F... recurring dreams
 

I have a few recurring dreams that I have time to time. Lately I've been dreaming of tigers or lions. They never chase me, I'll just see them walking down the street or something and I'm like holy shit there's a tiger! The last big cat dream I had I was choking a lion, weird.

I also have dreams of being in an elevator that's shaky and bumpy as all hell, and it feels like it's going to break loose at any moment and fall, it never does though. And even though I know the elevator is going to be shaky, I always get in it anyway.

And then there's always the good old I'm late for class or work dreams. I think those are pretty common though. The last one like that I had I showed up to class on the last day and we had this big presentation to do, and I turned to the person next to me and I was like damn I'm not ready for this at all, I didn't even know we had to do this! I just sat there sweating as people went up one by one and did their presentation. Thankfully I woke up before it was my turn.

I do have occasional Redskins related dreams. It's usually I've forgotten the game is on and I finally remember to turn it on and it's already over. I'm always so bummed out.

Anyone else have any weird recurring dreams?

I have a nightmare about my daughter falling into a tub of hot oil and frying... its pretty graphic and I pull her out alive and she's in shock and smiles at me while sucking her thumb (which she doesn't even do) because she can't feel anything i guess...

her skin falls off where I touch her and she has no hair on her body and blood oozes from places and she's beaming up at me in a daze...

Its the most horrific thing I have ever experienced, and I've dreamed it several times. I always wake up balling and in hysterics....


other than that, though.... no...

I wish I had recurring dreams of lions and shit... that would be fun..

I have a recurring dream where I can swim in the air. It's as if the world is a giant swimming pool where you can swim up above everything and look down, and to get places you swim there, it basically feels like flying except I have to swim to move around. But it doesn't feel like I'm in water, it feels like regular air. I'm not wet, and I can breathe normally. But everyone else has to walk and stuff like normal. It's a fantastic dream. Once I dreamt I swam up above a baseball game and watched from overhead. I wake up feeling really happy whenever I have that dream.

I don't know where this comes from. I'm no psychologist, but I've always thought that maybe I was at my happiest when I was swimming. (I used to be on high school and college swim teams and stuff).

I also have a recurring dream where college graduation is in a couple weeks, and finals are coming up, but I have been skipping this one class all semester, and I have no idea where my grade stands or if I have a chance to pull a passing grade. That one's stressful.

ahhhhhhhhhhh (pulling hair out of my own head)...

I've had some pretty graphic terrible dreams... but atleast they don't re-occur.

Usually dreams like that are based on anxieties (not going to psychoanalyze here) but it makes sense to have anxieties about loved ones, work, etc...

I always get this dream where Robots are crushing the world, trying to destroy all the cities. The robots look like those things from x-men.

So... I'm this rebel underground that's been chosen to defeat them. I develop an awesome plan with a huge underground movement backing me up. I was going to put little nukes in their heads to defeat them.

However for some reason, they grow twice the size because of the nukes. I watch in horror as they get huge and keep destroying. I usually wake up there and start laughing, but deep down inside, I still wait for the day to defeat them.

I have a reoccurring dream about once a week where I think our little one is in bed with us and either my wife or myself has rolled over on top of him and I'm frantically looking for him. I always wake up in the middle of it still looking for him until I realize I was just dreaming. The funny thing about having the dream is that we have never put him in bed with us, even when he was a newborn he was placed in his crib.

Sorry about the graphic details, but it kinda sets the tone... its a graphic dream and it always upsets me, but it does help remind me that anything can happen at any time and so I think it helps me be more patient with my 3 year old...


I used to have a dream similar to the one about the swimming thing... I would be walking on a path with loved ones and I would try to run ahead of them, and I would lift off the ground and swim a bit, but then I would just get stuck, hovering in the air off the ground until the people I was walking with (different people in the dreams) caught up and let me down to walk with them again....

when my sisters used to take showers while i was sleeping, they would make the most scary noises with there feet against the shower floor, almost like a gorilla. so i'm in this dream about riding a bear around the jungle and i here the most horrific sound of gorillas or killler monkeys ever (my sisters feet against the shower floor). i could never see the monkeys but they always made my bear run away and i'm stuck in the middle of nowhere. this happened several times but not with the same setting.

I used to have recurring dreams about snakes that started when I was about eleven years old. They're everywhere and they cover the ground where I try to walk, but there's always just enough room for me to put my feet down so I can get through them. But just as a get to the end of the path, one always strikes at me.

The strange thing about it is I heard one of those "dream doctors" on the radio once and she said snakes sometimes represent someone in your life who is deceptive or can't be trusted. Also, they may represent a male figure in your life. I'm like "oh my gosh, my dream makes total sense now." My dad left when I was eleven and he's the type of person who blames everyone else for the mistakes in his life and he takes very little interest in me. I always walk on egg shells around him, because I never know what will piss him off. No matter how hard I try I can't please him and in the end I always get bitten.

Once I heard that explanation, I haven't had those dreams anymore.

Yes, I've had that one. That one is a common one for people, so say phychologists. It means you're frustrated about something. In your dream you want to take out your aggression on someone or something, and you can't get the job done.

Another common one for people is the feeling of falling. That means there's something in your life that you don't feel in control of.

I have one similar to that except instead of slow motion I always miss the guy. Its like he's a ghost or super quick and I end up chasing the asshole all over the place. I get so frustrated that I go out of my way at work to piss the guy off, stuff like if we're walking towards each other I bump into him so he drops all the shit that he's carrying.

I dream a lot about work, there's nothing worse than dreaming about work all night then getting up and having to go to work.

I had a really wierd dream once. Actually the dream itself wasn't so odd. The circumstances surrounding it were though. So one night in college, I have this dream that I'm standing on one side of the road on campus and my friend is on the other side. So I wave to her, she waves back. And she starts crossing the street and BAM! she's hit by a bus. She goes flying up in the air and lands splat on the asphalt. But then she gets right up!

Ok, so flash forward to the next morning. I wake up, and think to myself wow what a crazy dream I'll have to Amanda (the girl in the dream) all about it when I see her. So the whole day passes and I don't see her, and I haven't told anyone else about the dream. Suddenly around 5pm she comes running to me "Oh my God! I'm so glad you're ok. I had the craziest dream last night. I dreamt you were on the other side of the street where the buses come. You waved to me. I waved back. You start crossing the street and where hit by a bus!"

I would think that's really unusual that we would basically have the same exact dream about each other. Schneed, your analysis?

Remember the dream I had about you Matty? With the lavender scented pillows, the wild sage candles, the strategically placed video cam....Seriously though, remember that weird dream about you getting banned?

So one night this summer I dreamt we had to ban Matty. I can't remember why but it was so bad we actually had to have the cops come and escort Matty away from his computer in handcuffs with his face hidden by a hoodie. And the whole warpath community was in shock as they watched the live video feed online of him being taken away. I remember Gmanc having to answer questions to the press. Brud and I calling for an emergency meeting with our Board of Directors, what would we tell our shareholders. Seriously, it was one of the oddest dreams ever.

I used to have this indescribable recurring nightmare. Unfortunately, it's so strange that it's kinda indescribable. It's not a dream about real-life -- it's just a non-stop series of changing patterns. There are no recognizable objects, but all that occupies my mind is clay and grass (like the patterns are maybe made of clay and grass). Doesn't sound very scary, huh? Well, for some reason I would always "feel" myself being very uncomfortable during this dream, and fighting it to no avail. Eventually, I'd wake up sweating heavily, and very confused and uncomfortable.

I don't have any dreams anymore (or I don't remember them). People say it's because of a certain herbal supplement I like to consume.

I normally don't remember my dreams much either, but the ones that I can remember usually have a lot to do with crap I saw the day before.
Last night, for instance, I remember that in my dream there was an interview on TV about a really jacked up hideous Dolly Parton (I had seen her picture on the cover of a tabloid at the store earlier in the day and it scared me). Then I dreamed I was following around a serial killer as the cops were closing in on him (probably because I was watching the show "Dexter" right before I went to sleep).
And then finally I had a dream that my house was being overrun by turtles and I had to save my dog (I have 2 turtles in a tank in my room and my dog was barking in the morning).

Basically, I think I'm the highly suggestable type.

This wasn't recurring, but when I was about seven or eight, I had a dream where I was sitting down to eat my lunch. I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, cut in half so it made two triangles. Before my very eyes, one half of the sandwich grew eyes, looked up at me, opened up and ate the other half of the sandwich. All in one gulp.

I think I watched too many cartoons as a young'n.

When I was younger I used to always dream that I was in either the back or passenger seat of a speeding car but there was no driver. I always had to reach over to try to steer but I could never get it to stop. The weird thing was, I never really got all that freaked out.
I'm sure a shrink would have fun with that one.

That sounds like something that would have happened on Pee Wee's Playhouse. The sandwich would have been made of clay and talked with a goofy accent.

Just read some of the techniques. It basically involves doing some little things during the day when you're awake so that your brain will be triggered when you are asleep. Things like looking at a clock, turning away and rechecking it right away. In your dreams the time will usually change and bingo, you know you're dreaming. That's just one technique, there are a bunch of others.

I have two recurring dreams. The first involves football. Somehow I end up getting put into a big game, either for the Skins or Penn State, at QB no less. The problem is, I can't throw the ball. I can't even grip it. I try to throw it and it goes like 3 yards. After the first throw people are like okay, it slipped but it keeps happening, and the fans start booing. Finally someone is open deep and I heave it as hard as I can and it just flutters out of bounds (please resist the urge to insert a Mark Brunell joke here). I seriously have this dream all the time. A variation of it involves me leading the US open on Sunday, having somehow played amazing. But then I find myself on the first tee in front of the crowd with my real life golf game. So I tee off and it slices out bounds. The next ball I top and it goes like 30 feet. And the worst part is, I have to sit there and hack through the toughest test in golf.

The other dream I repeatedly have involves me being back in University and screwing up my g.p.a. by failing some class. The class changes, the details change, but I goof off and end up blowing the whole thing.

I had a really really cool lucid dream. I was walking on the beach and just sort of realized I was dreaming. I ran around and jumped in the water, and could basically control everything. I even decided to wake up by trying to open my eyes really hard.

Blew my mind, but I haven't done it since.

Also, I take melatonin as a sleep aid and it makes my dreams incredible vivid. I've had dreams where I thought someone had broken into the house and the alarm sounded. Even weirder is that I woke up covering my ears because it was so loud it hurt them.

For several minutes I roamed around the house with a golf club and it was then I realized that it might be a dream. I couldn't totally convince myself so I went online and researched side effects of melatonin.

Sure enough, it was exactly what was causing the vividness. Scared the shit out of me.
