Thomas Jones formally requests a trade

Just saw it on ESPNEWS. They said that they think the Bears will be willing to accomodate him because he's only got 1 year left and they have Cedric Benson. Should be interesting to see how that goes...

I'm betting he'll end up with the Giants.

F*CK. I hope he doesn't end up there. I actually like to watch Thomas Jones and I have a feeling he could find a way to kill the Skins about as badly as Tiki did...twice a year. ugh

Thomas Jones is about one fifth the running back Tiki is/was. i say bring it on. the jets might also be in the mix

Im not really sure whether some of you will deem this to be relevant to this thread...but im curious to know how some of you believe Ladell Betts' stock compares to Thomas Jones' stock at this time.

I like Ladell alot, but im gonna have to say that thomas jones probably has a higher value in most execs eyes...cause he's had two strong years in a row...whereas Ladell has only showcased his talent for less than a year...

Im interested to know what you guys think though..so weigh in...

Jones and the 95th pick (3rd round) to Houston for the #8
#8 and #63 (3rd round) to Redskins for #6

Lot of unhappy campers in Chi town. Kind of weird for a team just coming off a Super Bowl.

It is kinda odd Rivera being sacked and then the better RB asking for a trade ... and word in Briggs is mighty pissed by the tag

On top of that, they're dragging out the Lovie Smith contract. Although, I would be floored if he's not signed.

Re: Thomas Jones formally requests a trade

I could see the following happening, Giants lure Lovie to NY next year with a big contract. Rivera returns to Chicago as head coach in 2008 for a salary comparable to what Lovie got when he first signed on as head coach

i would think Ladells value, right now, is at the highest it will ever be. and i would think it would compare favorably to Jones for the simple fact that he is signed, and at a bargain basement price

Re: Thomas Jones formally requests a trade

they said on espn they expect him to stay. they said a year or so ago they rejected a 2nd and 3rd roudner for him, and will probably look for a 1st and 2nd rounder, and he isnt worth that

VERY TRUE! I dont think Betts will come out next year and blow shit open like he did this year. Betts had his shot at being the main guy and he did ok. I mean he started, what? 7 games? With almost 1300 yards? And almost 650 recieving? Yeah. His value at this point is WAYYYYYYYYY up. Im surprised I havent heard about anyone offering picks or such for him. There are a lot of teams that could REALLY use Betts, i.e. Jets, NY?, CHI(Maybe!), Oak. I know Oak has Fargas or whatever but, he's a chump and they know it.

It's hard to believe that the Bears are going to basically hand the offense to a back, who up to this point can't stay healthy. What is the league coming to?!

Possibly but I'm betting that if the Chargers tender him at first round value (as opposed to 1st and 3rd) then the Giants will make a run at Michael Turner.

Isn't that what the Redskins had to do last year? My belief is that Benson will do just fine. You don't go to one of the best in Texas' history to dud because of a couple of nagging injuries. He was the number 4 pick and he has all the tools.

jones is better than benson, i mean, they've been trying to replace him for years now and he still had the job. benson was a wasted pick. jones still has years left, and he'll be starting somewhere.

I'd take tafkas's deal in a heartbeat.

I'm sure the Bears would like to have two strong backs, but Benson's going to be dominant very soon (next year). They don't need Thomas Jones.

That Guy 02-24-2007 07:38 PM

Re: Thomas Jones formally requests a trade

benson's not going to be close to larry johnson's 2005 production unless grossman magically morphs into trent green by september. once roaf retired, even that whole offense slowed down.

We did...but I don't think anyone EXPECTED Betts to have a year like he did. You just can't predict those things...Betts ran like a man possessed and there's no guarantees about Benson and his injuries, so why give up the back you know can succeed.

no he's not he held out rookie year and jones ended up having a career year jones would be an idiot to leave chiago he is a like a deshaun foster

foster can't get on the field. jones has no ankle issues, and has good numbers as a solo back. I mean, it's not jones fault that benson held out when the team wanted to start him immediately :P

and the little bit that benson has played, it seems like it doesnt take much for him to get nicked up

while that is true i feel if jones comes to the giants and has to play the cowboys d the eagles d and the redskins better d in 07 2 times each he will be wishing he was still on the bears running against the lions and packers

Jones should be traded-- I like him and I think he's underrated and all but Benson should be the starter. He's going to explode when he gets the chance.
