What was up with the Bill Belichick shove?

Belichick apologizes to cameraman for shove - NFL - MSNBC.com

Is it just me or was that incident really bizarre?

BigSKINBauer 01-09-2007 11:41 PM

Re: What was up with the Belichick shove?

I am glad he apologized but that doesn't really cut it. The media brings the sport to the people and the people pay his paycheck. Its not like he is just playing the game and no one is watching.

That was ridiculous.

I actually missed it, and my wife yelled at me to come back in the room saying Belichick shoved a guy. We rewinded the DVR and sure enough I could not beleive my eyes. He clearly dislikes the media. Can't say I blame him too much, but there is no excuse for doing that. He should be fined by the NFL for it.

Re: What was up with the Belichick shove?

there is nothing worse than media, the whole reason they cover thier mouths when they call plays, they have to tell the media to back up 50 times a game, they always want press conferences.

i guess i hate the media more than some other people. but the media does not bring the game to us. we come to the game, the media does not have to be everywhere and do everything. stupid media. im glad the dude got shoved. how many cameras and microphones do they need to shove in his face. "mr. bilicheck, please let me get a photo, do that again, wait, let me get one more shot" shut the **** up!

That was a pretty ignorant statement if you ask me. Its not like they are all from one TV station, its a competitive feild just like anything else in this world, people are competing to be the best, break the stories, get ratings and make money.

Re: What was up with the Belichick shove?

I would love it if that cameraman were to slap a lawsuit on that cutoff sweatshirt wearing assclown. Belichick looked like a drunk at a bar trying to start a fight with a bouncer.

Re: What was up with the Belichick shove?

A thread on Belicheck pushing a cameraman? Apparently we're hurting for something to talk about. I don't have a problem with it really. They have a tendency to invade a person's space, and I'm sure it gets overly annoying at times. All he wanted to do was get to Mangini and shake his hand/give him a hug or whatever, and the cameraman was impeding his way. Big deal. It's not like he pulled a Kenny Rogers on the dude.

DrFaust 01-10-2007 08:35 AM

Re: What was up with the Belichick shove?

I was laughing my ass off, when Belichick did that. I don't know why, but I thought it was hilarious! Totally unprofessional, but hilarious nonetheless.

However, I absolutely did not like when Kenny Rodgers harrassed that cameraman last year in MLB.

Re: What was up with the Belichick shove?

I did not see the incident, but the media worldwide is generally, if not totally stepping over any line of good taste, judgement with regard to what they say and do trying to get a story. Hard to feel very sympathetic. I can't really see Belichick in a Mike Tyson sort of brawl

Re: What was up with the Belichick shove?

There was just no reason for him to grab the guy and shove him out of the way like that. You would have thought Mangini was his long lost lover the way he fought to get to him. Pretty ridiculous.

firstdown 01-10-2007 10:01 AM

Re: What was up with the Belichick shove?

Whats the big deal? He was trying to finish up the game by going out and shaking hands with the other coach and the media would not allow him to get to the other coach. The field is for the players not the media and they where in the way so in the heat of the moment he pushed aside one in the media. Its not like he pushed him down or tried to hurt him. He just wanted to shake hands and be done with it and the media was in the way.

Maybe you're on to something Matty.

Really though, it may have been a tad bit excessive, but still not news worthy.

Did he really need to grab the guy and shove him aside like that though??

A little uncalled for don't you think?

After a game the field is open for the media.

It's news worthy enough to be on the main headlines of the ESPN NFL page.

Well, every time I turn on my tv, I have Joan and Melissa braying about some meaningless swill. I would not consider that especially news worthy. After viewing the.....assault..........it looked pretty weak to me???? I guess we have to wait for the suit to be filed to get all the details. The again, maybe I will hear it all from Joan?

Re: What was up with the Belichick shove?

ESPN said that the reporter tried to downplay the incident. You have to know Belichick doesn't care, and the reporter doesn't care -- so who does? It seems like somebody is making a story out of nothing.

Re: What was up with the Belichick shove?

Maybe something should be made of it. Why is it ok to shove someone? I think if it was me and I was just doing my job, I would have turned around and tried to trip him on the way back.
What makes Belichick and the Patriots so damn special that they can do whatever they want with no repercussions?

If someone shoved me out of the way like that they better have a damn good reason, and it better not be because they were trying to hug their ex-ball boy

Belichick is lucky the guy didn't file an assault charge on him -- he could have hit a small lottery with Bill's money.

I think we as a society have become WAY to sensitive. We look for things to offend us, insult us, faux disrespect us. Then we throw down with atty's if there might be some loot involved to help sooth our wounds.
Dude pushes me like that:

A. sorry chief,
..............no worries, end of story

Just another shining example of how classless Belichick is, I mean he's a great coach, but he has nearly zero class. Even though Joe Gibbs and the boys had a horrible season, you can never say that he didn't handle it with class. Belichick should took a que from coaches like Gibbs and Tony Dungy on how to be a great coach yet still have class.

Read that article TAFKAS posted and see what you think. Also, he isn't very gracious in defeat either. I don't know if you had a chance to watch his post game press conference after they lost to Denver in the playoffs last year, but he came off as a total jerk. All that being said though, he is a brilliant football mind, and what he's done with the Patriots during the salary cap era, winning three superbowls, is nothing short of amazing. I think that the Patriots organization would be a great one for the Skins to model after.

So we would rather have a well mannered, gracious, nice coach, etc... under 50% record or a guy who's kind of a jerk with three SB's and a winning record?

We seem to have the best of both worlds, a winner and a gracious coach. Now I know he didn't do to so good this year, but he has years of success that heavily outweigh this one. Only three losing seasons in fifteen years is pretty good if you ask me. Like Belichick he has also won three superbowls and been to one more than him.

Did you actually see the clip of the shave we are talking about?
It wasn't like the guy was chasing Belichick down the street snapping pictures. He was standing a couple of feet in front and Mangini (sp?) taking pictures because he works for the Boston Globe and that's his job and Belichick ran up from behind him and shoved the camera in his face. He wasn't being disrespectful to anyone, he was just doing his job, along with about 50 other photographers.
Personally, I'd be really pissed if someone did that.

Seems like he could have just slid between the two guys standing in front of him.

I saw it...no big deal. Even the NFL Network guys (Marshall Faulk et al)were laughing about it, saying "I guess he didn't get the shot". I think we should all just get over it.

GhettoDogAllStars 01-11-2007 11:20 AM

Re: What was up with the Belichick shove?

Of course it was rude, but Belichick is generally a rude person. You can't really expect him to tap the guy on the shoulder and politely ask him to move -- it's not that kind of environment after a game. However, any normal person would have gently pushed him aside with their arm somewhere around the reporter's waist while asking to be excused.

That said, you have to look at it from Belichick's perspective. This is IN New England, and Belichick probably knows the reporter personally (as well as most of the other NE reporters). He has to deal with this after EVERY game, and it has to get frustrating. It's possible that he has repeatedly told all the reporters to give him room after a game, and they don't honor his request. If that were the case, I would have probably done the same thing.

Another thing: people are rude every single day. That's not news -- even if it was the great almighty Bill Belichick (who we already know is rude anyways).

I just think there's a big difference between taking a picture and laying your hands on someone. Is it a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, no of course not. But it says alot about Belichick as a person.
