Re: Johnson,Adams, & Okoye admit to lighting up in combine interviews.
Is this even a story? Who hasn't tried pot? Has anybody ever tried alcohol?? Cause you can sure make the argument that alcohol is worse than pot! I'm actually impressed they admitted to it.

Here we go again with the whole Legalize it thread.
I just think it funny that its the players that most of the fans on this site want to see us draft. |

So I guess smoking pot = intelligence! hahaha People need to stop thinking that smoking pot is so darn bad. Stop generalizing and acting out of fear. It's not as bad as people think it is. I'm glad they were honest. Unlike Bill Clinton, I lost any shred of respect I had for him when he claimed "I did not inhale". Why not? So you either telling me you are too stupid to know how to inhale, or you are wasting someone's weed. Either way, you're an idiot. I can respect someone that has tried something and speaks out of experience. I can't respect someone that talks out of fear. |

No problem...I can respect that. It's not for everyone, I understand that. But for others there are a ton of positives that outweigh the negatives that no one can understand but that person. |

Re: Johnson,Adams, & Okoye admit to lighting up in combine interviews.
Remember when Warren Sapp's draft stock fell because he failed a test for marijuana? He had an okay career right? If someone beats their girlfriend or sneaks into a strangers dorm room and takes a dump in her closet, that's something you have to worry about, but some admitting to having tried marijuana? Big deal.

Shouldn't we? These are three of the guys we want most, right? Last I checked, marijuana is still illegal and its use is not allowed by the NFL. Now I'll skip the whole legalizing marijuana issue for now and get right to the heart of why this matters. Suppose we spend a 6th overall pick on one of these guys. That's a pretty big investment both in money and opportunity (at least, you certainly would hope that the number of high first round picks we get should not come along too often). So we pick one of these guys and he fails a urinalysis. That's 4 games we are without a player who had better be a starter if he's being picked 6 overall. I mean, we are all chopping at the bit to get one of these guys to fill a hole on our team. So doing without them for 4 games could easily make the difference between making the playoffs or not. Now let's take it even further. They get tapped a second time and we lose them for the year. They still don't learn their lesson?......we've got Ricky Williams. Do you think the Dolphins care about his marijuana use? I'm just saying, whether you think it's right or wrong doesn't really matter. The real concern for teams should be making sure their "use" isn't a continued use and that it was just a college thing, or a frat thing, or some other immature reason that is long past. If it's an addiction, then you're talking about spending a high draft pick and millions of cap room on a player that can't take the field when he fails a drug test. |

One thing for sure is that the habitual use of marijuana should certainly be viewed as a character issue in league circles. But, this admittence alone should not be enough to make us change our mind on any of these prospects. |

Re: Johnson,Adams, & Okoye admit to lighting up in combine interviews.
Let's make it clear they admitted to having used it, they didn't admit to being active users.
There's a big difference. If they are tested, which I'm sure they probably are at some point prior to the draft and they are clean, no harm, no foul. At least they were honest. |

Re: Johnson,Adams, & Okoye admit to lighting up in combine interviews.
Pat Kirwan said that this will do nothing to their draft stock. Says that it's seen as a sign of maturity that they fessed up to it.

Re: Johnson,Adams, & Okoye admit to lighting up in combine interviews.
Who hasn't tried it at least once. These guys in the NFL go to clubs and parties all the time. I'm sure Portis, Moss, Cooley, and Gibbs is toking one up at Redskins park right now. This will not affect these kids especially with all the drama in the NFL right now. People are doing alot worse things that are criminal and getting away with it.

It is illegal like it or not, that also applies in the NFL. With these personal conduct issues or the cracking down on them, you can bet organization's that still have a few brain cells left that will be paying big dollars for these picks, will be looking deeper into these type issues. |

I have never tried it. I've been around it at many parties and smaller social gatherings but never felt the urge/need to indulge. I agree with most people that if they have tried it and are definitely NOT current users nor have they been for some time, then I have no problem. |

It simply said that they have admitted that they have "used" marijuana. That's a pretty vague term if you ask me. My only point was that such a statement would, to me, signal a need for further research and/or additional questions regarding the extent of that use. I'm only saying that teams should care because of the potential impact on the team if it becomes a problem (as opposed to what everyone else on this thread is trying to turn the issue into: i.e. whether the moral police should condone the use of marijuana or not......that's not the issue). I also applaud their honesty. And no, I've never tried it and I have no reason to. |
Re: Johnson,Adams, & Okoye admit to lighting up in combine interviews.
I personally think alcohol abuse is way worse than marijuana abuse, but the bottom line is testing positive for pot will get you suspended. That'll alienate their teammates, and piss off the fans and the FO of whatever team they play for. But I say good for them for being honest. As long as it's not a regular thing to where it would show up in a piss test, then more power to 'em.

Re: Johnson,Adams, & Okoye admit to lighting up in combine interviews.
They must be clean... I heard on Cowherd's show today that the NFL does a piss test at the Combine.
