Totally not cool rip on Ramsey
Worst all-time first-round picks - NFL - Yahoo! Sports
Thesport writers at Yahoo! are up to it agian placing P. Ramsey as the 32nd worse all time pick in the draft. I understand there arnt a lot of 32nd picks, but no way poor Ramsey is the worst |
Re: Totally not cool rip on Ramsey
Well there has only been a 32nd pick in the first round as long as the Houston Texans have been in the NFL. When the league added the Texans the league grew to 32 teams. So Ramsey is only competing against like 5 or 6 guys or whatever. And a few of those 32nd picks happened too recently to really pass any judgment on.
So yeah, he probably was the worst 32nd pick in the 1st round. But that's not saying much. |

I'm just trying to prevent you from opening the proverbial can of worms YET AGAIN on this site! |
Re: Totally not cool rip on Ramsey
One observation though, which I find funny. Has such a big portion of our fan base ever before come to the defense of a player who has been off the team for two years and counting?
I mean Ramsey's been long gone now. You'd think we'd forget about him, but people still insist on talking about him like he's one of our own. I'm so over this kid. Nice guy and everything, but he hasn't donned the B&G in two years. It's history, people. |
Re: Totally not cool rip on Ramsey
Eh, I'm ok with it.. He did turn out to be a bust in DC, didn't develop into an NFL starter and in 5 years in the league he is on his 3rd team and was a third team QB last year for the Jets behind a rookie.
How did Heath Shuler not make this list? |
Re: Totally not cool rip on Ramsey
Ramsey looks like he's gonna be a career backup. I think that's about it.
The ole ball coach sure didn't help him out much though, that boy ate more grass than a billy goat under spurrier. |

Sweet lord here we go. |
Re: Totally not cool rip on Ramsey
Penn State rb's shouldn't be allowed in the league? Last time I checked Larry Johnson was the second best RB in the game.
|
Re: Totally not cool rip on Ramsey
Ramsey is an awful NFL QB, no matter how much I think he's a good kid. And he was drafted in the first round. Therefore, he is one of the worst first round picks ever.
|
Re: Totally not cool rip on Ramsey
Well he had one coach hang him out to get his butt kick on every pass play. Then he gets a new coach that shows they have no convidence in him and knocks him down another notch or two. The reason you still see the support for Ramsey is because the way he was treated by the Skins.
|
Re: Totally not cool rip on Ramsey
He hasn't done much to prove this wrong.
Sorry, I know he's a very well liked guy amongst Skins fans and he seems to be a nice guy but that doesn't mean jack once you get on the field. He's on his 3rd team in 6 years... he's sounding more and more like a journeyman. Yet this is still somehow Gibbs' fault? Please. |
Re: Totally not cool rip on Ramsey
Liked him, he's a bust, not Gibbs fault. Bad first round pick....period!

Wow, a perfect summation of Ramsey's tenure. |
Re: Totally not cool rip on Ramsey
Ramsey was/is a head case.
Ramsey was/is a head case.
What's qualifies him as a "head case"? Ryan Leaf was a head case. Ramsey basically sang the company line for his entire tenure as a Redskin until Gibbs told everyone that Ramsey was the guy and they were going to draft weapons to surround him with, and then he drafts a corner and a quarterback... |

Well, even the sun shines on a dogs ass some days... From LJ, you'd have to go back to Franco Harris to see a productive running back come out of Penn State. Ramsey had his chance, and we've all moved on for the better. If he's successful elsewhere, I'll tip my cap to him. But until then, he's a bust. |

The man never lived up to his potential, and it took the skins longer than it took the freakin Jets to figure this out. I'm sure the Broncos will figure it out soon too and he'll be out of football. The man had a strong arm, but nothing else. It's a good thing Akili Smith was really horrendous, cause I would have guessed Shuler would be the worst pick EVER, nevermind worst pick at the 3rd selection. Shuler got lucky. I'm sure some of you guys already know this, but here is an interesting, "what is he doing now" about Shuler: https://election.nationaljournal.com/2006/profiles/nc11_shuler.htm |

Not sure how you came up with Gibbs told everyone that Ramsey was the guy when the very first thing he did was sign Brunell. Now in 05 he did do as you said but as we now know Gibbs was correct but not with the Brunell signing but with his assessment of Ramsey. Man this is great anyone have an opinion as to what the furure holds for Lavar in the NFL. |
Re: Totally not cool rip on Ramsey
The real crime is that the Redskins as a franchise have legit claims to TWO of the worst first round QBs in a span of just nine years.
We should be lucky they overlooked Shuler. Good lord, let's hope Campbell is the real deal. Haven't we suffered long enough? |

I was refering to the comments made before the 2005 draft by Gibbs. I'm willing to accept that he was correct with his assessment of Ramsey, but he still drafted a cornerback and quarterback in the first round, immediately after telling a large crowd at Fedex that they were going to draft weapons for Ramsey. Anyway, it's water under the bridge. Campbell has far better tools and potential than Ramsey, so hopefully it won't be as easy for Gibbs to weazel Brunell back into the lineup this season. |

He finally decided it was time Jason (and I think it was th correct time) to help him get ready for 2007. The only way Brunell will see the field as a Redskin is if Jason goes down or he plays so bad that its not even a decision. Which I don't see that happening. |

Incidentally, here are the other #32 picks
2003-Oakland Raiders: DE Tyler Brayton 2004-New England: TE Ben Watson 2005-New England: G Logan Mankins 2006-NY Giants: DE Mathias Kiwanuka |

Re: Totally not cool rip on Ramsey
1) Does anyone really disagree w/Gibbs' decision to nab JC & let go of Ramsey?
2) Ramsey is a good guy & was good for the team as much as he could be. He will likely never develop into a good nfl qb, but he'll also likely never be out of work till he's in his early 30s. 3) The ole ball coach put em through hell, but also gave him opportunities to shine. Remember when he came in for his first action? against Tenn. I think it was. He looked promising. Then when we started the 04 season 3-1, he was lighting it up a bit. I won't say that Spurrier had a legit game plan, but Ramsey's primary flaw - slow reads & release - came out in it just as it did w/Gibbs' system. |

Nope
2) Ramsey is a good guy & was good for the team as much as he could be. He will likely never develop into a good nfl qb, but he'll also likely never be out of work till he's in his early 30s.
Considering he's already 28, it's no stretch to say that. He will be out of work soon when people figure out they would rather take a chance / save room for a rookie than a never was. I remember him missing so badly you were unsure of where he was throwing the ball. Then the next throw would be so perfect it was amazing. He was dramatically inconsistant. |

For the record, I was half kidding about Gibbs trying to get Brunell back in the lineup. I certainly wouldn't be shocked if it happened somehow though. |

Only if Campbell stinks up the place something awful, or injury to Campbell. It's Campbell's job to lose. |

I probably would have left No. 32 off such a list given the ridiculously small sample...but hey, I'm no Yahoo!

Re: Totally not cool rip on Ramsey
no more talk about ramsey. and how did this go this far and no offiss?
|
Re: Totally not cool rip on Ramsey
How cares about Patrick Ramsey?? He couldn't beat out jello armed Chad Pennington.
|
Re: Totally not cool rip on Ramsey
Why would they pick Ramsey when you could have chosen other quality redskins first round busts like:
1995: WR Michael Westbrook, or 1992: WR Desmond Howard We really should hire Charley Casserly back as our GM to fix this current team. ahahahha |
Re: Totally not cool rip on Ramsey
Casserly also drafted Andre Johnson who was a mega-bust.
|
Re: Totally not cool rip on Ramsey
Good call, missed that one. Bobby Betheard was the man, too bad we cant bring him back

Desmond Howard was MVP of the SuperBowl, right? He had a few TD's in that GB SuperBowl. All Ramsey ever did was not play consistently. Ramsey still is the bigger bust of the three. . |
