It's LaRon Landry!

I am surprised almost an hour after the pick no one has posted it.

I think it's the right pick, sounds like it's very tough to trade down, to much talent throughout the first rd.

I don't have the same feeling with Landry that I had with Taylor, but once he get's acclamated to the NFL game he should make a big difference in our secondary as far as freeing up Taylor, and providing much needed help for our CB's.

i wanna see Landry in the box to stack up on the run and that would free up Shawn Taylor to be the ball hawk he naturally is

Re: It's Landry!

Yeah, clearly Brady Quinn wasn't attractive enough for anybody to trade up to our position.

While I still think the defensive line is a huge liability, Landry was the only other player we could have selected that I wouldn't have been pissed about.

I guess they really like what they've got with Golston and Montgomery.

WHAT!! The skins have 8 CB/SS/FS. Why is a team that had 19 sacks all last year and one of the worst run defenses in the league. Drafting a safety. Skins need help on the Dline. Bad Pick

You do realize every year there is some great defensive lineman in the draft, and how many of them are a success? Landry helps our D in a big way, was there a dominant defensive lineman in the draft? no, not at all, we picked the best player available and the best player to help our defense.

So what about all the dbs we have now? Are we going to trade them? Stop the run/Sack the QB. Most important things on a defense.

Re: It's Landry!

Someone mentioned it once...In Greg W. Defense the rushers usually are not linemen. Usually its CB, LB, or Safety's. We all think we know who the Skins should pick including myself ( I wanted CJ or Okoye) but I think GW knows how his defense works best. He has had top 10 defenses in the past w/o the rushes coming off the line. I'll agree it will help but he knows his D. Last year we had to many injuries on the line and in the back field to do what he wanted to do. hopefully this year we will have fresh legs out there on most plays and still be able to get the rush.

I agree with this--GW knows what his type of D needs. Plus, if there isn't a great D-lineman on the board, you've got to take the best player. Our FO rated Landry the top.

I really like this pick, I called it by the way in the call your pick thread, but enought of that. I know many of you do not like this pick but you have to look at the d-line players we could've taken all were boom busts type of players. Laron Landry was the safest pick and the best defensive player in the draft, I think we did a great job with this pick.

Landry is the best defensive player in the draft. Gibbs said they did not get a lot of calls when it was thier time to pick. We did the right thing and will address the DL and LBs though FA.

Now you guys have the FS that will tell Taylor where he needs to be like Clark used to .

Taylor will be around the LOS much more this year, as he isn't the ball hawk that Landry is.

Make no mistake about Landry, you now have the Best safety tandem in professional Football.

Somehow, I wouldn't be questioning this pick if Parcells was still a part of the process.

I've said it for a while, that we needed to take LaRon Landry! He can play immediately!!

Check my past threads....I told you so

Kinda mad we didnt get CJ though.

Now we need to get some more picks so we arent sitting on our frickin hands until tomorrow!!!

Re: It's Landry!

This will give Williams so much flexibility on defense it should be sick.

Now we have a guy who can be trusted in coverage while Taylor roams the field. Also, this guy can lay the wood when Taylor drops into coverage and he is asked to play up in the box. Finally, we will be able to disguise coverages and blitzes again.

Looks like we don't need to worry about D-line much anymore, since Gibbs said that Blache and Gregg are satisfied with Golston and Montgoemry.. Guess they developed well through out the off season or something..

Put me down for this....Landry will go to the hall of fame and this will be remembered as the single greatest draft pick in the history of sports, surpassing Jordan at 3 to the Bulls.

Re: It's Landry!

i like the pick. i was at fedex today and during gibbs speech he was asked about the d-line. gibbs said he was pretty happy with daniels coming back healthy, carter coming on strong at the end of last season and washington and mcCintosh both being good pass rushers. he also mentioned possibly picking up some d-line help on day two of the draft. he mentioned golsten and montgomery both being day two picks and both making the team.

didn't take him long to make a smart ass coment about the pick:

"And how about the Washington Redskins, who just about elevated redundancy to an art form, selecting LSU safety LaRon Landry, arguably the draft's top defender, with the No. 6 overall pick? Landry is a potentially brilliant player but, even with the resurgence of the safety position in the NFL, he may have been a luxury, given that Washington already has safety in Sean Taylor, the fifth overall pick in 2004. Washington is the first team to use two top-10 picks on safeties, a fact that mattered little to Landry.

"We should be a killer combination," Landry told ESPN.com by phone from his parents' home in Metairie, La. "I watched a lot of when he was in college, at Miami, although I haven't seen a lot of him in the pros. But he's one of the guys I've tried to emulate during my own career. On my visit with the Redskins, I met with (defensive coordinator) Gregg Williams. He seemed like a perfectionist, but also a real smart guy, so he'll figure out a way to use both of us. I'm not worried about us being the same kind of player." "

I agree......I wanted to take a D-lineman also, DT/DE either would have been OK, but as we got closer to draft day it became obvious that the team did not see the value they were looking for from any of the top prospects. They decided to take what they considered to be the best defensive player available in Landry. I can live with the pick, but hope we make an effort to improve some along the d/line as the preperation continues.

You still need talent at defensive line. I don't care how clever a defensive coordinator says his scheme is -- you can't have bums at defensive tackle and defensive end.

Right now, Cornelius Griffin and Andre Carter are simply adequate. They're not stellar, and nobody in the front four gets penetration anymore. If we stand pat with what we have, it's going to be a long season. Let's hope they have more tricks up their sleeve for the D-line.

I was hoping to address the needs of our D-line but I can certainly live with this pick. Once Gibbs said that they would take the best player available instead of plugging holes I knew they would go with Landry.

Schneed10 04-28-2007 10:59 PM

Re: It's Landry!

This draft has left me feeling empty. It's so hard to watch all the other teams in the NFL getting better at multiple positions while we basically are standing still and just getting a year older.

I would have rather seen us address the defensive line, but I'm not totally against LaRon Landry as a player. He may be good for us for years. My problem is he's the only guy we added today.

There are 31 teams around the NFL who got better today. I don't feel like we did.
