What is particularly irksome is that ESPN's Skip Bayless and NFL Network's Adam Schefter both indicated that a primary reason why Monk would not be admitted is that he does not have many "memorable catches." I cannot believe that is actually a criterion for wideouts. Maybe Brandon Lloyd will get in (j/k).

That's just such an insanely stupid reason to deny him and in addition it's a myth that only seems to be growing with these ignorant fools in the media.

That Monk for the hall video proves that he's had more than his share of big catches.

Just gonna state the obvious--this is total and unmitigated BULLSHIT.

I have no repsect for the hall, the NFL, the sportswriters who vote (or at least the ones who didn't vote for Monk). It just goes to show that all their lipservice to "character" and "sportsmanship" and "quality" is just so much meaningless smoke. They are trying hard to send the message that nice guys finish last. But Art Monk has already proved beyond any doubt that he is number one as a player, a teammate, and as a man. If this is what the hall is about, they do not deserve someone with the character and virtue of Art Monk. **** them.

Unfortunately, the HoF selection committee is not allowed to take "character issues" into consideration in their voting.

I'm new to the forum but this travesty with the HoF voters, in particular that lying weasal Peter King, I had to post something. I tried to E-mail some of the voters, but at least Peter King and Wilbon only have E-mail forms on their sites (Wash Post / SI) from where you can E-mail. They don't have published E-mail address that I could find on Google (I'm sure a more in-depth search may turn up something but I am furious right now). I know I will never visit the HoF until the voting process is changed to include living HoF members rather than idiots from the media only.

Unfortunately these media idiots parrot each other like nobody's business. The guy on NFL.com today with Jamie Dukes (Sportswriter from Denver) mentioned the exact same thing as a rebuttal to Jamie who thought Monk should be in. Jamie shot back that he couldn't remember any siginifcant articles from any of the voters (Classic!)

This just goes to show how stupid all this is...like I said before..Peter King suggested Monk be put in just to end the whining...they're all idiots and have probably never played a down in their lives. I'm done with it. I hope Art doesn't worry about it either. It just goes to show how worthless this all is in reality. The important thing is that Redskins never forget him.

Adding insult to injury is the elevation to the Hall of Micheal Irvin - a man whose ongoing substance abuse problem is a ticking time bomb sure to embarass the National Football League and his employer - ESPN. They succeeded in largely covering up his unbelievable comments to Dan Patrick, but the nature of his problem is such that he is sure to strike again.

This vote today signifies the media engaging in the ultimate act of "enabling". They have by their vote endorsed the reckless behaviour of Irvin and renounced the responsible behaviour of Monk. They are saying more about themselves than they are about the candidates. They are saying loudly, 'We are all moral shitbags!" I take them at their word.

There are several players who deserve this. Jurgenson, Riggins, and Darrell Green have also distinguished themselves in a manner befitting this honor. Indeed, their numbers are all "unofficially" retired -they haven't been issued to new players. The difference is, those players have either been inducted, or will be.

Art Monk has been slighted for years now. Football's greatest individual honor has been [u]denied[/u] him by prejudicial voters. What the Redskins can do is offer their highest honor to him. And they can do it now.

I'm sick of these stupid idiots from the media holding the privelege of being the ones who get to vote players in. It's time for the NFL to get rid of all these guys that have never played the game before, and make a up a new selection committee, made up of older generation players who've retired at least 10 seasons ago, because they know a hell of a lot more about football than those douchebags in the media. The NFL could ask each team to nominate one player, or perhaps two, players from the older generation to be on the selection committee. That would leave either 32 or 64 older generation players to vote on who should be in.

There absolute must be a strong push of some sort, motivated, by the fans to get Art Monk into the Hall. Or better yet, retire his number.

I mean, we spend countless hours here petitioning our opinions, one way or another. Let's petition something that every true Redskins fan will get behind.

The first step is to find out who voted for Monk and who didn't. Then, to select one of those no voters and target him with a campaign of mayhem, deceipt, trickery and hate. And it should be someone other than Fat Lenny. He seems to be immune to reason at this point. Someone from a smaller market will be more vulnerable to overreaction and therefore be more likely to make an example of himself. Someone less well known might say, "Who needs this?" and pass the word of his ordeal on.

I honestly can't even comment right now. Last year, and the year before I really never felt that he was going to get voted in. When I woke up today, I actually got my Monk jersey out and ready to wear tommraow becuase I was positive he was going in. This is a f***ing travisty. How the hell Irvin got in before him, is absolutley rediculous to me. I think Irvin was HOF bound regardless and probaboly should be, but Art Monk is being robbed. The guy will one day be in the HOF, but will he even live to see that day. I agree with what Brud said, the Redskins need to make a serious statment about this injustice and do somthing for Art.

I was going to post earlier, but I would have gotten in trouble for writing what I wanted to. This caps off a bad bad year for the Redskins nation. Monk will get in some day. It will be impossible to keep him out forever.

If character and leadership are not supposed to be factors why the hell is Carson in? Carson did not provide any more or less HOF statistics/intangibles to his team than Art Monk. The only reaonable excuse I'm kind of begrudgingly willing to settle for would be for Monk to have to wait the length of time Carson did. Which was...how long?

...So who's eligible next year? Are we to hope for a Green/Monk dual induction ceremony? I'd almost enjoy waiting to see that from a totally selfish perspective.

I found out about this travesty after leaving the movie theater and turning on ESPN. As the announcer gave the names I knew Monk's name would be last. And when I heard Micheal Irvin's name, I lost my religion for a minute.

The very thing that these hypocrites overlooked about Art Monk is the very thing that Micheal Irvin possessed. A bunch of personal flaws and headlines that sold a lot of their shitty newspapers that aren't worth wrapping fish in. The great Art Monk played the game, declined interviews and went home. Peter King mentioned several years ago that Art Monk didn't do interviews. But Monk sure did the hell out of King's New York Giants.

Carson got in because he made disparaging comments about the HOF secret selection process and basically said he wouldn't show up for the event even if he was selected. Low and behold, he's chosen the next year, and its the greatest day of his life. The HOF doesn't want football players nor their fans to devalue its selections because then there no reason to care who gets in. By the way, I didn't see any reporters names from the Washington Post on the HOF committee.

I dont understand this, what did Michael Irvin do that Monk didnt, except for run his mouth and make himself look like an asshole time and time again. As an Italian white american, I really dont see how other white americans could vote for this guy, he basically said on national TV that we have no athleticism and the only way Tony Romo could be playing so good was because he had African American ancestors. Art Monk never brought racism or stupidity with him on or off the field, he was a character guy and one who deserves to be enshrined. The people who voted for Michael Irvin should be absolutely embarrassed with themselves. I dont care about the Hall of Fame anymore, If they fail to understand how good Art Monk was then they dont deserve to have him, he was and will always be one of the greatest Redskins of all time.

Yep, a freakin crackhead who claims to be clean and as long as he stayed on television and buddy buddy with the ESPN he was going to get in. How in the hell are so many ESPN guys aloud to vote and not one reporter from the Washington Post is?

I feel bad for Monk but like I've said in the past he was a good receiver but not HoF material. I think us Redskins fans are just going to have to accept the fact that Monk is not going into the HoF.

I'm an African-American, I saw Irvin's little interview on Real Sports and his "quest for redemption." The only reason Irvin got in is because he's one of them. Them meaning the media. They protect each other. Pat Summerrall suffered from alcoholism. Summerall went to ESPN and spoke to the management and told them to give Irvin a chance. ESPN did. Irvin has relapsed several times as an employee of ESPN. Irvin is an embarrassment to his family,community and people. When one does good such as Monk and is not recoginized for his accomplishments by the media at large, then we who understand his contribution should create our own award to give to him
