What is CP worth
Clinton doesnt really seem to fit in Saunders's system. Saunders's system seems to involve alot of cutback lanes and catching the ball out of the flat. Portis is more of a downhill runner, he just keeps going forward, and he does not have the best hands. I think Portis is terrific, but economically we could have someone just as productive as him in Saunders's system for much much less. I hope Portis adapts to Saunders's system or Saunders molds his system to fit CP more, but if things do not work out and he does not produce under Saunders like he did for Gibbs, what do you think we could get for him? Draft pick wise preferably, or mention people you think we need and could get for him.
|
Re: What is CP worth
CP fits with any system because he does everything well. He isn't taylored to Saunders system, but trust me, he's worth more to this team than anything we could reasonably get for him.
|
Re: What is CP worth
"one milllllllllion dollarrrrrsss"!
Seriously, he is fit for the system. Just bc he sits on the bench he isnt fit for it? He was TD machine until he got benched. |
Re: What is CP worth
I know im really lost at where this post came from, Suanders knows what Portis does best and i assure you anything we got for him would not do anyhitng good compared to what he does now, why would you want to get rid of the guy anyway?
|
Re: What is CP worth
Do we really need to do this EVERY time Betts has a good game?
Portis is the better back, for this system, for ANY system, period. Don't get me wrong, I love Betts as our backup, and he obviously is a good RB, but he dosent touch Portis. |
Re: What is CP worth
Can lock this thread now...Betts will not be a Redskin next season and CP is the man on this team.
|
Re: What is CP worth
I'm not saying that he isn't good in Saunders's system, I'm just saying that his strenghts that make him so great aren't highlighted under Saunders. He can still produce, but not to his potential, and for what we're paying him, we could get about the same production for a third the amount.
edit: Portis is best on a team dedicated to the run- I dont think thats Saunders edit: and dont forget this is all hypothetical, really why I started this is not to say that we should deal Portis, I mainly just wanted to know what we could get |
Re: What is CP worth
give portis a full healthy season in this system and lets see how he does
|
Re: What is CP worth
how many times do we have to rehash this?
portis ran inside and outside in denver, and he's the best outside runner we have by far (due to his speed). he has great hands for a RB, though he's never going to be LT or faulk. the bad fit for saunders system is our O line, and our FB, who isn't that fast. saunder's system had really good OL guys, and our line can't do what they did (i don't think we have 2 HoF quality linemen either). the other problem was brunell refusing to go deep often and the overuse of screen passes, which left defenders setting up right where the runs were going. |

off topic but not really.
Does anyone remember that interview clinton did with the sport junkies where he talked about the difference between black and white porn and other "x-rated" stuff? Does anyone know where i can get that audio |

It was actually Portis that started that. He got on the air, and said "I only wanna talk X-rated". lol. And BSB I don't know where the link is on the net. |
Re: What is CP worth
it was online somewhere, (maybe wtop's website?) i didn't bother keeping it cause it really wasn't worth a second listen... it was funny though, and then moss came on afterwards and kept it going.

Re: What is CP worth
How many threads are going to discuss dropping players that cannot be dropped with the current salary cap?
CP doesn't work in Saunders system? That is funny, he was leading the NFC in touchdowns when he got hurt. Why would we get rid of a guy who runs his ass off whether he is healthy or not? Because he got hurt? Pure insanity. |

I have a problem with this, this seems to be the trend we follow year after year. Saunders has done absolutely nothing for this team, so we trade off Portis for a lesser accomplished back with potential(Trung Canidate anyone) and a couple of draft picks, so after Saunders flops because his offense just isnt tailored to the NFC east, what does that leave us with, absolutely nothing. If Saunders doesnt leave this team before Portis I will be outraged. Trading CP is alot like what we did when we traded Champ Bailey, theres absolutely nothing that would be of equal value, CP in my mind is a top 5 back when healthy and in my oppinion is the absolute best blocking back in the league, in my mind he should be absolutely untouchable as far as trades are concerned. |

I don't get it either, if anything CP can run to the outside better than betts or duckett, and that is exactly what Al did in KC. Either way CP is top 5 back in the NFL, he can run strong inside, and hop outside. That is what makes him amazing. I cannot imagine cutting/trading him. |
Re: What is CP worth
Clinton Portis is one of the best rushers in the league. Trading him away would be the worst move they've made...and they've made plenty of bad ones
|
Re: What is CP worth
Maybe the colts should trade Manning or the pats could get a #1 for Brady. Portis is elite, untouchable, a "keeper league" player. This whole discussion is asinine and I already regret posting in this tread knowing it will be sent to the top.

Re: What is CP worth
yea CP had 7TD's but with the exception of the Jacksonville game there was not a single game where he was consistantly able to pick up yards. We had so many 3 and outs. He'd have like 15 carries for 35 yards and a touchdown or two, and most of the yards he picked up that went towards his stats came from situations like 3rd and 25 and we'd call a run and CP would pick up 20. Our O-line isnt great but its not horrible either. And CP will be getting 8 mil a year soon. And yea hes not doing bad, but is he really worth 8 mil a year?
BTW im just kinda playing the devils advocate, I think CP is great, and will eventually pick up Saunders's system, but I dont think he had a good year this year. I dont actaully want to get rid of him now, I just think that on that off chance that CP doesnt get back into his old preformance mode within a couple of seasons but does OK,(ie repeats this year) then we should trade him because I think we could pick up a key player or two that we really need for him in a trade, and if he isn't preforming then we can easily get someone that preforms just as well and gets paid what they preform |
Re: What is CP worth
Here's my answer to the argument of Clinton Portis not being a good fit for Saunders' system. First of all, Saunders has been all over the place in calling plays this year. This team thrives on ball controlled offense, and we had gotten away from that this year. We haven't really allowed our running backs the opportunity to run the ball as much as we needed to. You know the Redskins are in trouble when the opposing team has the advantage in time of possession.
With that said, you give Clinton enough carries, he's going to get stronger. All good running backs get better when giving them more carries. It seems that we had gotten in the position...alot of times, of having to play with our backs up against the wall, and Saunders seems to want to take to the air more in those situations. Now, I will believe once we get Campbell going, we'll see how truly successful Al Saunders can be and how good our running backs can be in his offense, but I'd say that right now, no running back is going to be a great fit in Saunders' offense until the team figures his offense out, and until we continue to feed the ball to the backs more than what we had been doing up until this past Sunday. |

Re: What is CP worth
Clinton Portis is worth Champ Bailey and a second round pick
|
Re: What is CP worth
I would not go that far.
|
Re: What is CP worth
that is the most retarded thing i have ever read on this site ever. portis ain't going nowhere
|
Re: What is CP worth
besides LT becuz he just 2 great, CP iz the most complete back and the NFL he can block break tackles and catch out the backfield a handful in the open field alot of he trouble iz when the line doesn't get a push or iz in the whole clinton iz hitting you get 1 or 2 yard gainz but i see him make sumthing out of nothin and just get tripped up wit nothing but open field and front of him. face it people we have a TOP 3 Back and the NFL trust me he's the real deal.

Re: What is CP worth
Clinton portis is the best football player on this team. Even I know that. He was never healthy this season. It was a tribute to his heart and love for the game that he played and played as well as he did. Anyone who would suggest getting rid of Clinton needs to be seeing a whole team of psychiatrists.
|
Re: What is CP worth
Sorry if this has been said already...
I always think it's funny when people say things like this: "Portis doesn't fit into Saunders' system". Well, Portis is the one who plays on the field -- not Saunders. If Portis doesn't fit into what Saunders is doing, then Saunders needs to do something else. |
Re: What is CP worth
Not a single mofoin person answered the question. I get that Clinton is not going to be traded, but I didnt ask if he should be traded, I asked what is he worth, as in if he were traded HYPOTHETICALLY!!!!! what could we get, I just gave just about the only situation where Clinton would be traded when I mentioned that Saunders thing, but I might have mentioned like a million times that I get that Clinton isn't and shouldnt be traded, but this thread was just supposed to be a fun question. You dont like it, dont have you and thirty other people say how stupid this thread is, just dont respond. Read all my posts, and ull see that I think that Clinton will be fine in Saunders's system.

Re: What is CP worth
Okay. I think CP is worth two 1st round picks. I'd be willing to trade him for that.
|
Re: What is CP worth
What's he worth?
I dunno, why doesn't someone fire up Madden and put him on the trade block to find out?? ;) |
Re: What is CP worth
I dont think CP is worth as much now as he was in July. I dont think CP would fetch as much as most on this site think. He's a good 2nd tier back but not an elite like LT or SA.

2nd tier? C'mon, last year he was easily a top 5 back. This year he got banged up and never got started, but I think we'll see him return to form next year. |

Are we talking about a different Clinton Portis here? CP is only 25 years old (younger than both LT and SA) |
