Sean Taylor Concerns

Safety Sean Taylor left the mandatory four-day rookie symposium, held from June 27 to June 30 in San Diego, after one day, apparently because of a personal matter. According to a source, Taylor had told the Redskins that he needed to return to Miami to clear out his apartment before getting evicted.

Taylor, the No. 5 overall pick who hasn't yet officially picked an agent, was instructed to return by the league for the final two days. [/i]

Is anyone else getting a little concerned about Taylor? He seems to be surrounded by bizarre circumstances.. Firing his agent a couple days after the draft and still hasn't picked one, allegedly missing some OTAs, now this.. I don't know about you, but stuff like this makes me nervous.. On the field he was all the rage from what I've heard and read, but just makes me wonder where his head is or who he is entrusting to help him with decisions..

redskins told him to get back for the last two days...

yeah, heart sunk a bit... wtf? KW was supposed to be the guy with problems, not him...

If he had legitimate reasons to leave and the team was OK with that then No, I don't have a problem.

Yeah it does seem he's been involved in some strange happenings so far, but I'd be much more concerned if he was out getting arrrested in a bar fight or something like that.

I hadn't heard about him missing some OTA's, other than when he got the shaving cream pie in the face, where did you hear that?

It's gotta be quite a transition to the pros for a rookie. You'd think more would be made of these 'happenings' if they were truly detrimental to the team or to his development as a player. I'm sure the team is keeping a close eye on all their rookies to help with the transition.

I'm not going to get worried until I start hearing the team is worried or until I see his mugshot on the news. Guy seems to be too much of a stand-up player for that.

his priorities/time management just seem a bit off for a top 5 pick.

Come on guys cut him some slack. His rookie for God's sake. He'll be ok.

He's a rookie without a signed contract and without an agent. So he's got to handle stuff on his own, give him a break he's young and these kind of mistakes aren't indicative of anything but his youth.

This just goes to show you how helpless a lot of these guys are. They're agents do just about everything for them and allow them to concentrate on football. Once he signs these little hiccups should disappear, unless he feels cheated out of a 6.5 million dollar roster bonus or something.

considering we don't know all the details it's not really fair of us to judge his situation, don't ya think?

I was listening to ESPN Radio (mistake #1, I know :) ) after minicamps and Clayton and Salisbury were talking about the Skins and they were saying that Arrington and Taylor were who Gibbs was referring to when he said something like, 'There were a couple more abscences than we would have liked'.. I am not down on the kid at all, just weird things like the agent deal and the timing of the apartment just struck me as odd.. I guess though without an agent he's not getting any money at all since agents usually front their clients cash until their contract kicks in so that may have something to do with the apartment eviction.. Ah well, maybe everyone (myself included) is just ready for the hitting to begin!

I concur

Deciding to fire his agent is not bizarre in any way. Regardless of when it happened. Missing out on the rest of the meetings because of the eviction is not great, but it is not the end of the world. You must remember he is a 21 Y.O. college student. It's what happens to college students that do not have a ton of money. Non-issue.

I'm not really worried. It's not like he's getting busted for speeding, pot, and sex with 15-year old girls

yeah, he isnt violating the law, no legal trouble or anything, but he does need to try and get his things sorted out soon with the agent.

I can find out where his apartment is, ive got Eric Wistroms number and a couple other guys on defense that would probably know. Then we can all get together this weekend and help the kid move. Problem solved.

No doubt!! I would have had some movers a.k.a freinds with pickups get there asses over to my crib and get my sh-t out. I am sure he could get a loan from any bank to keep him afloat untill he get's his 10 + million signing bonus! :dallas:

If this is the worst trouble Sean Taylor ever gets into, the Skins will be very happy.

Here is the nagging itch in all of this. I have been a starving college student too. I never had to go to LA for a seminar as part of the process of getting my first job out of college so I could make millions of dollars, but I suspect that if I did I would have taken care of the "moving out" details prior to getting on the plane to LA. BTW, if he is being "evicted", where will he be living after the seminar? In a refrigerator box under a bridge? I don't think so. In fact, I don't think he is so destitute that he can't get someone to put whatever stuff he wants into storage for him.

Keep this in mind. Taylor - like just about every other kid drafted in the first two rounds of the draft - has been coddled and pampered because of his athletic skills since he was about 10 years old. He is probably used to having people do "stuff" for him. And Taylor's Wonderllic test scores do not inspire you to think that he had to choose between NFL Football and a career as a professor of philosophy. So, maybe he is having difficulty keeping priorities straight because that is a difficult thing for him to grasp.

Like I said, if this is the worst that happens to him, the Skins are in fat city. But if he has other problems making decisions and keeping his obligations straight...

Agreed, a whole lot of nothing. Without an agent to front him cash and no signed contract, he's probably living off of family right now.

Skinsncanes, when u do help him move please express to him the importance of de-cleating at least one Cowboy this season. Or scoring off a pick at the least.

Yeah, there is plenty here for us Redskin fans to be concerned about, but way to early to be making any kind of judgements at all. We are getting very small bits of info. No one even knows why he fired his agent. Generally, these kids in the first round have their act together much better than this, but they also always have an agent walking them through everything. It really seems like Taylor is doing some serious struggling here. I just hope it all works out for him and for the Redskins.

I think Lavar is trying to talk taylor into letting him be his agent, lavar is bound and determained to get that 6.5 mil. one way or the other. :D

Taylor is fine, u guy's got to understand he doesn't have any money yet and I would leave to if my stuff was about to be put on the street. Until the contract is signed he is still a broke college student... every thing will work it selfout hell i feel his procrastination is good for the skins because they will have more of a bargining chip when negotiations starts which = better cap friendly contract

in the nba they assign assistants to the younger players (HS to NBA tpes mainly), too help them transition... help them with budgetting, grocery shopping, scheduling etc to make sure they're self supportive and have some understanding of how to not go broke etc...

do nfl teams provide that? or do players have to ask NFLPA/seek help on their own? Not saying taylor needs it (college teaches most of those life skills pretty well), but wondering how it works there... is this what the whole rookie symposium is about? how to deal with life in the nfl (and agreements the league has in place)?
