New QB Coach?
How about bringing in a specialist to work with JC?
Someone who will work on mechanics and the other fundamentals. I think JC would do very well with a Norv Turner type mentor. Btw, Yes I know the skins have a QB coach, I think its safe to say he probably sucks. |
Re: QB Coach
Isn't that what Bill Lazor does? You saying get rid of Lazor? If so? Then I'd say either bring back Musgrave or "promote" Brunell or Collins

I thinking of someone that will work on his release and footwork, and the other stuff lazor does. Someone more than a position coach. Brink back NORV!!! ;) |

Agreed |
Re: QB Coach
I thought Saunders liked being directly involved with developing QB techniques?

Agreed. I read in the Washingtonpost that Saunders has a very extensive offseason workout program for Campbell. Saunders seems like a very good coach for teaching footwork and release points. |
Re: QB Coach
Why is it assumed that Lazor sucks??
|
Re: QB Coach
Yeah, I think adding coaches will help. Ignore that Cambell has had 6 different coaches (4 coordinators in college, Gibbs, Saunders) in 6 years and played quite well despite not practicing with the starters from July to November. I think another voice in his ear will be what it takes to get him to the next level... :nono:
|
Re: QB Coach
Lazor did a good job of preparing Campbell, IMO. Plus, Saunders is clearly hands-on with his QBs. And I fully agree about NOT needing to add more coaches or change coaches with Campbell at this point. We need stability, as does JC.
|
Re: QB Coach
If anything else, we need to get rid of some of these coaches to streamline things. Especially CB coach and Safeties coach. Just fire one of them and call him a secondary's coach.

You pretty much summed it up right there.... |
Re: QB Coach
Why is it assumed that Lazor sucks??
Because he doesn't have "Former Head Coach" ahead of his name. We tend not to value coaches much if they weren't once head coaches. Pretty soon we'll be hiring Rich Kotite. |
Re: QB Coach
I'm with Matty here. What makes you believe Lazor sucks? All that stuff is specifically what Lazor does.

I guess it wasnt fair to say he sucks. The point I was trying to make is that it would benefit JC to have a mentor as a QB coach. Kind of what Norv did for Aikmen and what Favre had early on in his career. I doubt that Lazor is anything other than an X's and O's guy to campbell. Btw, Lazors bio: http://www.redskins.com/team/cprofile.jsp?id=53 I'm honestly supprised Gibbs didnt go with one of his old dogs from the glory days. |

Why? You seem to be making blanket statements without any support. I would think on our coaching staff, that has like 5 or 6 coaches specifically for offense, Lazor probably pretty much worries about the QB and his understanding of the offense and his technique. I seriously doubt he doesn't work with him on techniquee. Maybe you aren't explaining well what you mean. Are you just saying maybe another QB coach would be better? |

Looks like somebody here needs a "thread starter coach" ;)
|
Re: QB Coach
Wow a perfect job for Brunnel
I'm trying to differentiate a mentor and a coach, I think I've failed.
I think where you are failing is in understanding what a QB coach does. He basically is the mentor. I don't see a distinction in this case beweteen coach and mentor. |
Re: QB Coach
The Redskins already have too many coaches. The rule should be that they have to fire - not reassign - two assistants for every new guy they bring in until the number is down to about 17 total.
Someone mentioned that the Skins would be hiring Richie Kotite any day now because of his former head-coaching experience. If that happens, then you'll know for certain that the Washington Redskins have become a circus and the clowns are in charge. |

Of course I was only kidding when I said that.....I hope |

that would be my worse nightmare. for some reason i just hated that guy |
Re: QB Coach
I wouldn't be opposed to bringing in Mike Martz as a QB coach. I don't know how good Lazor is, but he can't be better than Martz at developing QBs.

I don't think Martz would slum as a QB coach. He is looking for another head job so a QB coach spot would probably not be very interesting to him. I have no good reason to think Lazor has done anything but a good job. Campbell wasn't a total mess and looked pretty prepared to me. He might have some mechanics to work out but this was Lazor's first year with him. Give him a whole off season more until we decide how good a job Lazor is doing. |

It's wishful thinking more than anything. |
Re: QB Coach
I remember hearing in an interview right after the Giants game JC will have someone woring with him over the off season I can't remember if it was the aforementioned Saunders or Lazor but one of hte two already has a plan lined up that includes working on his mechanics and sending him to the same NFL QB camp that the Eagles sent McNabb to that helped get him into shape.
|
Re: QB Coach
I think the problems that Campbell has is due to a lack of game experience rather than a lack of good coaching. Campbell is young and it was probably a lot going through his mind in games. Whatever the coaches worked on with him was not in the forefront of his thinking process. Once he gets comfortable and his confidence level rises everything will come naturally and the game will become more simple. He already has the tools so once he gets the game down I do not think that he will have any problems adapting. It is all a part of progression.

Re: QB Coach
Just what this team needs, another coach.
|
Re: QB Coach
No More Frickin Coaches.
|
Re: New QB Coach?
Will He help the Other Prima Donna coaches talk to each other...No changes keep the same system....Just tweek a few things... The Redskins have plenty of talent. 2007 is gonna be a Great Year!!!

Re: QB Coach
You start a thread about a new QB coach and do not even know if ours is any good?
I think that the skins have conditioned us to want older, experienced, higher priced coaches as opposed to developing younger coaches. Why should our coaching selections be any different than the way we sign players? I understand the point, that it may be better for Campbell to have a QB coach with a proven track record, but the flip side is that it may be good for Campbell to have a QB coach that the skins can keep around for a while while Campbell grows into the system (unlike what happened with Musgrave). |
Re: New QB Coach?
Ah, my man Kotite, the face of ineptitude

Re: New QB Coach?
The Chiefs just fired their qb coach Terry Shea who is reportedly really close to Saunders.
