Can we vote Madden off the Planet?
Or even better, declare him senile and off the air? I mean here is his take on a field goal that hits the upright in the Chiefs and Chargers game. WTF?

Re: Can we vote Madden off the Planet?
I've heard him ask Al Michaels "Ever carve a pumpkin?" Al responds, "All the time."
|
Re: Can we vote Madden off the Planet?
He is better than 95% of the dopes calling games. At least he has a personality. Annoying at times, yes, but most of the former players are just horrendous.
|
Re: Can we vote Madden off the Planet?
I love ole Madden. I miss him calling games with Pat Summerall though, those were the days. His rambling comments are classic, just wish that some of those idiot analyst on FOX would stop trying to emulate him all the time.
|
Re: Can we vote Madden off the Planet?
His comments make me luagh so therefor he must stay
|
Re: Can we vote Madden off the Planet?
Yeah, let's vote out the best football announcer in history. Why don't we put Sam Huff in the booth. That would be great.

Re: Can we vote Madden off the Planet?
90% of the stuff he says is half stupid

Believe it or not, he actually entertains the audience. The guy knows so much about football that he could lose 99% of the audience with one sentence. Guess what, that wouldn't make a good broadcast. The guy is the #1 ambassador of the NFL and he is the voice of the glory days. When I think of Madden, I think of January playoff victories in RFK. I guess you guys would rather hear Larry Michael or Aikman. |
Re: Can we vote Madden off the Planet?
Aikman actually isnt that bad, and he knows what he is talking about. Maybe Madden is a great personality, but that is not what I want during a game. I want to hear in-depth analysis not personality. Another reason why I also hate TK on MNF.

Aikman is a Cowboy. If we are in a playoff game in January, I don't want to hear the game from a Cowboy. Aikman is the best color guy in my opinion but I would still take Madden over him. |

Well in my opinion I would rather have a Cowboy, who actually gives a quality game, rather than Madden who seems to be concerned about food and Farve. Aikman does a very good job of being unbias during Redskins games. If I wanna hear opinionated coverage of the Skins I'll just listen to the radio coverage of the game. |
Re: Can we vote Madden off the Planet?
Most of the time the announcers are wrong with thteir analysis of the game anyways so who gives a flying.
Madden is usually right and his stupid coments make me laugh |

Aikman is in my top 3 color commentators/analyst and the funny thing is he's new to the TV game. He is very knowledgeable and object. I love it when he announces our games and I personally don't care if he was a Cowboy. |

Agreed 100%. He is completley unbiased and I think he's the best voice on the TV Today. |
Re: Can we vote Madden off the Planet?
There's another Cowboy who does pretty decent color commentary, and that's Moose Johnston. He and Aikman must have gone to the same broadcasting school...
I don't care for Madden much, but I wouldn't vote him off the planet. Now Brian Baldinger, that's a horse of a different color (shit colored). |
Re: Can we vote Madden off the Planet?
I'm okay with Madden. I've gotten to the point where I can tune him out if he starts to ramble. He still offers a lot of knowledge though. I've learned more from him all these years than any other announcer when it comes to football, not the facts of life though. He totally confused me on THAT!

There should be a clear distinction between Madden now, and Madden years ago. Because at this point I think he needs to retire...hes entertaining, but down right annoying as well. Two things ive heard him say this year, first, after the Portis injury he says.. "Theres two things that could have happened to his shoulder, a seperation, which is when the shoulder seperates, or a dislocation, thats when teh should get dislocated"....he pretty much should costar on a medical tv drama and I hate when he says lines like, "The coach had two choices on that play, he could call a run, or he could call a pass".... |
Re: Can we vote Madden off the Planet?
I am pro-Madden. He at least gets most of the important stuff right, and his goofy rambling is better than the shrill nonesense we get from most NFL color commentators these days.
Aikman and Buck are probably the best, these days--people forget that the real play-by-play pros like Michaels and Buck set up their color guys well. But, if it isn't Aikman and Buck, and Moose (if you like him) and maybe Simms, who would you like over Madden and Michaels? So Madden isn't the best anymore--he's still better than most. |
Re: Can we vote Madden off the Planet?
I really like the Madden/Michaels team.
Overall NBC's coverage is much better than ESPN when it comes to providing a high quality football broadcast. It's funny, ESPN used to provide the best game coverage, now they've gone Hollywood and provide more entertainment than quality football coverage. I'm tired of the booth interviews with celebs, the stupid emails that Tony takes, etc. Not the quality coverage that we've come to expect from the "Worldwide Leader". |
Re: Can we vote Madden off the Planet?
I agree--ESPN is a circus--sometimes they seem to forget there is a game on.

Well played, sir. :biggthump I love Madden. Although, I can totally understand why people don't. What's funny is that it's usually the same reason. The quote that Saden posted is a good example of why I like him, and also why people don't. He reminds me of Howard Stern in that regard. On another note, I would have to say that nobody provides the level of insight that Madden does. |
Re: Can we vote Madden off the Planet?
Madden is no better or worse than the others. Aikman is a absolute moron who doesn't even understand the rules of the game - and proves it each week. The worst in the NFL though, is without question, the MNF crew and NFL Net crews. They are absolutely God-Awful.

So it sounds like you hate everyone, are there any announcers you like? Agreed about NFL Network, but as much as I hate to say it, I thought the booth was better when Deion and Faulk were in it last week. What happened to Vermeil? Did his voice kick the bucket that night?? |
Re: Can we vote Madden off the Planet?
Man, I sure do miss that Madden-Summerall combo!
|
Re: Can we vote Madden off the Planet?
I vote to KEEP him...he's great for laughs and entertainment during bad games.
Besides, I don't want to risk losing the EA Sports game that comes out every year. :) |

they were good because summerall was drunk half of the time |
Re: Can we vote Madden off the Planet?
Madden has some funny habits but a lot of times he has some very insightful comments on the game of football.
He's entertaining and a football icon, going to be strange when he's gone. Madden on Letterman |
Re: Can we vote Madden off the Planet?
Madden is the best announcer I've seen in my lifetime. He revolutionized the position and even got a major video game named after him. Who would have thought the top selling NFL game would be named for an ANNOUNCER??? Yes he rambles a little more these days but he knows his football and I still like listening to him.
Aikman is by far the best of the new crop, despite being a Cowboy. He is very professional and always fair to the Skins. Plus every time he did Skins games they would replay Lavar's hit on him, it must have driven him nuts. Despite being 10 times the football player Lavar is/was Aikman always handled it with class. |

Miss ole Summerall doing The Masters too, with Ken Venturi. |
