The Warm and Fuzzy Christmas Thread...
 

Well guys and gals it’s Christmas time again. You know, visions of sugar plums and all that jazz. This is the thread to discuss all things related to the holiday season. Hopefully we can keep it light hearted and focus on the good things the season brings.

One of the things I remember most about Christmas growing up was how my parents did the whole Santa thing. In our house Santa was on a budget. My mom would actually tell me Santa could only afford $75 worth of toys (Hey… $75 bucks bought a lot of stuff in the 70’s), then she would give me the Sears Wish Book and say “knock yourself out”. My brother and I poured over the catalogue until the pages were worn out. Decisions, decisions… trying to figure out how we could get the most bang for the buck. Looking back I am greatful my parents did it that way. It taught me the value of a dollar early on and to appreciate what I have. I wish more parents would teach those kinds of lessons to their kids today.

So feel free to share your stories of Christmases gone by or maybe some of those retro Christmas photos with your cheesy “I got a new toy” grin. Talk about your plans for the holidays or about that special something you’ve got up your sleeve this year.

little sappy, thought i felt a tear coming on, I kno most of you are so old you cant remember what it felt like for presents to be under the tree in the moring after christmas its hard to find a happier memory when i was young (alright younger for all you old timers) and still believed in Santa.

But ever sence he robbed me i wanted to kill that fat basterd, honestly if you know where santa is send me an adress becuase that fucker stole cookies and milk, i mean we work to buy those cookies and he doesent do anyhting but work 1 day a year and have child/slave labor. He doesent even pay for the toys yet he gets paid by Billions of cookies every year, SANTA YOUR ON NOTICE

The good old Sears wish book, I remember that very well. As a kid I was a Star Wars nut, so I had a ton of the figures and ships.

My most memorable Christmas was when my brother and I got the Atari 2600 and a 13 inch black & white TV to play it on, talk about big pimpin'!

This is one of my favorite photos of me on Christmas morning. I even had an attitude back then. But I have to one up you on the Atari thing Matty. Check out the bottom of the photo.

My wife got the Millenium Falcon and STILL has it. Along with the X-Wing, the Imperial Shuttle, and a Walker (the two-legged kind). We gave them to my son, now he plays with them.

As for Christmas memories, I have a fairly recent one. My son's Christmas two years ago. He was one and a half, walking but not talking too well. We had been telling him about Christmas and Santa but he really didn't quite grasp the concept. We bring him down and there are a bunch of presents for him. Confused as to what they are, he sorta, with help opens the first one. As soon as he realizes that it's a toy that he has been wanting, he figures out that all the other presents probably contain toys and starts literally [I]trembling[/I] with joy. He can't wait to open all the presents and play with them. He was so amazingly happy that you couldn't help but be happy too.

Yup, I was a HUGE He-Man guy. Pretty much until I found out Santa didn't exist, my Christmases were spent specifically accumulating every single He-Man figure that existed.

Then the Nintendo came around.
Then the Super NES.
Then the Genesis.

Anyone else remember basically getting a new game console each Christmas?

It's funny you should mention that, I remember the JC Penny catalog's when I was a kid, I would sit for hours turning the pages making list's of shit I never got. The catalogue came in handy when I went through puberty though. At that time I was too young to buy porn mags so I would masturbate to the ladies underwear pages. (Did I just say that?) :rolleyes:

Yeah I remember getting the NES, that thing was off the hook. Super Mario Bros. and Mike Tyson's Punch-Out were like crack for kids.

Ahh, the Sears Wish Book. Or any catalog that had toys in it was a big deal in our house...

I was into He-Man as well, and that damn Castle Greyskull was an awesome Xmas. I think I had all the He-Man figures, with some duplicates. Had a Thundercats Sword too. And, I remember my Redskins Starter Jacket too. Makes me want to go to my parents' house and look through old photos.

As far as consoles go, I had my Dad's old Atari, and Mom thought that was good enough...when I was 9, for my birthday, we went to Luskins (old electronics store in DC area) and I got a 13 inch B/W tv. I thought I was big pimpin' with the Atari and rabbit ears attached to that thing! So, Mom and Dad never got me the Nintendo or Sega Genesis. However, one of my grandmothers, on top of all the presents, gave my sister and I each $100 to spend on whatever we wished. So naturally, that was the base of which the Nintendo and Genesis got purchased. Both the day after Christmas...

HAHA! And yeah, I forgot I had double that.

I never could beat Punch-Out. I got too frustrated beating Mike at the end and ended up just punching and getting my ass smoked. It takes like an hour to beat his ass.

I have a 9 year old sister so my family still does the whole Santa left presents for us under the tree (although I think she knows what's up by now) every year so that Christmas is just as special for her as it used to be for my older sisters and me. The major difference now is that I help to set up her new toys and stuff the night before and that now I know what I'm getting before hand (got a digital camera coming in a month). I also get the thankless task of eating the cookies that she left out for Santa, but I don't need too much convincing for that one.

As for one of my favorite X-mas memories: I used to be really into GI Joes when I was a kid and one year I got a huge fort and a bunch of new soliders. My parents set the entire base up and put the GI Joes throughout the room in a fighting position. I had to pinch myself because I thought I was still dreaming. That was a good day.

It shouldn't be long before someone posts a link to the N64 kid. Haha, such a great vid.

Anyways, my Christmases basically consisted of video games. I can still remember when I got my NES. It came with two controllers, two games, and a gun! These days, you're lucky if you can get a game and a controller. Oh well. Yeah, and I was a big Zelda fan ... beat them all on NES.

I remember, back in high school, still having the original NES box and the first issue of Nintendo Power ... gee, I would sure like to know where they are now ...

One of my favorite memories was the Super Toe kicking guy that would kick the shit out of those plastic footballs the harder you pounded on his head. I also got the Atari 2600 with the 13" BW TV. Those were the days.

When I was about 5 I got this little toy robot. It was this inflatable (3 feet tall or so) remote control robot from Radio Shack called Tandy. Damn, that bad boy was awesome!

Loved getting Laser Tag for Christmas too. This Christmas will be pretty cool, seeing as to how it's my niece's first.

AH! I remember Laser Tag. I love those industrial versions they have in tourist towns you can play. I get so hardcore when I go to those.

One year I got a Rock'Em Sock'Em Robots game for Christmas. My dad's younger brother used to live really close to us and he would come over every Christmas morning and check out what we got for Christmas. The year I got the robots he was probably like 25 but when he saw them he lit up like a little kid and demanded that my dad play against him like they used to do back in the day. Within about 5 minutes they go so into the game that they actually broke both of the robots because they were hitting the buttons so hard and fast.
I was pissed, but looking back, it was funny as hell.

Hell yeah! Anyone ever go to the one in Wildwood? That was one of the highlights of my childhood ... good times. :)
