Rumor: Redskins 1 Seen Fueling Up
Haha. Where will it go first? Who is the first one signed?
I think its going straight to Buffalo for two important defenders like we have all discussed in the previous weeks. I would expect announcements no later than Saturday on a couple signings. |

Re: Rumor: Redskins 1 Seen Fueling Up
Yeah Clements is gonna be hard to get and we certainly can't swing the cash to make him a day one signee. I would be surprised if we pulled the Clements move off. There's just so much money out there on other teams.

Re: Rumor: Redskins 1 Seen Fueling Up
On Rudolph, on Donner, on Comet, on Blitzen.........................can't wait!
|
Re: Rumor: Redskins 1 Seen Fueling Up
Any chance we can get Redskins 1 grounded for a day or two? Any aircraft mechanics want to make a few bucks by removing the pilot's seat? For the love of the Hogettes, please no first day signings this year!
|
Re: Rumor: Redskins 1 Seen Fueling Up
Some years we sign players within a few hours of the start of free agency and other years we wait an entire day or two before doing so.
|
Re: Rumor: Redskins 1 Seen Fueling Up
It would probably be a good idea to pounce early considering how crazy some of these free agent deals are going to be.
|
Re: Rumor: Redskins 1 Seen Fueling Up
Hopefully it's flying to Derrick Dockery's house.
Hopefully it's flying to Derrick Dockery's house.
On the real, he is still my #1 priority. I've all but ruled us out of signing Clements. I pretty much already have Fletcher in a Redskins uniform. Basically the only thing that is keeping my interest is who we release, and the Bly/Smoot situation. SMOOOOOOOOOOT. |
Re: Rumor: Redskins 1 Seen Fueling Up
I'd say Redskin One will first be going to Buffalo, with the next leg to Minnesota and possibly stopping by Detroit on the way home.
|
Re: Rumor: Redskins 1 Seen Fueling Up
Matty:
Who's to say that Danny Boy isn't going to be a major part of making this free-agent season "crazy". He's been known to do that, you recall... ;) |

You can cancel the Detroit trip unfortunately. |
Re: Rumor: Redskins 1 Seen Fueling Up
Where is it gonna go first Minnesota or Buffalo?
Smoot, and Harris.... or Fletcher and Clements? |
Re: Rumor: Redskins 1 Seen Fueling Up
I think it now goes to Buffalo then to Minnesota. Hell who knows, its going to be slim pickens this year.
|
Re: Rumor: Redskins 1 Seen Fueling Up
I think he'll be going to Buffalo and pick up London Fletcher-Baker-Jackson-Jenkins III. Then off to Minnesota to pick up The Smootyest of Smoots-Sir Smootavious-The Real Fred Smoot-Former #21-Smooty Flakes, SmootStacular- Fred Smoot. Then to the Bahamas to drop off Dockery's family while daddy goes to sign the contract and makes the money !

Re: Rumor: Redskins 1 Seen Fueling Up
It's my hope it leaves Fred Smoot behind on the runway. Concentrate on Clements and get the deal done. He's a much better player.
Smoot left here and promptly became a league laughing stock, and at last look lost his job to a rookie. No thanks. ~Bang |
Re: Rumor: Redskins 1 Seen Fueling Up
he played really well here, and we won't get clements...simply not enough bargaining power to compete with teams 20 million under the cap
|
Re: Rumor: Redskins 1 Seen Fueling Up
We need more than Smoot, Springs, Rogers...
For one, Smoot is rather injury prone and I really think we need to learn our lessons about corner depth from the past. We need depth at corner. |
Re: Rumor: Redskins 1 Seen Fueling Up
Welcome to the board Bang. I love your work...

Dont forget the best redskins defense in the past 5 years had a squad full of nobodys. Thats basically the D that created Fred Smoot, Antonio Pierce, Lemar Marshall, Ryan Clark, Walt Harris, and a few others. Its always funny to me how quickly Redskins fans forget things, Fred Smoot was great when he was here and then we lowballed him, the same way we low balled Pierce and Ryan Clark. We need to start saving money, eventually we will have to re-sign Taylor and Cooley and if we go after Clements that could prevent us from doing so, just my opinion though. |

We didn't low ball Pierce and Smoot. The contract structures were different because of our cap situation and the deals they took gave them more money early in the contract. Clark was simply not retained. I don't even know if we offered him did we? |

I'm of the belief that we can afford anything we want. Contracts can be very creative. As far as lowballing Smoot and Pierce,, Pierce only had one yr of starting under his belt and demanded too much. Smart move on the Fo's part, course, hindsight is always 20/20. Smoot went to Minnesota and promptly proved why he wasn't worth what he got, and we did the right thing in that case. I don't think that Smoot can cover any team's number one receiver. i say let him keep walking. And thank you Lady Brave. My usual haunts (no names mentioned) are getting way too crowded, and it's getting impossible to have any sort of intelligent discussion about Redskins football. Glad to be here. ~Bang |

We did low ball Pierce, I forgot that Smoots deal was front loaded. Pierce was Low balled and many sports writers in this area said so. Honestly, I dont think we did offer anything to Clark, you definately could be right about that one. With that said I would love to see us pick up Ken Hamlin, Dewayne White and Fred Smoot. We need to re-sign Dock, I just dont see how we can let him walk like this, it really kills me. |

I could go along with that, but I think MLB is a definite need.. unfortunately the best way to fill it is with an old man. Say,, I wonder if Cincy is tired of Odell Thurman yet? See,, we wrangle Odell away from Cincy, put a chain around his neck and lock him up until Sunday,, once a week throw 30 pounds of raw meat and a woman in his cage, and that would suit me just fine. ~Bang |

Damn, thats not bad at all. |
Re: Rumor: Redskins 1 Seen Fueling Up
Aren't Deon Grant and Ken Hamlin "in the box" safeties?
On a related note, I wonder whether agents are going to be reluctant to sign contracts early because there is so much uncertainty as to how much players' salaries should increase (sorta like the draft)? |

Trade the #6 and a conditional 2008 to Houston for the #8 and #39. Draft DE Anderson/Adams (one of them should be there) and CB Houston/Wilson. And keep Dockery, but at most give him a $12 million signing bonus and that's being generous oh and Russ Grimm for the Hall of Fame ;) |

That would be an excellent offseason as it would address every position of need (LG, DT, DE, MLB, and CB) and add both youth and leadership to the defense. |

In the end Smoot got offered a contract worth slightly less than the one he signed in Minny because they didn't want to pay him more than Springs and Pierce got an offer totaling exactly the same as the Giants offer. Our was simply backloaded. We did initially offer much less for Pierce but as others have said he had one good year at that point. In retrospect obviously it was a mistake to let him get away but we didn't low ball him and the decision at the time seemed to make sense. |

I think this would lay out as a serious impact off season without even the hint of the usual Redskins craziness. If we can pull something close to this off I'd be impressed. |
