Fred Smoot Update
 

Just wanted to post an article I found on Fred Smoot and his feelings about playing for the Vikings. Not saying the Skins should go out and sign the guy tommorow - just sending along an article.

Here is one tibit that I found interesting that Smoot said:

"I would love to be a Viking," he said. "But I am nobody's bench rider. Fred Smoot is a starter."

How can the Vikings keep him happy on the bench if he says this?

I once thought it was just another warpath thread topic w/no chance of being reality. But if that article is right, there is a chance that Smoot comes back. A lot of teams would want to save $5mil in cash. Not us, but maybe the vikes.
I don't think we could guarantee him a starting job though, and that may be part of his demands.
Let's bring him back!

TMC - I think you hit the nail there.

I believe that the Vikings owner is not like ours with massive amounts of disposable cash. I know with the huge contract Hutchinson signed he is not "cheap", but hopefully he refuses to pay a "backup" (which Smoot is not) $5 million and cut ties.

smoots legend grew a helluva lot since he left. i wouldn't take him over rogers or springs. and he already said he isn't riding the bench. he was great media when he was here, but lets not get carried away with smoots talent level. remember, he got replaced in Minn. by a rookie

true but I like Smoot. Agreed I wouldnt take him over Springs or Rogers @ this point just because he WAS replaced by a rook. I mean, being replaced by a rook isnt too big but, Smoot isnt all that. I like him and would welcome him back, but it aint happenin.

Rogers needs to be broken down some. He has the talent but he hasn't shown me anything to be egotistical about. More often than not, he should be embarassed when he cashes that game check.

Folks, we are 35 posts into this thread and no one has asked the critical question yet. Forget who will be the nickel corner. Forget what the cap implications of a signing might be. Forget all that stuff and focus on the REAL question:


If Smoot returned to the Redskins, would TAFKAS revert to his previous identity?

I also wouldn't take Smoot over Springs or Rogers but weren't they talking about moving Springs to safety?

I loved Smoot when he was herebut he used to drive me crazy with the amount of cushion he would give receivers....even on 3rd and short. Still, I wouldn't mind seeing him back if he checked his ego at the door.
