Is Leonard Davis going to be a Redskin?
Yahoo and other sources have been saying that the Skins are looking hard at left tackel L.Davis who played last season for Arizona. Is this as back up or can he be moved to Dockery's spot? What do you all think of this?
|
Re: Is Leonard Davis going to be a Redskin?
i cant imagi ne a solid left tackle would be cheaper than a solid left guard. in fact i know davis would be more than dock. might as well just keep dock then.

Re: Is Leonard Davis going to be a Redskin?
5-6 million in signing bonus.

Good question. I think Dielman will command more money and probably deservedly so. But the gap won't be that big |
Re: Leonard Davis will be in today
Jason Lacanfora reported that Davis will be in to Redskin Park today or Saturday. So there maybe more to this then meets the eye. He also said that the Cowgirls are making a strong run at him!

They want to bring him in; not sure if he is in Dallas first, but the Skins are pushing for him. Sounds like the Dockery thing is not panning out perhaps. Just got off the phone with someone very close to the situation. Davis in indeed in another city as we speak - Dallas I believe- but I heard there is a "75-80 percent" chance he could be in Washington soon. The Redskins are indeed his next free agent visit destination, if in fact he makes another trip. I hear his agents are talking to 4-5 teams and fielding lots of calls, so it's possible he signs with another team while still on this first visit. As for other O Line stuff. I hear nothing new between the Skins and Todd Wade lately and, considering what it would take to sign Dock or Davis, they probably won't be able to do much there. Dockery has been working out in Atlanta, and I was told he is currently in Buffalo. Again, not looking good for a re-sign there, but never say never with the Skins. Also, Ladell Betts said he has been told nothing about being dealt, but realizes some rumors persist. Said he speaks to his agents daily and they have never mentioned anything, but I also hear that the jets and Broncos have some serious interest in him. Stay tuned. |
Re: Is Leonard Davis going to be a Redskin?
This does make much sense to me. Like RedskinPete said before, would he move to guard or be a backup? Is it possible that they would ask Jansen to move inside?

Re: Is Leonard Davis going to be a Redskin?
Seems a little far-fetched to sign a LT to either start in a guard's spot or to provide depth, when we need so much on defense. At the same time maybe the coaching staff knows something that we don't. Keeping my fingers crossed that IF we do sign him, it doesn't blow up in our faces

That is two moves on the line and it's better to just keep Dockery or replace him!

Re: Is Leonard Davis going to be a Redskin?
I believe that Davis would move in to guard (he has past experience at the position). Looks to be a backup plan if dock can't be re-signed. Jansen would remain at tackle though.

He is leaning towards the Boys. But the Boys wanted him to move inside and his agent said Davis wouldn't be for that. The Giants are not that much in the mix because he would't like being under Tom C so that leaves the Skins. If he don't wanted to move inside why would the Redskins needed him except as back up?

Link please. We have no intentions of playing him at tackle. We're thinking of making him a G. |
Re: Is Leonard Davis going to be a Redskin?
Leonard Davis is known around the league as a guy who has never played up to his potential. He was the second pick in the draft, I believe in 2001 behind Michael Vick. He was supposed to be amazing, and he is nothing but an under achiever. I really hope the Skins do not pick him up, he does not deserve a big pay check, the only reason he will get one is because of the lack of talent in the FA market in general this year. They need to do whatever it takes to resign Dock.
|
Re: Is Leonard Davis going to be a Redskin?
While moving Jansen inside might not be ideal and he might balk at it, I don't think it would be horrible. Jansen is still a decent run-blocker and tends to get beat by faster DEs who can get around the edge.
|
Re: Is Leonard Davis going to be a Redskin?
he never panned out, so he is exactly the type of guy we sign. the only good he would do here is line depth
|

He didn't pan out as the #2 pick, but he's still a darn good O-lineman. |
Re: Is Leonard Davis going to be a Redskin?
you dont think bugel is licking his chops with this guy's potential? he's always been known to get the most out of his lineman. if we could get him at a reasonable price, i bet bugel could make this guy a pro-bowler.
|
Re: Is Leonard Davis going to be a Redskin?
Davis is a solid left tackle. I can't see him being any cheaper or better than Dock. He clearly isn't better than Samuels. I guess maybe Jansen could swing inside but I don't think Jon would like that too much. This doesn't make much sense to me. Unless they just think that Davis can be had at a similar price to Dock and that he'd be better. Is this another case of "he's replaceable"? I hope not. They need to be mighty convinced that Davis is better in my opinion.

He is a top 15 left tackle. Maybe top 10. Probably like 12th. He is decent and given his size might be a incredible road grader in the middle. I can't see him pulling much though. He's so damn big. He makes Dock look like a puffin. |
Re: Is Leonard Davis going to be a Redskin?
I would rather just resign Dock.
|
Re: Is Leonard Davis going to be a Redskin?
If they cost the same, resign Dock for any number of reasons.
The only way I sign Davis is if he is asking SIGNIFICANTLY less than Dock AND Dock is asking for a prohibitive amount (15M+). |
Re: Is Leonard Davis going to be a Redskin?
If we start inserting new players & moving others around on the line, it could set the offense back after they just started to his stride late last year. This is not the season to make major adjustments IMO. If we can't resign dock, get another guard who will take his place, draft or f. agency.
|
Re: Is Leonard Davis going to be a Redskin?
I'd rather have Doc, too. But if they could convince Davis to move inside he would give us a lot of flexibility if if a tackle were to get hurt during the season (heaven forbid).
|
Re: Is Leonard Davis going to be a Redskin?
This is exactly what the Redskins do...they always try to outsmart themselves. Lets sign him and move Jansen here and then put him here...how about just signing Dock and keeping the f-in line in tact! They never win becasue they are constantly in flux!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When Davis came into the league he played guard. I am 100% in favor of this. He has the versatility to play both postions. If we give him enough green he would play tackling dummy. He has been labeled as an underachiever but that is because he was a top 5 pick. Here he would be the #5 lineman. I don't know who has seen the highlight of him literally picking up a blitzer and chokeslamming him but it is one of the most viscous moves I have ever seen by an O-lineman. |
Re: Is Leonard Davis going to be a Redskin?
Of course we will pay davis he wasnt drafted by the skins. Thats why dock going to leave. Danny cant sell dock jershey but davis is a new guy, so you can sell new jersheys.

That's a great point. Danny's definitely all about signing new players, not keeping current ones. That's why we didn't re-sign Jansen, Betts, Sellers, Thomas, and Fox....oh wait |
Re: Is Leonard Davis going to be a Redskin?
well lets see him keep dock. Sorry because he signs a few players this year, doesnt change the fact since 2000 we let our so call core players leave that a fact. keep pierce we wouldnt need London who older n slower than pierce, kept smoot we would have wasted a pick on rogers we would have merrieman or ware that would fill our void for a pass rusher. Paid Bailey what he wanted we wouldnt had to pay springs who cant get on the field because he hurt all the time. Listen Jansen on the downside, fox is just a backup, betts can start on other teams. Thomas is starting getting older and seller is a beast. Dock will leave then we will have to pay out of the butt for someother FA to learn the system and hope to protect Campbell. Also thank god we keep Brunell i can sleep better. So if i upset you but calling out your dad Danny,

Re: Is Leonard Davis going to be a Redskin?
It's funny what a year dose to many of your views towards Dockery. Many here wanted him out...he wasn't getting it done. Then part of 05 and and 06 season he comes around. Even back then I had Dock's back. But even as the Redskins stayed with him during the rough days it dosen't mean a thing now. It is all about money and caps. So that said is he worth paying the cash vs someone else? That is what matters to us as Redskin fans. Because lets face it he is not thinking about us he is thinking about himself and his family! So if he gose and we up grade that is fine with me!!!

Don't take this wrong way but you didn't upset me. You couldn't because I couldn't care less about you. So no worries there. Pierce, I agree it would have been nice to keep him Smoot, we're probably going to get a pretty decent deal for him I imagine. Had we paid him what he was looking for a couple of years ago we might not be in a position to make some of the other moves we've subsequently made Bailey, sometimes it's about more than the money Springs, enough people here have explained that this whole injury bug thing is greatly exaggerated |

You and matty seem to care for me deeply. Everytime i say something you guy jump in real quick. So thanks. Sorry i dont follow the company line.

I think a lot of people around here are a little too testy today. And Taf, I'm glad to see someone else write "I couldn't care less..." as opposed to "I could care less..."
Once again, I would take just about any decent guard over Dockery if it means that we don't have to pay Dock the kind of money that the Bills did. |

I think the Redskins saw that that was the best Dockery was going to be. Face it there is no more up side. So now we need to fill the spot. Better a guard then a tackle!!! |
Re: Is Leonard Davis going to be a Redskin?
could be a good pickup if we don't overpay for him. Bugel can work his magic on him too. I beleive he played his first 3 years as a guard. Maybe shift him over to replace Jansen when he gets old.

Re: Is Leonard Davis going to be a Redskin?
I think honestly we could not afford Dock. If we get Davis Here he will sign with us. That would be an upgrade at gaurd if he is brought here

You're gonna get your chance. Leonard Davis has left Dallas. I doubt he leaves Washington without signing. |
