Joe Gibbs' Grandson Battling Leukemia

I just heard it on Tony Stewart's Sirius radio show.
I lost my uncle/best friend to that just last month, thoughts and prayers to Joe and his family. Treatments start tomorrow.

p.s. My apologies to the Moderators if I posted this in the wrong thread.

Man, I wonder why he said that. It thought it was supposed to be under wraps.

Definitely wishing him a full and speedy recovery

Re: JD Gibbs has leukemia...

Apparently it is treatable...most likely stage 1 based on how they explained it.

There are different flavors. Some are more or less chronic, but it can be handled, at least to some degree. The other just kills you out right............fast

Wow, another tough one to handle for the Gibbs family this year. Hopefully they caught this early and it will be treatable. Best of luck to JD and the rest of the family fighting through this.

I have not seen this in any DC papers or heard it on any DC news channels. This is the kind of story George Michael would be all over and he hasnt said anything that I have heard. I'm not sure this is true.

We wouldn't be human if we were not sad at the appropriate times and did not mourn our tragic losses...

We would't be "normal" if we did not have life conflicts and disagreements and rivalries.....

Discord is a part of life and dislike it though we may, we accept that it is an often unavoidable, dishearteningly unpalatable, occurrence.

We have lost the lives of Bobby Hamilton and Kathryn Helton. We mourn.

We have learned that Joe Gibbs has a relative battling a form of leukemia and that man will begin treatment as soon as possible. We pray for his recovery.

We have witnessed the unfortunate conflict in the relationship and contract negotiations between Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Teresa Earnhardt. We regret and hope for resolution.

I heard it first on Tony Stewart's radio show on Sirius 128 there will be two more replays this week, one is a half hour spot at 7:00 AM Saturday and the second at is the full show 8:00 PM on Saturday if anyone on the board has Sirius and wishes to confirm. He mentions it right near the beginning of the show...I say again, why would he lie about something like that?

I'm not saying anyone's lying about anything but I just find it very odd that the DC media has not picked up this story. I hope everything works out best for the Gibbs family.

Joe may have asked that it be kept quite, I did noticed right after he mentioned it, that Tony kind-of shut up about it real quick like he'd said something he should not have.

I'll listen to the replay again this weekend and try to clarify if it's JD or his son. If it's JD's son, that would explain why there would be very little publicity regarding the situation as I would imagine that the poor kid is still very young.

Either way its a sh**ty disease and I pray for him and his family.

my senior year of high school,we had a classmate named sherry jarrett that beeen diagionsed with this awful disease.we dedictaed the annual to her,and 2 months after we graduated, this sweet loving honors student passed away!
it still hurts today after 26 years!i hope coach gibbs son beats this thing.they have made huge medical leaps in curing this disease, maybe he'll beat this thing.if the skins do'nt win another game, and his son survives,i could live with that!

yeah I listened to the rebroadcast this weekend and confirmed it is JD's son....even though it is treatable, the treatments are almost as bad as the disease...poor kid. :(

My prayers and best wishes to all who are contending with this horrible disease. I lost a 20-year old nephew to this disease in the fall ... it impacts the whole family.

The family Gibbs certainly have my prayers and moral support in this personal crisis. I hope they know that they are not alone in this battle. We care!

Re: Joe Gibbs' Grandson Battling Leukemia

I know this isn't really important in the grand scheme of things but I think it's an issue nonetheless.

How could this impact Gibbs for this season and beyond?

If this issue takes a turn for the worse I could easily see Gibbs stepping down and who could blame him?

I saw clip of Gibbs on Comcast last night speaking to the fans via internet about the crisis.

He specifically mentioned that football is just a game and that it's third on his list of priorities right now. He said, God first, family second, and then football.

That being said, with the added stress that coaching an NFL team brings year round, I think Gibbs will step back with his wife and re-evaluate everything.

JWsleep 01-24-2007 11:55 AM

Re: Joe Gibbs' Grandson Battling Leukemia

This could certainly push Gibbs to retire from coaching--and I agree, who could blame him.

If they need him to help more at JG Racing, that also might put pressure on him as coach of the skins. We'll see. Prayers and best wishes to the Gibbs family!
