the D is going for the big hit or the strip. They look nothing like the swarming, gang tackling D of the past 2 years.

I've noticed that too. We never swarm. Bunch of heartless bitches playing for our D right now. I hate them. |

Woah. I said nothing about killing. Just a swift kick |
Re: Sean Taylor
NO FIRE on the D. They don't play (with few exceptions) like they care. No tackling fundamentals.......hit, wrap, drive....easy
|

Not to mention that our surest tacklers from last year (Taylor and Washington) are both good for at least one whiff per game. Gibbs needs to get medieval and have the whole team practice in full pads like he did in the old days. |
Re: Sean Taylor
A swift kick from me will also be the killing blow. I prefer that, puppies fly farther when they go limp!
|
Re: Sean Taylor
Taylor missed several tackles yesterday. Other than that he played great haha
|
Re: Sean Taylor
I've said it before but I think that Taylor is underachieving given his considerable talents. At the moment he is playing ok and is one of the few defensive players that doesn't look terrible, but with his abilities he should be dominating.
As a person, Taylor appears to be an ass but that doesn't matter if he plays like the beast he is capable of being. The problem is, he isn't. If he had the work ethic and brain of an Art Monk or a Darrell Green he could be an all time great. He should be going to the pro bowl every year. Now, I agree that he isn't helped by the dross that currently surrounds him on the Skin's d but he needs to step up and be a leader. |
Re: Sean Taylor
I'd like to see him at MLB, but everyone else seems to think that is moronic
|
Re: Sean Taylor
Zimmermans, there is another thread about moving Taylor to MLB. I just don't see it. Taylor could be a decent MLB but he can be a great safety. Also, if we move him to MLB, who do we move to safety? Arch? It would merely create another problem for the dreadful d.
|
Re: Sean Taylor
True, I just fell like taylor makes far to many tackles at safety, and is always looking to make the big hit, just seems like a libebacker mentality. Not that great of a cover guy.
|

he doesn't even know where he's supposed to line up, much less direct 10 other people on their assignments. he's also a bit undersized and has no experience at MLB... |

He makes so many tackles because there is no pressure from the front 7. I think that he can be a better cover guy with a better partner in crime (ie Ryan Clark) so that he isn't expected to do everything himself. Better to stick Arch at linebacker if anything. No loss to the secondary. |
Re: Sean Taylor
undersized? then what is holdman?
|
Re: Sean Taylor
marshal i mean
|
Re: Sean Taylor
marshall is undersized, and he has a LOT of trouble shedding blocks, if you haven't noticed. he was a safety in college too. but marshall is smart and knows how to line people up... at least, it seemed like he did last year.
|

oh trust me, i noticed

What the hell? It seems like the entire Unit got stupid and useless since last season? |
Re: Sean Taylor
When a defense plays consistently as bad as we have this season, it's difficult to point the finger at any one thing, or person. The unit has not performed very well, that's the bottom line. We can go up and down the defensive lineup, find fault, and point fingers at just about every position, but GW admitted after yesterday's loss, he can do a better job of coaching as well. This unit needs to be shopped for a tune-up, and it's going to be interesting to see what changes are going to be made to make to unit more effecient. We cannot go into another season with these same players in tow because they have demonstrated game after game they cannot get the job done.

Bellichek did it to the Pats and look what they did to the Packers on Sunday |
Re: Sean Taylor
With the defense healthy, we need to stop pampering these guys
|
Re: Sean Taylor
I think Taylor is just having an off year. Basically the defense is having an off year all together. I can't think of one player who has been steady making plays. Maybe Washington, but I saw him miss a couple of tackles yesterday.
I'm more concerned with our top 10 pick Carlos Rogers. So far he's looking like a wasted pick. I give him one more year to get his shit together. |

I think that may be the problem with the tackling. Gibbs treated these guys with too much kindness in training camp, limiting their time in pads and now we've got guys who don't want to hit. I miss the swarming defense of the past two years, and without that swarm guys are pressing. Taylor will be alright, he's still got the best speed/size ratio for a safety in the NFL. But he's having to come up in run support too often to compensate for our pourous front 7. No one on our defense is playing well, and I think they've tuned out GW to a degreee. We've got blown assignments, poor tackling, and will somebody get Carlos some stickum! |
Re: Sean Taylor
its almost like the chicken and the egg. if you practice hard, and in full pads, and someone gets hurt, then people will want to know why the hell we were going full tilt in practice. but we see the results of not practicing. these guys have been playing football there whole life. missing tackles is strictly a lack of concentration
|
Re: Sean Taylor
if you want to tackle better, practice more. our club med offseason had consequences... that couldn't possibly explains it all, but maybe that and the huge checks (lost motivation), injuries, and age are compounding. It is pretty hard to figure out.
|
Re: Sean Taylor
ever since the patriot preseason game when brady picked us apart we have never been the same.
|
Re: Sean Taylor
I think he will play more inspired once I tell him that Steve Smith stole his ATV.
|
Re: Sean Taylor
no he needs to go freakin nuts like he used too. like spit on every one. i hate how he plays the man rather than the ball, thats what it seems like.

Re: Sean Taylor
Everybody on the D is going for the big hit or the strip. They look nothing like the swarming, gang tackling D of the past 2 years.
Probably because they're trying to overcompensate for massive deficiencies elsewhere. When you're down a few touchdowns and getting whored out by the opposing offense, going for big strips and whatnot is about all you can hope for. |
Re: Sean Taylor
Along with sloppy plays from our defense, I think the opponents figured out Gregg Williams' defensive scheme. For example, we rushed EIGHT and still didn't get to Buc's QB. For the past 2 years, we had very good success when we blitzed. Now, it seems like they know where the blitzes are coming from and pick up our blitzers. Along with every player on D to step up, Gregg Williams also needs to makes some changes/adjustments to his defensive scheme.

Re: Sean Taylor
i think taylor is just really pissed about the money AA got
