Dale Lindsey Gone...

Kind of a surprise based on Gibbs history of retaining coaches. I admit I'm not totally disappointed.

Re: Dale Lindsey Gone...

sounds like good news to me, if only cause Gibbs said there would be changes. Maybe this is the first necessary move he had to do.
I never liked what I heard about Lindsey w/Lavar. Sure Lavar lacked discipline, but it sounded like Lindsey took it too far in berating him, not what your coaches should do.

I was about to say, Lavar probably isn't upset about this.

would be a thread I'd love to see next!

I am hopeful the secondary coaching gets worked out too.

i'm not suprised here. Our linebackers need help. The next step is to release Steve Jackson. Having one secondaries coach is enough.

I think we will be seeing that real soon.

I wonder if the skins have a targeted replacement? I bet between exit interviews, poor performance, and Williams defensie review, Lindsey was standing out like a sore thumb.

Re: Dale Lindsey Gone...

He better not be the last one. Hire hungry young coaches who still have the passion. There is too much complacency at Reskin park and that is something that they can change immediately.

Hell, I would like to hear Snyder come out and say that unless there is a turnaround, this is the last year. That would motivate some people and I think that if they are challenged they will respond.

Re: Dale Lindsey Gone...

Good bye Warrick Holdman also!!!! Jackson could be gone if Gibbs sees him as the cause of Taylor's regression this season. Gray should control all of the secondary.

no more assistants! all we need is GW, 1 dline coach, 1 LB coach, and 1 Secondary coach. thats what every other team has. this year we had like 25 diffrent assistants. all you need is like 10 including JG, AS, and GW.

According the WP, the front runner to replace him seems to be Kurt Olivadotti who is currently the defensive line-special teams coach.

"The Redskins have long been high on defensive assistant Kirk Olivadotti, who has drawn overtures from the Miami Dolphins in recent years, team sources indicated, and it is very likely he will be named Lindsey's replacement. Olivadotti was promoted to defensive line-special teams coach last year, and continued to earn strong praise from Gregg Williams, assistant head coach-defense."

Could Lindsey be the reason as to why it took 15 games to get Rocky on the field?

Lindsey's gruff attitude probably finally caught up with him.

Re: Dale Lindsey Gone...

He's the guy who said that anyone who paid attention could learn to play linebacker in the Redskins' scheme but LaVar never learned because he wouldn't pay attention.

Well, maybe Rocky wasn't paying attention either?

Or maybe Dale Lindsey is an over-rated blowhard?

You make the call. Remember, both can be true...

i odnt mind holdman all that much, i would keep him for depth.

Very good move IMO. We need some new direction, and I think Rocky and whoever else steps in will really benefit from this.

Props to Gibbs.

Re: Dale Lindsey Gone...

The Redskins organization is taking a realistic look at where they are as a team and what they need to do to improve. Obviously they decided to go in a different direction with regards to Coach Lindsey.

For all his dedication and hard work provided to the Redskins organization, I would like to say 'Thank You' to Coach Lindsey and wish him well in the future.

I'm also glad to see the Redskins make this decision very early in their off-season. It provides both the Redskins and Coach Lindsey the best oppotunities to move forward and hopefully upward.

Re: Dale Lindsey Gone...

The sad thing is that he was the primary cause of Lavar's departure, and now he's gone too. Maybe they should have gotten rid of Lindsey earlier.

Re: Dale Lindsey Gone...

One thing I like about this is the promotion is from within...in the same article it was mentioned that the 'Skins are the only team Olivadotti has been with throughout his coaching career (since 2000). Maybe this is a sign that Gibbs and more importantly the FO are finally starting to place value on continutiy, low turnover, and looking for good solid bargan basement quality instead of trying to make the big splash all the d*mn time.

I was watching the Skins v/s Broncos SB slauter the other night and the announcers for the game made the comment that the skins had more coaches than anyother team in the NFL even back then. So I guess having all these coaches is nothing new for a Gibbs team which I found interesting.

What has Lavar done while with the Giants which would want us to have him still in DC?

Yeah it is funny. I also noticed the titles were the same, Pettibone was the assistant head coach - defense.

We have an empty spot and the linebackers do not have a coach so we need an assistant to do that. I think this guy they want to promote from within will be great

This earlier thread regarding Lindsey's thoughts on McCune and others speak volumes about his abrasive nature. I for one am glad he's gone:

The writing seemed to be on the wall back in August

"He's not where we want him," Lindsey said. "Robert turned out to be a good special teams players last year, and if you're a backup linebacker here we expect you to be good in that area. But we expect him to rise this year when he's playing middle linebacker. And right now, I don't see him where we want him, and I'm not taking the blame for that."

When has Dale Lindsay EVER taken the blame for anything? He made it his business to call out and embarrass LaVar last year, but it wasn't until LaVar broke the lineup that the team became a physical run-stuffing unit during the playoff drive. It was LaVar with a key INT to set up a score against Tampa in the playoffs. It was LaVar who KO'ed Shawn Alexander the following week giving us a real chance to advance to the NFC Championship. Can you name even two impact plays that Holdman has made as Lindsay's annointed WLB??? And don't blame Lindsay for McIntosh developing at a glacial pace, because he won't take the blame for that either.

It's not about what he's done with the Giants, it's that maybe Lavar wasn't the bad guy in the Lindsey situation after all.

Re: Dale Lindsey Gone...

I was remembering one of the games where Lindsey berated LaVar on the sideline in front of everyone and then went after him again in the locker room after the game. Even some of the players felt that was totally unnessary and uncalled for. LaVar kept his mouth shut for the most part during that exchange, other than to say treat me like a man, a player not as a child.
Glad to see that LaVar wasn't the total reason for the blow up. We could have used his physical presense and play this year, had he been able to stay healthy.

irish 01-17-2007 02:26 PM

Re: Dale Lindsey Gone...

I think the team needs more abrasive coaches that get in the players face and make them uncomfortable. This year from training camp on seemed to be about making the players comfortable (from the white unis, to not playing in preseason, to short camp) and the results were a disaster. Player discomfort is a good thing in pro sports.

MTK 01-17-2007 02:42 PM

Re: Dale Lindsey Gone...

Different players respond to different types of coaching. Having more in your face type of coaches is not going to translate to more success. Williams isn't exactly a guy that goes easy on his players and look where it got them this year. You still have to have the talent and in the end that talent has to do their jobs.

Re: Dale Lindsey Gone...
Based on what obeservations or facts?
Based on the fact that players in their contract year always seem to play great. IMO they play extra hard because they know if they dont play great their contract may go down.

Of course the Redskins like to not bother with contract years and extend players that have had a few good games (Betts) thereby removing any discomfort and incentive for the player.

MTK 01-17-2007 03:43 PM

Re: Dale Lindsey Gone...

So what should they have done differently with Betts? Let him go?

That's because you're part of the great anti-LaVar conspiracy. Now that the truth has come out - you just want to shove it under the rug. Face it, you just can't acknowledge the truth in LaVar's statement that Joe Gibbs is the worst coach he ever played for.

Go drink your kool-aid you anti-LaVar, Dale Lindsey loving, blame it on injury person.

Admit it, you lay awake night thinking of ways to turn things into Anti-LaVar threads.
