Re: Texans Reportedly Close to Deal fo Schaub
Would be a GREAT choice for them. I wonder if they'll try to trade down and grab CJ.

Re: Texans Reportedly Close to Deal fo Schaub
Falcons trade Matt Schuab to Texans for 2nd round pick just reported on NFL Network
|
Re: Texans Reportedly Close to Deal fo Schaub
Nice. The Falcons may dread the day they let this kid go.
On another note: If CJ is there at 6, I guarantee the Skins take him and keep him. |

Thanks. So much for my hope of getting the Texans' 2nd round pick |
Re: Texans Reportedly Close to Deal fo Schaub
Atlanta has the ammo to trade up now. Their number ten pick and two high seconds could get them Calvin Johnson at #4 maybe. Or they could give us one of those second rounders and move to #6. That would be fine with me.
Would be a GREAT choice for them. I wonder if they'll try to trade down and grab CJ.
The Texans or the Falcons?
I'm sure either team would love CJ, but I would think the Texans might feel like they have more pressing needs than another big, physical receiver since they already have Andre Johnson. As for the Falcons, wouldn't they just love to finally give Vick someone really capable to throw the ball to? Plus, the fact that he went to GTech has got to be a huge bonus for them. I guess they could get him with the #2 pick if they traded it to the Lions for the #10 and a second rounder. |

People always say he's a stud receiver away from turning the Falcons into a serious contender. But he's always had a top rushing game behind him and usually one of the better defenses in the league. So what gives? |

If you trade up that far you have to pay a hefty price. I would go after CJ if I were Atlanta. That would be so sick. Even though I think Vick is a bum. |
Re: Texans Reportedly Close to Deal fo Schaub
i think that schaub is valued too high, he hasnt proven much in the nfl and i think theres a good chance he could be a big dissapointment
|
Re: Texans Reportedly Close to Deal fo Schaub
I still don't quite understand the fascination with Matt Schaub. The guy has started two games in his career. Granted, he's shown some flashes, but his career TD to INT ratio is 1:1 and his lifetime passer rating is 69.2. Can anyone say AJ Feeley?
|
Re: Texans Reportedly Close to Deal fo Schaub
I think the fascination is simply because he's been backing up a QB preordained to be the NFL's savior who hasn't lived up to it. And with Vick struggling, who is more popular than his backup? I don't know why, but I think Jake Delhomme when I think of Schaub

AJ Feeley. Hey, that wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. |

No doubt we have greater needs, I agee with you there. But Calvin Johnson is, I hate to say can't miss, close as it gets. We can find a DT either in the draft or FA or coach up what we have. A Calvin Johnson won't be next years draft or the year after. |
Re: Texans Reportedly Close to Deal fo Schaub
on the pro level, who do you think he compares with?
|
Re: Texans Reportedly Close to Deal fo Schaub
Can someone tell me what Matt Schaub has done in the NFL besides play well in pre season? I know he filled in for Vick a few games and played well. But to apparently trade away Carr and give this guy the job is so stupid. I guess that's why the Texans are the Texans.

Re: Texans Reportedly Close to Deal fo Schaub
PFT is reporting that the Falcons got 2 2nd round picks and a switch from the 10th pick to the 8th in rnd 1.

That is a rapage then. Schaub, who I think could be very good, has done nothing. If that is what they got then they absolutely should go to jail for highway robbery. Sounds like a deal we'd make. |

Honestly, I would say Jerry Rice. I'm not saying he's that right here, right now. But from what I've seen of him, heard of him, he's got it. |

Kinda hard to compare this kid with anyone for me....haven't seen much from him yet, in the shadow of vick?? He had a really good college stint in Va. However, if they get this guy I really think he's gonna be just fine or BETTER. Good Move. |

The hype machine gets going and the No. 1 receiver prospect becomes the greatest thing since sliced bread. We won't need the top WR next year either. |

But to apparently trade away Carr and give this guy the job is so stupid. I guess that's why the Texans are the Texans.
Well, the Texans know what they have in Carr. They have a guy who as he gets into his veteran years, could be a very good care taker. Carr got really unlucky last year getting picked off 12 times while completing 69% of his passes. If he completes 69% again, he's only going to be picked 6 times next year.
But Kubiak is a QB coach, and it doesn't shock me in the slightest that he went out and got Schaub. I'm just wondering why you'd do this trade right now if you're Houston. Why not wait until after the draft and see if Brady Quinn falls to us at 6 so you can make that deal for only one second rounder as opposed to two and get a QB with a much better College resume than Schaub? Schaub will probably be good in Houston, and probably better than Carr, but with all the data we have on QBs these days, I'm not sure I'd trade two seconds and a first round swap for a probable QB when I can get a sure thing cheaper. |
Re: Texans Reportedly Close to Deal fo Schaub
For every Calvin Johnson, I think there will be two or three Alan Branch's.
I actually think it's the other way around, but that's cause I don't feel any reason to annoint Johnson the savior just yet. But usually 4-5 receivers carry a legit first round grade, whereas only 1-2 defensive tackles do each year.
I think it's safe to say Johnson is a cut above the average 1st round receiver, but in the grand scheme of things, if you were to give yourself Johnson, and me Robert Meachem or someone, we'd have similar prospects as far as contributing to a team full of veterans. Your prospect would likely be "better", technically, but I wouldn't worry about it too much. Too many other important factors go into building a team for me to worry about the difference between Robert Meachem and Calvin Johnson. |
Re: Texans Reportedly Close to Deal fo Schaub
The real once in a lifetime prospect in this draft is Okoye. Dude's a 19 year old with 4 years of college experience. That may never happen again. He's good. Real good. I want him. I'd take him over Johnson 100 times out of 100.

I think the Falcons traded the wrong QB.

Re: Texans Reportedly Close to Deal fo Schaub
Atlanta got a great deal. Two second round picks and a switch from ten to eight in this years first round. Schaub better be good.

Unfortunately that's the type of mentality our front office has of picking for need as if we're one player away. Take the best player available, especially if he is as can't miss as Johnson. No way anyone can think that he wouldn't be an upgrade over Lloyd and Thrash.. Moss is set at #1 and Randle-El is a strong #3, if Johnson falls we'd be FOOLS not to pick him. |
Re: Texans Reportedly Close to Deal fo Schaub
Well this kills the possibility of us getting CJ.I am pretty sure Alt is going to move up to get him now. They have the picks to do it thats for sure.I expect to see Alt move up to #2.All they have to do is flop picks with Detroit throw in a 2nd rounder this year and one next year.

What if Oakland gets David Carr and then decides to draft CJ? Who would the Lions get with the 8th pick? Brady Quinn likely wouldn't be there. JaMarcus Russell wouldn't be there and neither would Joe Thomas or Adrian Peterson. It's gonna be interesting to see how this plays out- and affects the Skins... |

Well I don't know how good Johnson will turn out to be, it does seem clear that he is generating a level of hype that I havent seen for a receiver in the draft in quite some time. I mean, the consensus on him is really really strong. |

So much for the theory that the Texans were dying to switch first rounders with us to get Brady Quinn.

This has Rob Johnson written all over it. |
Re: Texans Reportedly Close to Deal fo Schaub
This has Rob Johnson written all over it.
Well, there are a lot of differences between Rob Johnson and Matt Schaub. I don't think that was a good comparison.
Schaub completed 67% of his passes in 32 starts at Virginia. That's very good. However, he wasn't espicially highly sought after coming out of college. We can either say: 1. The scouts were wrong. They simply overlooked this guy. OR 2. Schaub's stats are a product of his college system. I'd put my money on the former. Al Groh hasn't exactly pumped out QBs since Schaub left. Schaub can be very good, and I'm almost certain he will represent an improvement over Carr. But he's NOT a sure thing because of his draft position. He's got a lot of stuff to prove to the scouts who didn't give him a top two round grade. Rob Johnson, on the other hand, was a talentless QB. Everyone knew that but Wade Phillips. |
Re: Falcons Trade Matt Schaub to Houston
So much for the theory that the Texans were dying to switch first rounders with us to get Brady Quinn.
Well, now the Falcons sit at 8. Okoye played for Petrino at Louisville, so I'm betting that we're going to have to stay ahead of them to get him.
