Any "Day After" Regrets for Beating Saints?
It was great seeing the Skins play well yesterday, but I'm kind of sad the Skins didn't pull their usual "blow it in the last second" routine.
Why? The fact that we helped the Cowboys makes me feel sick inside. Even when we win, we lose. Lets face it, the Skins played really well, but they were ultimately a trap game for the Saints. |
Re: Any "Day After" Regrets for Beating Saints?
dont worry about the cowboys, its all about the redskins right now
|
Re: Any "Day After" Regrets for Beating Saints?
There should be no regrets after a win. It just sucks that it's come down to a win over the New Orleans Saints being considered an "upset"
|
Re: Any "Day After" Regrets for Beating Saints?
OK, here's a question: As a fan, would you rather see your team win meaningless games to end a season in which there's no chance of the playoffs, or lose and secure a higher draft pick?
Look at it like this -- Would you rather be able to pick someone like Sean Taylor at #5? Or finish with you head held high and get someone like Rod Gardner at #15? |

If the Redskins had lost their remaining games would the pressure from outside sources including media be much more intense and therefore change the mindset of the team and encourage them to bring in a GM? |

And the year we got Rogers 9th...we passed on Shawne Merriman & Demarcus Ware to take him. The skins will have a good pick even at 7-9 it just depends on whether or not they get the right player. |
Re: Any "Day After" Regrets for Beating Saints?
What is it with people around here being upset with actually winning? I for one would have been pissed if we lost that game, I dont care who it helped. It was a Redskins win, so it helps the Redskins.

Re: Any "Day After" Regrets for Beating Saints?
Here's another thing to consider: Does eeking out a 7-9 record cause some players to have a "hey, everything's cool" mentality?
Or would it be better for them to sit and stew on a 4-12 record for eight months? In the interest of the long term picture, of course. |
Re: Any "Day After" Regrets for Beating Saints?
I regret one thing, not recording the game (again).

I've seen plently of bust over the years in the top 5 of the draft, and I've seen same great players come out of the 15-20 spots. |
Re: Any "Day After" Regrets for Beating Saints?
The goal is to win every game, no matter what the circumstances.
Everything else such as draft position, team morale, etc., is just crap for us fans to pick apart and over-analyze during the offseason. |
Re: Any "Day After" Regrets for Beating Saints?
The perennial playoff teams seem to do just fine with the position they are given. Actually an argument can be made comparing the top ten teams versus the bottom ten teams over the course of, say, ten years. I've never looked into it but I would be willing to bet the teams that draft later in the first round have a better overall record than the teams that regularly draft in the first ten spots.
I can think of one team that is doing something with their early round draft picks: the Bengals, maybe the 49er's but this is their first year of achieving a modicum of success, as it relates to wins and losses, with their draft picks in quite a while. |

Re: Any "Day After" Regrets for Beating Saints?
What is with some people's hardon for a GM? One more person making decisions and steering this team in a different direction makes no sense to me. We already have enough cooks in the kitchen.

i agree with you. i think the way it is now, with gibbs, vinny and snyder's money is fine. they've made some bad choices, some (verdict still out) choices and some great choices. |

That being said you play to win with a rook for a QB to build confidence lets not worry about a draft pick at this moment becuase they will just ride th epine anyways |
Re: Any "Day After" Regrets for Beating Saints?
If you pull for them to lose you aren't a fan.
This is what happens when kids don't get to play dodgeball. |
Re: Any "Day After" Regrets for Beating Saints?
As much as I wanted us to get Gaines Adams, I would still take a win over a loss, look at Detroit, how many times have they secured there high draft position? And dont worry about high draft picks, we will be able to get Pat Willis or Paul Posluzny in the teens any ways, its a great year for us in the draft beings that we need defensive help

Me too I was thinking that last night! |

i would never want the skins to lose. we can bitch and moan and over analyze all thats happened this season in the off season. now lets just cheer for as many wins as possible
Reading comprehension isn't one of your strengths is it? If you would have read more carefully, you'll see that I'm simply asking a question. I have not "bitched" after the win over the Saints in any of these posts. While this losing season has brought out negativity from me, and certainly others, it might brighten your day to know that despite this pathetic peformance from our team in 2006, I actually see signs of improvement from the offense. In fact, in another thread I stated that by next year, the offense should really be clicking. There. Feel better now? |

You habe to be kidding right? The current front office setup is one of the worst in football according to many GM's around the league (See Wilbon Article). As Wilbon wrote you can't win in this league with a coach/GM as Gibbs is now because he can't devote the necessary time to do the GM job correctly. He did well in Gibbs I because he devoted all his time to coaching. My idea of adding a GM is not to have another cook in the kitchen but to have an experienced, professional front office person making the right decisions so the Redskins stop getting fleeced with giving up their draft picks. Look at Holmgren in Seattle - he is a great coach but when he was also the GM when he first took the job the Seahawks were terrible. You can look at the Redskins and say the same thing here. And Vinny Cerrato - I think the majority of posters on this board would disagree with your viewpoint that he is a good player personnel director. |
Re: Any "Day After" Regrets for Beating Saints?
I think it's important they keep winning so that it build's JC's confidence going into next season. I think that is way more important than getting a little bit higher draft pick.

good point, and if we keep winning it shows JC that the vets haven't given up, very important for off season morale. These guys do have to work together in the spring. |

This thread title makes me think of a question a Roman soldier stationed in Ireland might ask his campfire buddies.

sorry if this offends anyone, but the subject of regrets after winning, and tanking the season for a higher draft pick has been debated and discussed to death. Does this mean after the Rams game, when we beat their collective asses in, we're going to get the same damn threads about draft picks?!?!? /rant /soapbox |
Re: Any "Day After" Regrets for Beating Saints?
I regret not beating the Saints 74-0, so we could lose that record.
I regret that Riggins had to retire I regret spending a top pick on Heath Schuler I regret the shame that Deion brought I regret the Jack Pardee debacle....etc but I will NEVER regret beating the Saints and restoring....some, small modicum of dignity to my beloved Skins |
Re: Any "Day After" Regrets for Beating Saints?
Ok, first its was players suck, then coaches, then Snyder, the front office, the stadium, and now its come to a win sucks. This team needs to finish on a positive note and JC needs to build his confidence which each win gives him.

In the interest of the long term picture, of course.
I am sure they would sit and stew on a 7-9 record just as they would sit and stew on a 4-12 record. A losing season is a losing season is a losing season, especially when they had the aspirations that they had at the beginning of the season. This is nonsense talking about, "are you regretting that we won"! What is that $#!+? Whether we get a #5 pick or a #25 pick, be happy that we will have a first rounder. The key is picking someone who will have an impact and in a hurry. It is usually a crap shoot, so I think playing for picks right now is ludicrous. I think it shows a lot of character if we win out, after all the only thing we're playing for now is pride. It would be great to be a spoiler for the NYG wouldn't it? |

Exactly. As a whole the team is playing much better and it's nice for them to be rewarded with a strong win against a top team |
Re: Any "Day After" Regrets for Beating Saints?
Its better to know you can do it, and didn't, rather than you can't do it!
|
Re: Any "Day After" Regrets for Beating Saints?
I cannot believe we have an entire thread devoted to whether we should feel bad after a Skins win.
And I cannot believe I just contributed... |
Re: Any "Day After" Regrets for Beating Saints?
The only time I have regrets is when we lose - SILLY!
|
Re: Any "Day After" Regrets for Beating Saints?
If the Cowboys ride that 2nd seed into the Superbowl, we're ALL gonna feel sick inside! I'm sorry, but no win is worth giving the Cowboys that 2nd seed. That makes me a big New Orleans fan right now.
Well, its all up to the Eagles now... |
Re: Any "Day After" Regrets for Beating Saints?
So you're a Cowboy hater before you're a Skins fan?
|
Re: Any "Day After" Regrets for Beating Saints?
Here is why the Redskins should continue to try and win their remaining games:
1) Pride 2) Build confidence in developing players (Campbell, McIntosh, Fox, Suisham, ...) 3) Develop chemistry on offense and defense 4) Player evaluations and jobs 5) Spoil the playoff aspirations of every team they face. |

Re: Any "Day After" Regrets for Beating Saints?
Hopefully this win allows us to win out and take some momentum into next year...
