Jason Campbell's performance today
I thought he played like absolute shit today, so many times he had recievers wide open and missed them by a long shot, I can remember 6 of these instances, maybe there were more. If we lost, all you guys would be all over him, but the fact is we only scored 16 points with Betts having over 150 rushing/screen pass yards.
|
Re: Jc
Actually I thought he played very well and he looks like he's getting more and more comfortable in the offense. On the road making just his 5th start, I'm not sure what else we could have asked from him.
In the future try to be a little more descriptive with your thread titles. 'Jc' and 'Grrrrrr' are lacking a bit. |
Re: Jason Campbell's performance today
I agree with Mathias. JC looked pretty darn good. He had some accuracy issues but I am more concerned with his composure and ability to run the offense right now. He was basically lights out on both accounts.
|
Re: Jason Campbell's performance today
He did not perform like a pro bowl QB and missed some throws, but I love what he is bringing to the table. Stepping up in the pocket, the deep ball, ability to scramble and keep a play alive and give the recievers a chance instead of just throwing it away.
Accuracy has been a issue, but again today he made some good throws that connected, but also made some great throws that were not his fault that fell. The ball lost in the lights to Lloyd that would have been a big gain. Cooley dropped one that hit him in the chest that would have been another big pick up. No turnovers. The skipping passes are the biggest concern, I'm not sure if this is a technique issue or a situational issue during games that is causing him to skip the ball. |
Re: Jason Campbell's performance today
I think Campbell has the secondary on the opposing team running all over the place and I love it. He had a stretch of inaccuracy, but overall I don't see how you can't be impressed with him. Yeah he needs some work, but he is starting to look like he is the real deal to me. You can't deny that his TD pass wasn't absolutely beautiful. He certainly wasn't piss poor.
|
Re: Jason Campbell's performance today
I'd even go as far to say that today was the best game he's played so far.
|
Re: Jason Campbell's performance today
Campbell had some miss fires today, but he also had some great passes. How bout the TD toss to Moss? That was beautiful. He coulda had another one to Lloyd, but TO junior couldn't find the ball. I don't understand how anyone can complain about his performance today, he made enough big plays to make up for some of his sloppy passes. Let's not forget how young he is.
|
Re: Jason Campbell's performance today
The TD to Moss was a thing of beauty, right on target. I have a feeling we're going to see a lot of that next year.

LOL! I've noticed all the lazy titles and mistakes on the threads today. The mods are having to work today. |
Re: Jason Campbell's performance today
I think the ball he threw to Lloyd was beautiful, but Lloyd couldn't locate the ball and adjust. That would have added another 50+ yds to his total. JC played mistake free football today and managed the game well. I don't think he played anywhere close to shit, nor do I think he played anywhere near as good as his upside.
|
Re: Jason Campbell's performance today
JC played reasonably well. i say the MVP though is the defense... maybe even c. rogers.
|
Re: Jason Campbell's performance today
Better then i expected and yes that TD to Moss was a thing of Beauty
|
Re: Jason Campbell's performance today
he hasnrt even played a handful of games yet. if we did lose i wouldnt be all over him our year is already over. he makes our offense better how many times did the skins try the deep ball at least 5 or 6 times. he still needs to work on his touch passes but he has two more games and all offseason to be ready for next year. he is our future has a strong arm and is atheltic so his upside is good.
|
Re: Jason Campbell's performance today
Honestly he's what i expected so far. If you were looking for a polished qb who didn't make mistakes you came to the wrong team. I don't think anyone here should be suprised at his play. I think he is progressing though.

That's a footwork issue that Saunders and Lazar should be able to correct. One play that concerned me was the WR screen he threw to Moss. Campbell's windup delivery got the ball to Moss a beat later than Brunell would have, allowing the defender to get all over Santana as soon as the catch was made. Saunders should scrap that play until he tightens up Campbell's delivery. |

Who the hell is Mathias? |
Re: Jason Campbell's performance today
He's only 24 years old, and making just his fifth start, he's not going to look like Peyton Manning just yet. Just like with the rest of the team, have some patience. I think Campbell actually looks pretty good, and is gaining confidence, I love his rocket arm!

Yeah, his delivery has some minor issues that I'm sure they coaches will continue to work on in the offseason. I suspect that they aren't really trying to address "tecnique" issues in the middle of the season, rather choosing to focus on the game plan and making sure Campbell is mentally prepared to play. With another offseason to work with knowing he's the starter I'm sure they will work with him to keep the ball off his hip and fire from his shoulder. Regarding the skipped balls, it isn't perfect but I'll take it over sailing balls high any day. He reminds me a lot of McNabb from that respect. DMac will skip balls low when he is off. Personally, I think Campbell is coming along slowly but surely. Don't underestimate playing experience as a teaching tool. Look at Alex Smith in SF. He's still not great but his comp % is up from 50% last year to low 60's this year. It just takes time. |
Re: Jason Campbell's performance today
I do think that he played good today, yeah he missed some throws but that will happen. A QB in the NFL will not make every throw during the game, all QB's admit that they have thrown balls that they would like to have back.
I love the idea of JC saying that he plans on training with Moss in the offseason. To me that is GREAT news!!!! Hopefully next year those two will have an awsome year.... |

Try making a thread where every single person doesn't disagree with you, okay? |
Re: Jason Campbell's performance today
he had a solid outing. only thing lacking was the accuracy on some of the shorter passes where he grounded them, but that can be fixed. he is improving

im very excited to see what the future holds for us!! i think well be alright with this kid..i really do!
|
Re: Jason Campbell's performance today
For every one he over threw - there was one that hit the reciver in the hands (moss in double coverage - not saying Moss should have caught it, but it was great throw) , chest (Cooley across the middle of the field - he should have caught it), and LLoyd couldn't adjust to a perfectly thrown ball for a TD.
I thought JC was pretty good today |
Re: Jason Campbell's performance today
I love this guy, he's gonna be our next franchise qb. It's been so long that we've had a qb we could count on for the indefinite future.
Sure he missed some throws, but I love the way he gives his recievers a chance to make plays. Moss almost got that one on the sideline in between 2 db's. |
Re: Jason Campbell's performance today
He had a pretty good day. Missed a few that he should have had. We didn't really give him many shots in the red zone. I thought he looked good.
|
Re: Jason Campbell's performance today
The misses are a concern, especially the high one (coughRypiencough), but it's not anything that can't be solved during the offseason.
The TD pass to Moss was a thing of beauty. And during one of the drives, he was hitting guys in stride, and moving the offense along. If these are signs of things to come, this team is headed in the right direction. |
Re: Jason Campbell's performance today
He was OK today but I have some concerns 1. He drops back like he is on Madden. He drops ten yards to throw it five. As he ages his arm strenght will not be able to get him through. 2. He needs to put some touch on the ball and don't gun it everywhere.

What are you expecting? Peyton Manning? Your looking at a 1st year starter in his 6th offense in 6 years. Yes he missed some open wr's but he also hit some too. He made some really nice downfield passes to Cooley and Moss. 13 competions for 202 yards is good. If that was Brunell 13 comps. would have been 80 yards. Can you AT LEAST see now that the offense is being opened up a little more? That the field is being stretched which helps the running game? When Brunell was the QB the othr teams were just daring us to throw it, stacking the line. Now with JC teams are starting to respect our passing game. BE PATIENT! |

Betts only had about 120 yards. Secondly, what do you want from the kid. No turnovers. yeah he missed a few throws, but who doesn't. He made some very nice throws. Even freaking Joe Montana over threw some guys. I think you may be giving the guy a little to much crap. Ease up. |

I can not believe some of crap I am hearing from people. some concerns, the kid has played 5 games. Against some of the best D's in the nfl. two quality wins against Carolina (when they were in the playoff hunt) and on the road in New Orleans. take away a couple of fluke plays (Tampa and Philly) and the kid is 4-1 and we are in the hunt. As he ages, jesus man he has been in the league for 2 years!! Has Farve lost any zip on his ball?? NO. anyway, like I said he is what 24, he isn't 44! give it a rest. |

I agree with you. It's BS if you ask me. Some of the fans on this site really don't understand football if they have issues w/ JC. |

LOL the countdown has begun with Campbell. That didn't take long huh? |
Re: Jason Campbell's performance today
Maybe this thread is a blessing in disguise, rather than a bunch of piling on comments that JC sucks, people instead have come to his defense!
We have hope for the future! |

are you trying to say people around here will be calling for collins? |
Re: Jason Campbell's performance today
From what I've seen, Campbell's got that "it." I love his cool demeanor, not to up not to down (kinda reminds you of a certain hall of fame coach), and his rocket arm, I think if continues to improve we've got us a franchise QB. Very bright future, I say!

I think 90% of people on this board thought he performed pretty well. It is alright to critique his play. I thought he missed alot of easy things but i thought he played well. Like you said he's only played 5 games. As for arm strength, as someone mentioned, i think is overrated (i.e. Joe Montana, T. Green, many others). So, i think most think he played very well. |
Re: Jason Campbell's performance today
Aight, everyone is jumping all over this, so I'll clarify what I meant. I never said that Campbell is not the future, I never said bring in Collins, I never said I think he is bad, all I said is I thought he had his worst game this season. There were lots of things in this game that showed that he has alot of promise, ie his pass selection, calmness, mobility, poise, but when he misses 6 wide open recievers, I think that is terrible. Once he gets his accuracy down, he'll be a stud, but 6 easy misses is ridiculous.
|
Re: Jason Campbell's performance today
There are quite a few starting QBs that do that fairly often. No one is perfect, save for Peyton.
