You resign Dockery. A big strong quick guard, are you kidding. there are five people on that line and dockery seems to be getting the abuse. Samuels gets beat two or three times a game and Jansen hasn't been playing his best either. Rabach seems to be struggling. when the entire line struggles, you can't blame one guy. Last year during the win streak everyone was saying what a beast he was because he out there leading on run plays, pulling and mashing people. now all of the sudden people want to get rid of him. i just dont see it.

People are talking about getting rid of him because he's the only one of the five up for free agency this year. Nobody's saying Dock is the reason the line has disappointed.

The real question is can we find an upgrade? If we can, then it may be worth it. But it might be difficult to do so, given the importance of continuity along the line.

I expect Gibbs & Co to define their identity in the next 6 weeks. Until we make any decisions on Dockery, we should see how the line shapes up coming down the stretch here. Remember 2004? We started 3-7 but finished 3-2. The line, Ramsey, and the entire offense started to get in sync. With Campbell in the fold, it's quite possible we look much better by year's end, and that the entire offensive line plays better. I'd reserve judgment on Dock for now.

CONSISTENCY! Leave the line alone. Dock is one of the better players this year.

Samuels has had bad games, but he seems to be getting his form back. Jansen is a turnstyle, Thomas isn't the same, and Rabach is mediocre. I'm fine drafting any of these positions, as long as we don't expect a rookie to start.

Re: So Will It Be A Free Agent Guard, Draft Pick, Or Resign Dockery??

I brought up Dock in another thread this morning, cause I think this question will be one of the biggest of our offseason. I say sign him, however this is what we'll be faced with:
1) Maybe due to a weak fa class, he'll test the market & get a big offer.
2) will we be in the same position as we were w/Smoot & Pierce where we had opportunities to better the offer, but didn't?
If we end up in 2) I don't know how much he's worth. He's been inconsistent yet shown he can play well too. If somebody offers him big $ it will be a tough decision. I hope we can sign him at a reasonable amount & keep the line together.

Re: So Will It Be A Free Agent Guard, Draft Pick, Or Resign Dockery??

Keep him if we can...I doubt he'll get BIG money, given the play of the line in general, but he may get an offer. Consistency and youth here. Plus, we have needs elsewhere, and worrying about fixing the o-line will detract from that.

Depends on who may be available. Dockery is solid but nothing spectacular. I've been holding out hope he would really come on but it appears that he may never be anything more than a serviceable LG. He definitely isn't irreplaceable, that's for sure.

That first word is my only opinion of what the Redskins should do this offseason. We've tried everything else in the books.

Agreed, keep him if you can.
At the moment it's hard to pick out what to do with the O line as they are having a REAL bad season all around. I am getting real tired of seeing jail breaks up the gut of our line. Historically, Doc, and Samuels have been sometime week links and I am more than a little concerned about JC's blind side against pass rush. Samuels had a good week against TB as Rice was out. It may have been a different outing for JC if he was in?
However, there is an answer and it must be done, because they as a group are killing us. They looked C-ish against TB, and they suck. It won't be that way against Julius Peppers, and company.

Oh God, I am very worried about betts being able to pick up the blitz this weekend, it's not looking too positive for campbell's development against that front 4. Up the gut pressure is ok as long as they don't get any blindside licks on campbell, saunders better have a good pass protection scheme lined up, and betts better get his head out of his you know what or duckett will replace him before he can spell FUMBLE.

line chemistry is a big key to successful offense. keep dockery. but if rabach doesn't renegotiate, he might be walking

Re: So Will It Be A Free Agent Guard, Draft Pick, Or Resign Dockery??

I prefer to keep him for several reasons: (1) we haven't done too well in free agency lately; (2) we have more pressing needs than G and I'd like to see us spend a draft pick on an area of need; (3) Dockery will not command a huge contract; (4) unlike draft picks and free agents, Dockery is familiar with the system and our players; (5) Dockery is still young and has a lot of potential; and (6) I hate seeing us refuse to pay our own guys while freespending on other teams' guys.

Re: So Will It Be A Free Agent Guard, Draft Pick, Or Resign Dockery??

I also think it would send a good message to the rest of the guys on the team, that times are changing, and we are attempting to become a more loyal franchise towards our players like we once were. It's tough to play hard for a losing franchise like the skins if they know they are expedable, while if they knew that the team valued them, then that might provide something to play for.

Re: So Will It Be A Free Agent Guard, Draft Pick, Or Resign Dockery??

Dockery has got to go. He's no good, he doesn't play up to his weight and is terrible in space. The question is can we upgrade? A solid organization with a good personnel department (which the redskins don't have) could find a good guard in the 3,4, or even 5th round of the draft.

If we have a poor scouting department, why should we dump Dockery and rely on that scouting department to get us a better player?

Re: So Will It Be A Free Agent Guard, Draft Pick, Or Resign Dockery??

I disagree with our personnel department, not being good at getting draft picks. The only person I can think of, in recent years, might be a bust is Carlos Rogers. They have done a good job picking the players, just not a good job of keeping them once they mature, as players.

Daseal 11-22-2006 05:25 PM

Re: So Will It Be A Free Agent Guard, Draft Pick, Or Resign Dockery??

Carlos Rogers is in his 2nd year and you're calling him a bust? He certainly hasn't played great this year, but give him a pass rush and see how he plays. Look at his rookie year, he played great.

Last week he played really solid. No one could have protected against that Joey Galloway slant. It was the right call vs the right defense. During that play, any of us could have been on the field and same result. There's simply very little you can do against that. One of the fastest guys in the NFL on a slant with no safety help? Maybe had Carlos given him a cushion he could have kept an angle on him, but probably not even then.

Re: So Will It Be A Free Agent Guard, Draft Pick, Or Resign Dockery??

For the sake of stability, I'd keep Dockery. Especially if Gibbs is committed to his core priciple of running the ball as he said in his press conference after the Tampa game. I went to the Jacksonville game where I felt Dock more than held his own against All-pro John Henderson.

Re: So Will It Be A Free Agent Guard, Draft Pick, Or Resign Dockery??

I did not say he is a bust, I said he might be a bust. Everyone, Taylor, Archuletta, Rogers, and Springs have looked bad this year. But Carlos plays way to far off the receiver. When I see that, it says to me that he either does not have the speed to play the position or the agility.

I'm w/ya, except w/#3 - I fear somebody will offer him kinda big $, maybe the cardinals, they are in need of o-linemen. It will depend on what other o-linemen are available. I thin espn said it will be a thin fa crop, which makes sense since the cba was just signed & a lot of guys were cut and/or signed this past offseason. If that's the case, don't be surprised if someone is willing to overpay, we're not the only ones who do it.

Rogers' best 40 time was a 4.35. He has the speed. The coaches tell him to play that far off. Springs does the same thing. They did the same thing last year.

Well, I am not sure who's fault it is, but he has been burned repeatedly. He is lacking something.

Man I fell asleep and thought I woke up in 2004. Except that we freaking suck worse!!! This high paid coaching staff has not paid dividends! What a waste a of talent. Wake-up coaching staff, just because of your pedigree and your talent of what you have done in the past. Doesn't mean that all of the other teams in the NFL will just simply lay the f--- down for you! Yeah, that's right you actually have to get your players ready, mind body and soul to play game in and game out. What a waste!!!! And players, you don't get a pass either. Most of you guys are'nt even worthy of wearing that uniform!!!!!! Wake up and be men!! Throw this season in freaking garbage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: So Will It Be A Free Agent Guard, Draft Pick, Or Resign Dockery??

sign him for security, but we need another randy t type guard, and by that i mean a guard the can pull effectivley. i heard that dockery lost some wieght but he still can't get out of his own way.that's why when randy went down last year our running game went down with him.saunders likes sweeps but portis , betts are forced to leave dockery behind or gain nothing.you've got 2 tackles a 310 pounds, a guard a 305 and a center at 308. then dockery at 345 or more. he's a striaght line mauler , not a pulling guard which is what we need.
