Lack Of Receiver Production
The lack of production from our receivers this year has been a huge disapointment. However, how much of their lack of production is really their fault? Is it because our offense could not get the running game going for much of the season so teams could drop back in coverage? Were they open, but Brunell could just not get them the ball? Or, is it just because they're not as good as we thought they would be and ran bad routes? What does everyone think about this? How much of the blame can actually be placed on the WRs for not producing? Sometimes I feel like it didn't matter who we were throwing the ball to, it still just wasn't going to happen.

Re: Lack Of Receiver Production
It's called lack of overall, consistent offensive production. I don't think there's one area to blame.

Re: Lack Of Receiver Production
I hate to admit it, but Rexi was absolutely 100% right about Lloyd. That skinny, whiny, fugly wideout should be shipped to Iraq with an American flag stapled to his forehead.

I totally disagree with you. I think Lloyd really wants to win and is a team guy. I'm glad he's a Redskin. |
Re: Lack Of Receiver Production
All the dinking and dunking when Burnell played probably hurt the wrs numbers as well.

Re: Lack Of Receiver Production
A little uncalled for.

Re: Lack Of Receiver Production
I think Lloyd will be on the playing field this Sunday.
Now let's take a trip into Nightmare Land...trade Lloyd and Betts for ............Randy Moss! Whoohoo! SooperBoll here we come! |
Re: Lack Of Receiver Production
Mark Brunell did not throw the ball to Lloyd for reasons that have been stated on the board for 2 years. How are you supposed to have production when the ball is not thrown to you? Our offense is not good, therefore most #'s will be down.

Two years. I guess with Lloyd playing for the 49ers last year it would have been very difficult for Brunell to throw him the ball. |
Re: Lack Of Receiver Production
betts is our leading receiver, because of brunell dinking and dunking. and also because of the offensive line not being able to pass block. and some of that falls on saunders, for his play calling. overall lack of steady offensive play

Was the ball not thrown to them cause they were covered or ran bad routes, or because Brunell sucks? |

I'm not willing to go that far (yet!), but whenever I pay attention to Loyd's routes, they look lazy. Maybe that's frustration from not getting the ball your way, but w/JC at the helm he's gotten his no. called & has not stepped up much. His attitude is something to be weary of at this point too, but let's hope that Gibbs straightens him out & gets some production out of him. I was always a little dumbfounded as to why Gibbs & co. went after him. Javon Walker was the best wr available, maybe they tried to get him but couldn't. Gibbs sees something in him, so I'll withold judgement till next year. |
Re: Lack Of Receiver Production
Obviously my little rant about Lloyd was filled with hyperbole.
My only point about Lloyd is that the guy has been paid handsomely, has blown a few big plays, and has yet to payoff. Therefore, when I see him throw hissy fits on the field and start yelling at teammates, I get more than a little pissed. This guy isn't a wideout of T.O.'s caliber and he has no business whatsoever acting like T.O. now or ever (as he reportedly did in San Fran). After reading the WP article about Lloyd and the fact that Gibbs might suspend him, I'm become a Lloyd-hater through and through. If Gibbs is even mentioning player character issues in public, you know the guy has acted like a serious jackass. And then to hear that Lloyd has been causing locker room problems all year......enough. I've always been a big proponent of Gibbs' philosophy of getting character guys. I therefore get really, really irked when I hear about a player causing problems for team chemistry. Showing emotion on the field or getting upset about a loss is one thing, causing problems for team chemistry in the locker room or elsewhere is a totally different animal. Perhaps I will be proven wrong and perhaps Lloyd is a good guy who is not causing problems, but at this point it doesn't look good. |
Re: Lack Of Receiver Production
Speaking of receivers, what exactly does David Patten do for this team?

He's filling up a slot on the inactive list nicely. |

It would have been difficult for Brunell to throw him the ball if Lloyd were 6 yards away... |

Absolutely nothing, and I said before the 53 man roster was set that he should have been released to make way for a younger player, less expensive, and more serviceable. He dosen't play teams, and he's not going to give you the production that warrants his salry. He's had one #1 reception this year, and he claims he's hurt again. A total waste of a roster spot. |

Whoooaaa.... I don't think he has been that bad. Our offense (and playcalling) has been way out of sync this year....so Loyd hasn't really had an opportunities (until now) to get himself into the game. I think he can still be a star for us. Certainly time will tell, but he's obviously doing more for us than David Patten or, gulp, Taylor Jacobs did. |

I wrote my 1st post in this thread (the one you quoted) just after reading the WP article about Lloyd. Needless to say, I was 100% pissed after reading that Lloyd has been causing problems in the locker room. Please see my second post in this thread (the last one on the first page of the thread). I am still very pissed at Lloyd right now, but I articulated my thoughts/feelings a little better in my second post. |

Easy slugger.... You could have just said he's bad. No need to invoke the war my man. As far as his production goes, I think Lloyd isn't deserving of any scape-goat mentality as of yet. Our offense all shares the blame. Why not scream at ARE. Why not hate on Chris Cooley for his game on sunday? Lloyd isn't worth the money, but he's probably accurately labled the #2 receiver on the team. Quick question to the board. Do you think James Thrash has been working extra with Campbell during the season? Has he been doing after practice work-outs, 2nd team stuff, etc... Seems like they're on the same page. Edit: There is no excuse for his behavior, however. He should stop the bitching, and control his emotions. That's out of character for this team, and I'm sure Gibbs will get that point across. If not, then he's gone. |

Re: Lack Of Receiver Production
I dont think loyd is bad at all he has made some good catches this year when the ball has been thrown his way and hes made some mistakes but havent they all?

It's all good, just kinda shocked me. I guess that's sort of the point of a hyperbole though. I'm kinda slow on those things. |

I'm kinda slow on those things.
Given the seriousness of the Iraq situation, I should have avoided it. Again, I apologize to anyone who was offended and certainly understand how it was inappropriate to reference Iraq. I was not trying to make any political statement. I simply made a dumb, off-the-cuff remark. The bottom line, for me, is that he is no Portis, Moss, Cooley or some stud player who has any right to whine about the rest of the team. Can he be pissed about things he can control (i.e. his hands and routes)? Yes. Can he get upset and angry when we lose? Yes. But he has no right to cause locker room problems, especially when you consider what we're paying him. Sorry, I'll stop whining about Lloyd now. |
Re: Lack Of Receiver Production
I'm not sold on Lloyd, and this stuff about his attitude is wack.
But why isn't ARE getting the ball? Is he not getting open? Is he not getting really used as the third WR? I would have expected more there--he's got great open field moves, he's a good team guy, etc. He's been invisible except on punt returns. What's the deal? |
Re: Lack Of Receiver Production
The FO knew about LLoyd's issues and they chose to ignore it. So now they are just going to have to deal with it. They are stuck with him.

Re: Lack Of Receiver Production
Thrash has been undervalued as a receiver. I remember (over the course of the years) that he's gotten the ball many times when the QB is under pressure, probably because he seems to adjust very well to how a play develops. While he makes (almost) no highlight-reel catches, he makes catches that continue drives and makes almost no mental mistakes. (e.g. he doesn't position himself just short of the 1st down marker.) I think his loss at the end of last year hurt us more than most people realize.
(I am trying to explain why JC might naturally have a rapport with Thrash; I confess, however, that I cannot answer the question. Just showing I like the player.)
...Quick question to the board. Do you think James Thrash has been working extra with Campbell during the season? Thrash is a possession guy, rarely drops anything & plays special teams. If the cap & $ were not an issue, I would agree if the coaches cut Loyd & kept Thrash, he's earned his spot. |

I always wondered why we only run the bubble screen to Moss & not ARE. Hopefully, with a qb that can, or should I say will, scramble, ARE is a guy that can break off a route & come back to get open & JC will hit him w/some big plays. |
Re: Lack Of Receiver Production
We have too many small receivers, we need a big possession receiver to bail out campbell once in a while like cooley does. A bigger target for the rookie qb would be nice. Our pass offense often requires too much precision and timing for a young qb to handle.
