Do you want the Redskins to win?
 

Do you want the Redskins to win or lose? And if you are on the fence, say how much they have to win for you to want them to win (and they can't get farther than the 2nd round of the playoffs). Honestly, I don't want the Skins to go to the playoffs at all. I've basically given up on this year, I'm just not feelin the Skins this year, even if they make the playoffs, its like so what, we suck, this isn't going anywhere. I'd perfer us to get the best draft picks we can get so we have hope next year. BTW, I'm a skins fan till death, If they lose every game for the next 50 years, 51 years from now I'll be cheering them on untill it seems like they're done, like it is this season.

Ok I'll go with it sense I'm waiting on a customer who was supose to be here 10 min ago. I say we split our last four games and we still get a decent draft pick.

Of course when you watch the game you get excited when they do well and mad when they dont, but I meant after the season is over, would you have wanted the redskins to have lost these last four games or won some and not have finished strong. (Ignoor what I said earlier about the playoffs, this is assuming we dont make the playoffs)

i want the redskins to win, who does not want to see campbell progress and give us something to look forward to next season. i want to see our future quarterback improve and look good, instead of getting a high pick in the draft and waste it on a bust.

I always want them to win. That said though, I think one of the more frustrating things about this season is that we are just a win or two from being in the thick of the playoff race. It almost would be an easier pill to swallow if we were abysmally bad, like the Lions or Raiders.

Yeah, when you have the 'tweener record we have it's a weird feeling... not good enough for the playoffs, not abysmal enough for a top pick. There's no way for me to root against my team during the game, though... it's just against my nature to do so.

If we went on the road would we be favored to beat Oak or Det? Probably not. We are no better than either of those teams. Ok maybe a little bit better. But not by much.

wow. I don't even know what to say. Clearly a lesson in being a fan needs to be taught here. You never, under any circumstances, want your team to lose. Forget draft position. Do you think the Redskins actually care about the draft? Exactly. I want the Redskins to win every game from here on out by at least 20 points. I would love nothing better then to end this season on a high note. It's not about draft position or planning for the future. It's about pride. It's about bragging rights.

Do you have any pride in your team when they are 4-8? We have nothing to brag about here, and draft position means alot for our future pride.

Yes, I have pride. A lot of pride actually. Nothing to brag about? We had some pretty incredible wins against Jacksonville and Dallas (ANY win against Dallas in the season is a cause for pride), hell, we even set an NFL passing completion record. I don't care about the draft, you don't [I]win[/I] the draft with a blocked FG by Troy Vincent.

I think you need to take a good look at what kind of fan you are. I'm sure there are a bunch of bandwagons you can jump on. I will never root against the Skins.

Next year when the Skins pick a stud with our high draft pick, or make a real good trade, you all are gonna be like, "yea I'm so happy we did this", but you all are gonna forget about the pointless games that we lost at the end of the season because those dont matter anymore. Our future is potentially decided by who we get in the draft, and nothing comes from pointless games.

so basically tank the season for an unproven rookie? top picks can be busts just as easily as superstars... how can you actually root for a loss during a game? do you cheer the other team on every sunday?

Are we only supposed to have pride in our team when they are winning? To me, that seems quite fair weathered don't you think? I'm not calling you a fair weather fan and hope you don't take it as such. It is an honest question. I do understand what you are saying, but having pride in your favorite team goes deeper than their record sometimes. We all definitely want our team to win --- I hate watching my team lose, but we got into a tough position this year.

We have to stay the course (no I'm not getting this from President Bush) and work through our troubles. I believe that is how our Redskins grow as a team and becomes stronger. People nowadays want to be entertained and want their money's worth so bad, that they become quite impatient with the process. People expect results now, but it doesn't always happen that way. I've also heard it say, "well in today's NFL, results have to happen now!" Maybe that is true with some NFL owners, but alot of those owners who have been impatient (Dan Snyder in 2000 for example) have not been very successful.

While I will agree that I think we do need a good GM to help with personnel, I don't agree that we should blow this team up after three seasons, because someone decides that 3 is the magic number. Who the heck came up with that? Not that I want the process to take very long, but let's remember that good ol' Norv Turner finally got this team going in the right direction some 5 or 6 seasons after he was first hired to coach the skins. I still believe to this day that if Snyder would've kept that team together AND coaching staff, it would've progressed even further.

My point is, let us be patient. I do tend to have more patiences with a former HOF Redskins head coach than I probably would any other coach, but when it comes down to it, it's football and this guy knows how to coach to win. Give him just a little more time.

Read my 2nd post, and top picks can be busts, 7th rounders can be superstars, but odds are the higher the pick, the higher the possibility of that unproven rookie being a superstar.

There's no such thing as a pointless game, every game has meaning. If, or when this team takes the attitude that the games don't mean anything, or are pointless, and we can lose to gain draft leverage, that's the day I will no longer continue to support them.

Let us not forget that the older players we got (Ernest Byner, George Rogers) can sometime be the superstars that we need to fill the gaps.

Way better than the difference between the 7th pick and the 14th pick.

It is crazy Matty, but you know better than I do, there is always a handful of people towards the end of each losing season who want to lose out to get a high draft pick. It really is silly.

People do not realize that players are being constantly looked at not only for maintaining their job, but for players like Betts, gaining value for potential trades.

I think the guy is asking a reasonable question in a calm manner.

If I understand it, he wants to win emotionally and cheers for the 'Skins, especially on game day, and he doesn't want them to "tank". He doesn't care about the playoffs because he feels we are not good enough this year to do anything meaningful if we got there.

Here's a related question:
If you could choose one of the following, which would it be?
1) The Redskins win the remaining games while playing badly, but winning because the other team was worse. (penalties, interceptions, bad calls, etc.)
2) The Redskins lose the remaining games while playing very well. (Campbell on the money, good D, etc, but the opposing team has "career" days, like when a basketball team shoots over 70% for a game.)

The first scenario puts more importance on the record this year. The second puts more emphasis on the possibilities for next year.

To revert to the question which originated this thread, I believe what he is trying to ask is:
If we were to look only at our final record (ignoring the emotional impact of winning or losing on game day) what would you prefer?
1) Finishing 8-8 (no playoffs)
2) Finishing 4-12
In the first scenario we have a better record this year, but next year we get a (much) worse draft pick (after an exchange with Denver.)
In the second we have a more embarrassing record, but we would get a very high draft pick (and probably too high to have to exchange with Denver.)

So I think he is asking which is more important to us: a better record this year (when we aren't going anywhere) or a better draft pick next year. A corresponding personnel question would be:
If we had a backup who is currently worse than our starter but could become better than our starter with some starts under his belt, should we keep playing the current starter to have a better record this year, or should we start the backup so we're better next year?
This is a reasonable question, and I think our coaching staff has shown its decision.
