Since we are trading down.......
 

Since the general opinion is we should trade down because of multiple needs; who do we trade to, who are we targeting, and what will we receive in return?


I say to around 15th but I have no idea about a target, or receipt in return.

Okoye seems to be on the rise, with Anderson, and Adams. HailRedskins.com has the best Mock Draft forum bar none!

I think we've touched on this in a lot of different threads. But I think it makes most sense to target 8, 9, or 10. Atlanta might want to trade up and get Okoye or Landry. The Dolphins might want to trade up and get Brady Quinn if he's there. And the Texans could be willing to jump on the chance to grab Adrian Peterson if he's there (though I think they're more likely to sit tight and wait for Levi Brown at 10).

In these trade scenarios, we're only sliding down a few spots so we're still likely to get Okoye, Landry, or Jamaal Anderson. We'd pick up a 2nd or 3rd rounder in the process, which would be helpful in finding a starting G.

As a side note, I'm surprised that people seem to be going south on Jamaal Anderson. I have no idea why that is, he's still regarded as one of the top DEs available. You can dispute Carriker vs Anderson, I can see either one. But some people have Anderson dropping like a rock which makes no sense to me.

He hasn't had a chance to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he's even an NFL talent. It's not hard to put together a good season if the cards fall right, but it takes a real prospect to repeat that success.

We have no idea into which category he falls, and frankly, that scares me and probably many around the league regarding him.

Not according to Peter King. Say what you want about his opinions, but his insider work is top notch.

I think moving down a few spots is good maybe we could pick up a veteran in the process or ,ore importamtly picks. Laron Landry is gonna be another ed Reed or Troy polamalu.

to me, the worst part about the draft is the so called experts that put way too much into the combine workout. sure, its great so and so can bench press 225 a gazillion times. but can he play? every time i hear someone talking about the great workout someone had, mike mumulas name pops into my head. guy couldn't play football, but could work out. almost the same with A.A.

Just want to make sure the info I'm forming my perceptions off of is accurate. After all, if what I'm saying is correct, then all PK is stating is an opinion anyway.

Yeah I'll grant you it's one year. But Adams has questions about his size, Carriker has questions about having enough speed and quickness to get around the edge, and Anderson has questions about only having one year as his body of work.

I can see an argument for any of the 3 as the best, I just can't see why anyone thinks Anderson should be dropping like a rock.

And that wasn't really King's opinion. He was stating the fact that 3 or 4 teams that he talked to rank Anderson higher than Adams. So it's a reflection of the opinions of NFL teams.

Yeah I'm totally with you here. I don't care about combine workouts, they're nearly a complete waste of time. I care about how the guy played, how he looks on film.

trading down to atlanta, miami or houston makes a lot of sense because we still get what we need. I saw on a website that Landry could bench 425 pounds that is pretty impresive for a safety. Landry and Taylor would make a awesome tandem at safety.

true but adams started more years and has the moto and the strength (although he could stand to put on about 15 pounds of muscle and not lose any speed) but adams is in that jason taylor mold where as anderson is a boom or bust like alan branch which is why his stock is dropping

say no to anderson and branch when you step in the polls

say yes to okoye 2007 or landry 2007

hell yes he can he is the perfect compliment to taylor plus he can hit he runs a 4.35 so he wont get beat by jason witten and he is a ballhawk just like reggie nelson only he can tackle better faster and covers just as well if not better

trust me huge lsu fan huge watched everyone one of his games from his freshman year till now and he is a monster and we wouldnt have a huge d line problem if we just signed ian scott (sorry to beat a dead horse) and use the 5th 2 6 rounders and the 7th rounder on d line we could find a mark anderson like last year or an aaron schobel you build your team in the later rounder not the first 2 from 3 to 7 thats where the sleepers are

if we trade down take Alan Branch, then take Josh Wilson in the 2nd. A gaurd later in the draft

I'd trade down as far as possible to acquire more picks. We need young blood on defense and there are going to be quality players late in the first round.

For a team that finished the season 5-11 with multiple positions that could use an upgrade, I would agree that trading down to recoup a couple of those DP we so generously gave away may not be a bad idea. However, it's important in whatever draft day decisions are made, we come away with a starting caliber player. It would not be wise to relinquish that position and not do so.

Adams had the strength in college, but does he have the strength to hold up against the run in the NFL? And it's a pretty big assumption to figure he can put on 15 pounds AND not lose any speed.

All I'm saying is that all 3 of the top DEs (Adams, Anderson, Carriker) have questions. You can make a case that any one of them are the best.

Besides, we have Andre Carter on one side who is already in the smaller, speed rusher mold. Drafting Adams would be duplicative for us.

I can agree with you on your top two preferences though; Okoye would be my #1 choice by far, and if we ended up with Landry I wouldn't be disappointed.

I have to say that Carter was actually more of an asset in run support later in the season than Daniels. He was racking up loads of tackles, many for losses.

I totally agree, the sinking of Alan Branch doesn't make a lot of sense to me. He was a dominant player against big time competition this past year. I like Okoye better because of the upside, but these people that think Branch should fall way down to 25 or 30 are taking the bad workout thing way too far.

I would like to see us draft LL if we stay at 6. His cover skills will help make our D Line better, especially since since we are a stop the run first Defense. Slide ST up in the box to create some havoc.

He's not great value in the top half of the round, but we certainly could use him.

if he falls I say we trade down and take him. he reminds me of Terrell Suggs who slipped in the draft and the ravens picked him up he became a beast...

not to mention the effect of haloti ngata on ray lewis's career

This is the best thread ever! So many LL boosters! Where have you been all my life? It's like you all popped out of the woodwork! It makes so much sense to go after LL if we stay at six. It gets my heart pumping just thinking about it.

So according to this thread and other sources:

There are major question marks about the top DL, really young (Okoye), lazy and inconsistent (Branch), too small (Adams), too slow (Carriker), inexperienced (Anderson).

Here are the question marks about Landry:

First year starter? Career probowler? Hall of Famer?

Umm. It seems obvious to me. Thank God I found some company not on extremeskins.

Landry or Okoye at six- or seven or eight if we're lucky. Or trade down to 9-14 and take a question marker with a second round insurance policy.

even if Landry is the second coming of Ronnie Lott, it still makes no sense to take him. he will have about 100 tackles, all 10-15 yards past the line of scrimmage. what good does that do anyone?

Here's something to take solace in for the people who are afraid of Landry...

While Okoye is my top pick, I wouldn't be the least bit sad with having a safety of Landry's dimensions on the roster. Griffin should be totally healthy next year, Fletcher will hold down the middle far better than Marshall. We KNOW we'll have a great LB at weakside no matter what because either Rocky is good enough to supplant Marshall OR Marshall is beast at WLB much like he was in 2004 and 2005.

How many times was Archuleta or one of the other scabs scorched in the secondary? A LOT. Now with PP coming back AND possibly the drafting of Landry, don't worry about runs up the middle. Sure, I still think we need to go DT, but don't be upset if we get Landry. He's without a doubt one of the best safety picks since Sean Taylor.

Next year? Well, perhaps not much. But what about in two or three years when we have an NFL caliber d-line? Just picture us down the road with a good DL, and LL and ST patrolling the middle of the field. That's the real payoff. You can't get both this year, so you go for the best one that's available. That would be LL, by far.

when this draft is so deep with defensive linemen, why wait? it seems like good safety's are easier to come by then quality defensive linemen
