Perspective from Denver
In case you missed it, here's a line from Jim Armstrong's column in the Denver Post:
Just wondering: With NFL free agency just over the dashboard, what no-difference makers are the Redskins going to overpay this time? ... Rather than get angry at him for saying something a lot closer to truth than falsehood, figure out a way to channel sensible vibes to the Skins' FO as the Free Agent Open Season comes closer and closer... |
Re: Perspective from Denver
we are about to "overpay" nate clemts but that wont be an overpayment cause he has earned it
|
Re: Perspective from Denver
we are about to "overpay" nate clemts but that wont be an overpayment cause he has earned it
Yeah, I agree that Clements deserves a top dollar deal.
|
Re: Perspective from Denver
I don't care about denver. I wished I lived there... but I could care-less about what they think....
Nate Clements deserves to get a high dollar deal... and redskins one should be buffalo bound shortly... I still think smoot might find his way back... but we'll see. |
Re: Perspective from Denver
We are the laughing stock of the league for our stupidity with not just free agency, but our absolute disregard for the draft.
|
Re: Perspective from Denver
All I ask is for consistency and credit where it's due. In 2005, you didn't hear about the shrewdness in the offseason that year where we signed pretty much ONLY Rabach.
It's just en vogue to hate on the Skins. And just as was mentioned above, we're going to "overpay" Nate Clements, in the sense that we spend a lot of money on him. Regardless, it's a position you break the bank for, even the Skins. |

Yep. We're not exactly following a model for success. Let's not get screwed on every deal, no drastic overpaying, and let's not mortgage the future for the present every year. |

Re: Perspective from Denver
I think we did okay in 2004 - Cornelius Griffin and Marcus Washington.
|
Re: Perspective from Denver
i just want a top tier corner that will make teams think twice before throwing his way and that will help rogers cause they will throw more at him forcing him to play better and get more picks
|
Re: Perspective from Denver
blah blah.

Re: Perspective from Denver
Does anyone really care what a reporter from an AFC city that's half way across the country has to say?
"Oh no! A backup from Around The Horn is trying to pile on to a story that people have been talking about for years now. That really hurts." |
Re: Perspective from Denver
Who sits the bench if we sign Nate?
I saw Springs shut down Steve Smith when healthy. Springs has been pro-bowl caliber as a Redskin and I've seen every snap of every game. Carlos Rogers may have to hit the bench. He dropped that ball against the Seahawks that screwed us big time. That play has been his M.O. ever since. That guy should have like 15 picks..... What about moving Springs to Free Safety and Rogers and Nate on the corners w/ ST moving to strong?? Use our # 6 pick on Lamar Woodly in the middle or a stud DLineman. Keep Washington on the outside and let Marshall and Rocky fight it out for the other corner. Not bad!! |

Something tells me if they were to heap us with praise we'd care then. But this organization gives them no reason to do that. |

Re: Perspective from Denver
Can't argue too much w/them, but the funny thing to me is that this writer is in Denver, which along w/the cowpokes is the only team that rivals us in FA signings. They usually are close to us in cap space or lack thereof.
Don't forget that Denver made the trade w/us which allowed us to draft JC, who I believe is developing into a top notch qb. Thanks Broncos! |

Not sure who to draft. Cut Shawn Springs? Are you serious? NEVER!!! |

i am not saying we should cut hi i am saying they are thinking about it

He didnt earn it here in Washington. Hopefully someday the Skins will draft a player watch him develop into a star and then pay him for what he has done here. I'm not holding my breath. |
Re: Perspective from Denver
I wouldn't be heartbroken if Shawn Springs gets cut. He's a loudmouth who needs to keep his ass on the field. He talks a lot of smack about other teams when he's not even in the lineup (see Giants: LaVar and one other game I can't remember). He has the same problem as Cornelius Griffin: Injuries. Is it bad luck? Yeah, I'd say so, but bad luck has him stealing money. That's the reason both of them were available in the first place, they're always hurt. They're overrated now, when they're on the field they're very good...when they're on the field.

Otherwise, the Broncos not only have a far better win-loss record than Washington over the last few seasons, they also got the best of us with the Champ + a 2nd rounder for Portis deal. |

But the trade for JC looks like it was worth it regardless of what he does in the future. by that I mean it was worth the chance to draft a qb & develop him as the qb of the future. I'm not getting out the annointing oils just yet, but I like what I see from him & he seems to be a poised guy whose very grounded. T. Bradshaw rated him as 6th best of the young qbs in the league. That seems about right at this point. |
Re: Perspective from Denver
jason campbell is a much better version of aaron brooks he can scramble big time arm but unlike brooks he has the field presence to know when to get the ball out of there

Yeah! He earned it for the Bills. That's not saying he will do the same here. (A-R-C-H-U-L-E-T-A; L-L-O-Y-D) Not saying that he won't either, just that there is no guarantee that his level of performance will be the same. These decisions are not made in a vacuum. Are you happy to sign Clements if it jeopardizes signing Dockery and a #1 draft pick? Is $18 to $20 million the best use of the money? Lets not get too excited yet. |

Hell No I Dont Want Him If It Puts Dockery Out But He Is Nice He Has Been Doing It For Years
**cough cough*** sean taylor **cough**
Well, you know what? I'm not sold on Sean Taylor either. He did nothing but regress this year. Now, you could make the argument that he put too much on his shoulders and looked bad in a really bad secondary. But there are still question marks -- he got burned in pass coverage, took really bad angles on tackle attempts, and the knock on him after 3 seasons is still biting hard on play action. There's a whole lot of fine tuning for Sean Taylor to do. He's a hell of an athlete and he makes some bone-jarring hits, but he's Arrington-esque in many alarming ways. |
Re: Perspective from Denver
what do u mean he regressed that is carzy!

I hate the term "NFL expert" that they label those sports media douche bags with. All of them dogged on Drew Brees right before he blossomed, they said Chad Pennington was done, and said that Mike Vanderjagt was a great offseason acquisition that would help the cowboys to reach the superbowl, they really hit the nail on the head there. We have had our bad luck, i know, but give Joe Gibbs a chance to make things better. We were hammered by injuries last year, and we had to break in a new offense and QB(which should have been done earlier in the season). That guy is in denver, just ask them how that Gerard Warren extension worked out, or how about the Ian Gold signing two seasons ago, everybody messes up, were just the ones who happen to be under the microscope. |
Re: Perspective from Denver
At least you can always count on the Redskins being the NFL Champion in free agency.

Much better than Brooks...that could be me!

Re: Perspective from Denver
Earthquake:
If the best thing you can say about Jason Campbell is that he's a "better version of Aaron Brooks" then you don't think very much of Campbell. Brooks wore out his welcome in New Orleans and lost his job there; he went to Oakland and lost his job there to Andrew Walter who flat out STINKS. I'd start either of the Detmer brothers over Walter. Saying Campbell is better than Brooks means that Campbell doesn't trip over the yard lines when he runs and the ball eventually lands somewhere in the stadium when he throws it. Come on, you have to have something a LOT better to say about Jason Campbell than that... Oh, and if Sean Taylor did not regress this year, then he stunk in his first two years too. That's what he did this year; he stunk. Don't know why that was the case because he is a physical juggernaut, but for whatever reasons, he just wasn't any good this year. Yes, I know he played in the Pro Bowl but if you get game tapes this year, he gave away as many TDs as Archuletta did. And when you play safety, there's a word for that kind of performance; UNACCEPTABLE. Will Taylor get better? Probably. His physical skills ought to allow him to improve if he takes to even a little bit of coaching on fundamentals. But if he doesn't improve, the Redskins' defense is in trouble while he's back there at safety roaming around in places he shouldn't be and taking fakes he shouldn't take. |
Re: Perspective from Denver
no i love jason campbell i was just trying to compare him to someone but he is way way way way better than aaron brooks my brother thinks he is garbage but look for him to throw for about 2800 to 3300 yards this season with 22 to 28 tds

lets not forget how denver basicaly brought in the clevland browns defensive line. last i heard, they're all about to be unemployed. your post is right on the money. |

The former Browns (now Bronco) defensive line was still #12 in the league against the run compared to our #27. |

big friggin deal, the broncos entire defense was much better than the skins last year. that doesn't change the fact that the broncos are now getting rid of those former browns. i would call that whole situation a bad front office move by the broncos, they should have never went after them in the first place. |
Re: Perspective from Denver
true but alot of denver defense comes from their extremely fast linebackers and lynch's ability to support the run and good tackling corners DRAFTING ALAN BRANCH will move the redskins run d from 27th last year to at least 15th by himself and he will also help the passing defense and Nate Clements would move the pass d from 31st to at least 15th
