Trent Green to Fins Imminent, Daunte Out? Week 1 Interesting
If Trent Green ends up in Miami, we all know of his ties with Al Saunders. Week 1, should really be a treat!

Re: Trent Green to Fins Eminent, Daunte Out? Week 1 Interesting
I can't believe how far downhill Culpepper's career has gone after Randy Moss was traded. If Culpepper was released, I think Al Davis would go after him and just shut down any plans he had to trade Moss. That would have draft implications too, if they got Culpepper then they might not take Russell and instead take Johnson. They still need to work on that offensive line though lol.

I agree. Just a few years ago this guy threw nearly 40 TDs. I wonder if he'll ever be a quality starter in this league again. It's a shame. |
Re: Trent Green to Fins Eminent, Daunte Out? Week 1 Interesting
don't forget that injury. it was devastating for him and its a shame
Culpeppers problem was always that he held onto the ball too long if a receiver wasnt open. This led to a huge sacking and fumbling problem for him. Too bad though he has the physical pedigree similar to jamarcus russell, but is probably done for. Wonder how russell will pan out |
Re: Trent Green to Fins Eminent, Daunte Out? Week 1 Interesting
it doesn't matter what happens with the Dolphins QB situation they have Gibran Hamdan waiting in the wings he's do to breakout lol

It's crazy isn't it? The guy had one of the best seasons in the history of the NFL as far as QB's go back in 04. But what I don't understand is why would Miami cut him? Trent Green is 37 coming off a bad season in which he was also hurt. It makes no sense to me. I would keep both guys around. But I guess the keeping both Culpepper and Green would be a lot of $. |

From what I understand they don't ever think his knees will fully recover again. Proubally right....and they shelled out major cash for Daunte, and I think it's pretty clear he will never be the same QB he once was. Trent Green on the other hand has also had a solid career but at his age, and also the consussion problem's.......I guess they feel they have a better chance of winning with Green in the short term. If I had to choose between the two I would certainly choose Green for a short term QB. |
Re: Trent Green to Fins Eminent, Daunte Out? Week 1 Interesting
If the Raiders pick up Culpepper I still think that the Raiders should draft Russel. D C is not a long term answer for that team, and they still have no depth at QB. They need Russell no matter what they have by the draft.

I know they traded a 2nd round pick to Vikings for him, and I think Culpepper actually reworked his contract to help Miami stay under the cap. Nonetheless, he certainly hasn't panned out for the Dolphins. I feel bad for Culpepper. It's a shame when an injury ruins a career as solid as his was. |
Re: Trent Green to Fins Eminent, Daunte Out? Week 1 Interesting
i think his injury was more of a factor then losing randy moss. your legs are used alot more when you throw, more then most people realize

Not bad for a backup, from what I understand, the deal "COULD" have been in the neighborhood of 50 Mil over the length of contract. Re: Trent Green to Fins Imminent, Daunte Out? Week 1 Interesting
Trent Green is the last guy I want going to the team we face first this season. He will have plenty of time to break down Al Saunders offense for the new Florida coach. Not the extra edge I'd like them to have. That team has plenty of talent on defense already.

Not to mention Trent Green and new Miami head coach Cam Cameron worked together here in Washington back in the mid-90's. They know each other, and Green knows Saunders. |

Yep! Trent knows that Al Saunders play book like the back of his hand. |
Re: Trent Green to Fins Imminent, Daunte Out? Week 1 Interesting
It is interesting how the main reason this deal is working out is because Green has KC by the balls. They need to get some cap room and restructure his contract but he will basically refuse if he isn't trade to Miami. So basically KC has to trade him, otherwise take a cap hit and have a player who does not want to be there.

Assuming Culpepper comes back healthy: 1. Take JaMarcus Russell with the first overall pick, and keep him as Culpepper's backup as long as he's (Culpepper) playing above average football, because Culpepper healthy is simply a better player than JaMarcus Russell is ever going to be. 2. Take Brady Quinn with the first pick and use Culpepper to keep the seat warm while Quinn learns the nuiances of the NFL in practice. 3. Take Calvin Johnson with the 1st overall pick. Essentially eliminate the role of Ronald Curry from the offense, a very underrated player in his prime. Slowly force either Porter or Moss out of the offense despite huge freakin contracts, and the fact that Moss may be a much happier player as long as Culpepper is the QB. 4. Trade down to try to draft Joe Thomas, or just take Thomas at 1 overall. None of these are really good choices. But they are ALL better (maybe exception to #3) than the most likely option, that the Raiders take Russell to be their QB of the future at No. 1. Who knows what they are going to do. |

DC is not the answer. |

But then again, the Raiders decision should be easy...just take Brady Quinn at the first pick overall (or trade down). I mean...you earned the first pick, why would you pass up the sure thing at QB for the guy who might succeed under perfect conditions? Then again, I don't understand a lot of the things Oakland does, but they have built a strong defense and simply are a QB and an OLine away from being a perennial playoff contender. It's too bad they don't seem on their way to solving either of those problems. Russell is not the solution the Raiders are looking for. |
Re: Trent Green to Fins Imminent, Daunte Out? Week 1 Interesting
Theres zero doubt in sabremetric circles that, barring injury, Quinn will be a much better QB than Russell. You really just have a bunch of old, arm horny scouts altering the perception of millions. I just don't get sucked into that hype anymore.

"Earned the first pick" That just sounds odd |
Re: Trent Green to Fins Imminent, Daunte Out? Week 1 Interesting
It should have been they gave up first on the year to get that #1 pick. Randy Moss disease, well done.
Pretty bad when Detroit isn't the first to throw the Matt Millen Towel in for that #1 pick....... |
Re: Trent Green to Fins Imminent, Daunte Out? Week 1 Interesting
I am tired of listening to the dolphins continuously changing QB's and expecing success. Green may be the worst possible fit for Miami, because he is near retirement, getting worse as the days move along, and the dolphins have a #4 pick in the draft. BradyQuinn perhaps?

Green is much better than what they have now in Daunte. Draft a QB with the plan of Green being the guy for 2 years, give the young rookie time to learn the system and they should be in pretty good shape from a QB stand point......for once, since Marino? There Defense is in great shape. They lack very few parts to being a really good team. |

Why is everyone so convinced that Green will do better? Remember that Culpepper has had more time to recover. I say that you cannot name a starter without giving them both a chance. That is if Miami gets Green. But, then you have to wonder. If old age catches up to Green and Daunte starts performing well, did Miami waste money on bringing in Green? Of coarse that is if they do. |

Green is slowly regressing. Culpepper is right in his prime. Unless Miami knows something about his health that no other team does, I really don't understand this move. |

Just ignore hype, and things like rings, and just look at a guys production over his career. Culpepper can get it done in this league. So can Green. One is only 30 and a better player, assuming he ever plays again.

I am about to contrdict myself for a brief moment. One big difference between Green and Culpepper is that Green has done it without a stellar WR. Culpepper hasn't done it without Moss yet. |

Culpepper hasn't been healthy enough to throw the football very well...but certainly he would have been a better option for Miami than Harrington--and a better option for Minnesota than Brad Johnson.

Yes, and that brings us full circle as to why is Miami even considering this move in the first place. This is worse than when we brought in Brunell and we already had Ramsey. I still feel that he got shafted, Gibbs's decision or not. |

He certainly got shafted here and elsewhere, but I'm not that concerned about it. We are a better team for it. Ramsey probably deserves a starting job somewhere though. Just not on a good team. |

Yea most people rember last year also. His so called come back year that didn't quite work out. Your not going to have any competion at QB if they bring Green in, because Daute will not be there to compete. If you think DC is in his prime with his knee proublems you might be confused. These type of knee injuries have ended many NFL careers. IMO, I would take my chances with Green over DC anyday. |
Re: Trent Green to Fins Imminent, Daunte Out? Week 1 Interesting
If the fins get Green that eliminates a possible trading prospect from the skins in the draft. Without Green it is possible for the Dolphins to trade up to try and get Quinn. Either way I think Duante is out.

Don't know if I agree with that. If you believe Ramsey was destined to be a solid franchise quarterback, then yes, Campbell might not have been considered. But then, if we had that solid, franchise quarterback in Ramsey, then we wouldn't have needed Campbell, right? If we can kick back for a second and play the "we should have done it THIS way" game, then I think Gibbs should have taken a calm, measured approach to the roster when he came back to the Redskins in January 2004. Why couldn't he have given Ramsey one complete year under his tutelage to learn Gibbs' offense, and see how things played out? The answer of course, is that Gibbs saw something in the films of Ramsey that turned him off. And judging by Ramsey's success since he was traded, it looks like Gibbs was right. So I think it would be fair to say that unless Ramsey tore it up in 2004, Campbell would still have been drafted a year later. Hell, even if he did tear it up, Gibbs might have selected Campbell anyway as his quarterback project for the future. |
