Meriweather vs Landry
Stay at 6 or trade down get someone else in addition to Meriweather... Meriweather is also great in coverage and went to the U, discuss...
I know portis would trade down to get Meriweather! discuss |
Re: Meriweather vs Landry
i dont even think there should be a discussion about this I would take landry in a second we dont need any more miami players and there is a reason why portis is the RB and not the GM
|
Re: Meriweather vs Landry
Doesn't Meriweather have a bunch of "character" issues? I love Sean Taylor, but it's hard enough making sure he keeps in line. We don't need to add Meriweather to that
If we have to take a safety, I'd say trade down and take Michael Griffin |
Re: Meriweather vs Landry
enough already

Re: Meriweather vs Landry
When did Portis or his percieved thoughts become relevant to our first round pick?
Portis is the feature back not Danny's puppet aka GM. |

Glad someone is. Cause I've heard some seriously crazy ideas regarding our sixth pick. |

If it's anything related to the draft AT ALL, you'll get the same outcome. |

Re: Meriweather vs Landry
Ive been meaning to start this thread for weeks but havent had the time. If we could trade with the Patriots, and end up with Merriwhether and a dlinemen, that would be an amazing draft.
Merriwhether has been considered to be the best safety in the league for the last 2-3 years. Every scout had him penciled in as a top ten pick until the brawl where he ran and stepped on a guy. Yes, thats a character issue, he lost his cool in that game and never should have done that, but the guy can play and his stock dropped. If you read recent mock drafts most people having him omving back up into the mid first round. Everyone here loves Sean Taylor, well Merriwhether was his counterpart when he had that amazing year in Miami. His a four year guy, lots of experience. Mark my word he'll be a starter for some team this year. |

Now, what would your evaluation of him be, and in comparison to Landry, Griffin, and Nelson. |
Re: Meriweather vs Landry
we need another hard hitting safety like we need a whole in our head. the idea of two safeties that want to make the big hit doesnt seem like a very smart idea. We need to trade down pick up a couple of more late round picks and draft someone to help with our much maligned defensive line.
|
Re: Meriweather vs Landry
While people have been pushing for the sexy pick of Landry, why shouldn't I suggest the smarter pick of Meriweather, Why not trade with someone like the Patriots pick up their 2 first rounders and add a COVER-safety with expierence playing beside ST and a D-lineman in the same round... Did I mention cap friendly players as well.

Re: Meriweather vs Landry
Or we could pick a guy projected to go in the 5 round or later and really confuse, and piss us off.

Re: Meriweather vs Landry
have the skins gone wrong with guys from the "U"? oh yeah, i forgot about Rumph. just say no to anyone other then defensive linemen

I almost made an "A Time To Kill" joke, but that wouldn't have been appropriate. If we had to pick a safety I would want Landry, then Griffin. I really don't want to have Pacman Jones v2.0 on the Skins. Plus, I'd rather have a d-lineman anyway. |

the question was landry vs merriwhether, which also imples a guy at 6, or a guy at like 20. I didnt say i would take merriwhether over landry. i said I would take merriwhether and another defensive linemen in the first round, over just landry 6, in a heartbeat. |

So it's a new question I'm posing to you now |
Re: Meriweather vs Landry
Hes an idiot for storming the field, but it was an all out brawl, what would you have done? Id like to think I just watched, but odds are most people would have helped their teammates out. And yes, he shot someone in self defense. No charges or anything, everythign was legit, but still, he shot a guy. Both pose concerns in the "new nfl" that is being imposed.
With that being said, the guy can ball. Great instints, and thats what you need in a safety. He can cover, better than Landry. Landry isnt much different than Archuleta was. Hes athletic, a hard hitter, and if played in the box will stop the run every time. But the Redskins do not need that. If we did, than AA woudl have succeeded here, and AA will be a good player for the bears. Meriwhether gives you a safety that can play in coverage and we need htat. You dont take Meriwhether at 6. and if you are the skins, you dont take landry at 6. Hes got talent, but wouldnt be any good on thsi team. I dotn care that hes from the U, Ive just seen a ton of game footage on him. Hes one of the last Canes that I have a high opion of, on the football field. Coker was a shitty recruiter. (there is a guy at the U now, Kenny Phillips, thats supposed to be Ed Reed in taylors body...but we'll see). So did I anwser your question? Landry might be a better safety, but he would be worse for teh skins. |
