Super Bowl food: post your recipes
I make a cheesy fiesta dip that taste decent:
1 brick of Velveeta- cubed 1/2 pound of ground beef cooked with taco seasoning 8 oz can of salsa/picante 8 oz can of refired beans *sometimes I put in a cup of monterey jack cheese as well which makes it thicker. Put them all in a slow cooker for about 2 or 3 hours. |
Re: Suber Bowl food: post your recipes
I love the Suber Bowl almost as much as I love the Super Bowl. Almost.
|
Re: Suber Bowl food: post your recipes
My aunt and sister both make these things for family parties and they are great. The only problem is that they usually only last a few minutes before everyone scarfs them down.

Re: Super Bowl food: post your recipes
These "things"? Sound tasty!
|
Re: Super Bowl food: post your recipes
Here's a very good dip.
Dice all of these up: 1 good size onion 1 large cucumber 1 0r 2 tomato's depending on size 1 & 1/2 green or yellow or red pepper 1 1/2 cup mild cheeder cheese 1 small bottle of Italian Dressing Mix in a bowl and let it sit in frig for atleast 2 hours, over night is best and serve with your fav corn chips. The measurements of the ingredients is really just the same amount of each thing. |
Re: Super Bowl food: post your recipes
I would eat "things" every day of the week if I could!
 You know, I expected much more from AMD! He really let me down. |

Re: Super Bowl food: post your recipes
I don't have any recipes, but my Mom would make something similar to your cheese dip, 724. However, a few years ago I got a mysterious cheese stain on the back of one of my shirts -- right in the center. There is NO possible way I could have done it. I am almost certain that somebody was eating that dip, then gave me a hug and had that cheese dip on their hands. Now I will always be careful of getting hugs when the cheese dip is present. Beware!

Its a dip and I agree that it sounds to healthy but its only a dip and not a main item. Everytime I make it for a party it is gone along with all the junk food. |

Re: Super Bowl food: post your recipes
Basically you can take any flavors you like, mix them with some butter and get awesome wings. Here's a nice way to make some tasty ones.
Get your butter at room temperature so you can mash it. Take any flavorings you like, if you like cajun, toss that, some paprika, garlic powder into the bowl with the butter, mash it all up. Now bake the wings until they're done and while they're hot toss them in the bowl with all the butter and it coats them nicely. |

Yeah, but I don't know about this particular recipe, I just pulled it off a random website. They basically just taste like crab cakes, which means that they're really good. |
Re: Super Bowl food: post your recipes
Crab cakes and football. That's what Maryland does.

I am so jealous. Maryland blue crabs are one of my favorite foods, and I can't get them because I live in Florida. :(

I think you can get blues from parts of the Gulf. I could be wrong but I feel like I've heard that a lot of blue crabs actually come from the NO area. |

Yeah, you can ... but they're not the same. I've had blue crabs at restaurants around here, and they aren't as good. They "claim" to be Maryland, but I doubt it. They gotta be Chesapeake Bay blues! |

Ghetto - Check out this site: Harris Crab House Home Page
One of the better places to get crabs in MD, and they ship. I make a pretty killer seven layer dip. 1st layer - 1 can of refried beans that has been mixed with a packet of taco seasoning 2nd layer - 8oz Cream cheese and 8 oz sour cream mixed. Since I love cilantro, I add some here. 3rd layer - Salsa (I usually use a jar of Pace Think and Chunky Medium) 4th layer - Green Pepper 5th layer - A good mix of onions and green onions 6th layer - lettuce 7th layer - shredded cheese (i recommend one of the Mexican blends) And garnish with either black olives, jalapenos or both. AMD - yes, there are Louisiana Gulf Blue Crabs...the places that serve crabs year round here get them in the winter. They are good, but not the same. They aren't as sweet as a MD Blue. |

I know what you're saying. I bet a lot of it has to do with the spices, especially a lack of Old Bay outside of the Chesapeake area. This is also why I hate the franchise Joe's Crab Shack, especially the one by my house. How can you call a place a "crab shack" in the state of Maryland when the place doesn't serve stemmed blues?!?!? |
Re: Super Bowl food: post your recipes
damn Bohnzie, looks like I'm going to have to make that for Sunday! I love that kind of stuff.

Yes trotilla chips and I like the scoop kind. If you want I'll check the receipt tonight and check my measurements and my mom adds chopped up black olives but I'm not big on them. |

Whats wrong with Chesapeake Bay Blues I'd think that allot of those MD blue crabs come out of the chesapeake bay or conjoining rivers. I will have to say that a friend of mine has a farm market and they get big jimmy blue crabs from MD and they are as good a crab as I've had. I'm not saying they are better than the ones we catch in tidewater Va. but they are just as good as the best we can catch. It is true that you can tell the difference in the crabs from different areas I think it has to do with the amount of salt in the water. |

It's good stuff man. I've made it several times, and mixed things around. The best thing to me is adding the cilantro to the cream cheese/sour cream layer. You get the flavor of it, but it doesn't overpower like it would if it was by itself. And I totally agree with your comment on Joe's Crab Shack. It's a dumbed down Red Lobster with no MD blues. If you want a good place for Crabs...May's in Frederick. 355 just down the way from the Mall. |

Re: Super Bowl food: post your recipes
I don't usually make a big deal about food for the SB since I'm usually so sloshed by the end of the 1st quarter that anything tastes good.

Re: Super Bowl food: post your recipes
pigs in a blanket is a necessity for any superbowl party other than that wings, chips, pizza and beer, i mean thats all you really need, football isnt fancy so the food shouldnt be either.
|
Re: Super Bowl food: post your recipes
@bohnzie: Thanks for the link. I'm definitely going to order some when I have some extra money (f... taxes).
@amd: we have joe's crab shack's here, but I've never been. I had a feeling I would be disappointed. However, stone crabs are good here in FL ... people mostly just eat the claws (they're huge). I used to go to this place called The Red Roost with my family, way back in the day. We had to take a ferry to get there, and it was always a fun experience because I was pretty young. I haven't been to many all-you-can-eat crab places, but I'd have to say this one was prototypical. You know -- huge paper tablecloth on a roll at the end of the table, wooden picnic tables, etc. I heard that it closed, but I'm not sure because I found some info online about it. Has anyone ever been there? |

Pigs in a blanket with heinze honey mustard as a dip. Has anyone ever slow cook wings on a grill with hickory chips? Its the only way to cook them. I hit them hard on higher heat for about 15 min. then cut down to low add allot of hickory chips and cook for another 30 to 40 min. and I promise you they will be the best wings you have ever had. Texas Pete make a good hot wing sauce. |
Re: Super Bowl food: post your recipes
Yup, slow cooking wings is where it's at. You definitely have to get them hot early to lock all the flavor in, then slow cook them bitches until they fall apart.

I did not get all the measurements for the dip but I did ask my wife and she said I had the right mix of stuff. The only thing she said is she uses Kraft zesty Italian dressing and a medium onion and not a large onion. Its best if it has a few hours or over night to sit and soak up the dressing. I add enough to coat the dip and you do not want drench with the dressing. It is realy a type of sausa so you need to dice up the vegetables accordingly which is most of the work. If you have one those choppers they work good and you can use a food processor but I find that the processor can sometimes chop it to fine if you run it to long. I like it chopped in cubes about the size alittle bigger than pencil eraser. Give it a try I think you will like it. |
