Tayler has just signed with a Agent!

Yes the news we have all been waiting for, Tayler has hired an agent. Apparently he has chosen Eugene Mato to represent him. Hell i'm happy with anybody other than the Postons. It also says on the post that the team is goning to begin neg. immmediately. The only good I can see coming from his long delay is now hopefully Roy Williams and Phillp Rivers will sign before Tayler which will make neg. easier.

Who are your sources?

SmootSmack 07-20-2004 03:36 PM

Skins009-the bearer of good news! Do you have a link to the story?

MTK 07-20-2004 03:41 PM

Link please so we can let out a collective sigh of relief!

I predicted by the end of next week, but hey this is even better.

Fellas, does this mean we'll be able to see him Aug. 9th?

Redskins_P 07-20-2004 03:43 PM

Hallelujah!!!!

cpayne5 07-20-2004 03:43 PM

Well, they have 10 days before camp to get him signed, so I certainly hope so. Personally, I think there will be a deal in place.

RedskinRat 07-20-2004 03:51 PM

To quote Homer Simpson: WoooHooo!

SkinsRock 07-20-2004 03:57 PM

Finally....Thank god!!!

Now get those negotiations started!!
Speaking of that, does anyone else find it odd how teams (esp. the Skins) can sign FA's almost immediately after they're allowed to negotiate with them, but it takes everyone so long to sign high draft picks? Especially considering there is only a specific amount of money allocated for rookies. Also, why do they (all teams) almost always wait until the last couple weeks to do it? I don't get it...

cpayne5 07-20-2004 04:00 PM

Everybody's trying to get a feel for the market. The Redskins set the market prices.

skins009 07-20-2004 04:06 PM

Teams want to see that the players before and after got paid so they have a benchmark to start at.

Bergman14 07-20-2004 05:03 PM

I was getting really worried, its not a good first impression to make on Gibbs, and we really need him this year

memphisskin 07-20-2004 05:24 PM

I see this deal getting done quickly, Snyder negotiates the contracts and he doesn't want to present Gibbs with any speedbumps heading into the season. I can't wait to see #36 out on the field!

Redskins8588 07-20-2004 05:52 PM

I think that the FO already has a very attractive contract ready for him. Due to the fact that he took so long to sign with an agent, they just want to get him on the field, so when he found his agent they can say here is the best deal and try to speed talks up faster.

I am sure that he will want certain things also, but as far as the money I think the FO knows what it will take to get him in to camp on time.

love them hogs 07-20-2004 06:04 PM

Thanks for the post skins009 I was begining to worry.I was just watching around the horn and they mentioned how Taylor had not signed with an agent yet.I said uh-oh its getting into the national media this cant be good.
Now all he needs to do is sign his contract and I can stop being worried about it.

I hear what you're saying and I definitely want him out on the field as soon as possible. But I don't want this to set a precedent where players back teams into a position where they have to make a sudden decision just to get the player to camp on time. Make any sense what I'm saying here? I don't think I'm expressing it well.

Redskins8588 07-20-2004 06:36 PM

Yes, and I agree and I understand, but that is one of the only reasons as to why I can imagine he would wait so long to sign on an agent.

MTK 07-20-2004 06:58 PM

1 down, 1 to go with Taylor.

I'm sure Danny will do everything possible to get ST in camp on time, but it's not going to be easy.

Hogskin 07-20-2004 07:16 PM

I agree 100%, Smack. And, Matty, I agree it is going to be tough to get him in on time. It would really help if #4 and #6 got signed pretty quick. But we KNOW that won't happen with #6 LOL. I don't think he will be in for next week's workouts, but I sure hope he is in by (or very, very close to) the official start of training camp.

That Guy 07-20-2004 07:26 PM

skins8588, he could have held off not to push the team into a contract corner, but to get the agent to agree to a lower commission.

arrington wouldn't let the NFLPA use his name on jersey's cause he wanted 8% instead of the standard 6%... in the end he ended up with zero and his fans were a bit miffed...

]<ing 07-20-2004 07:57 PM

I don't know why, but I'm just getting bad mojo from this guy. I wanted us to draft him, but I'm a little worried about him being a bust -- one of those guys that has the talent, but won't put in the work. I've got nothing to base that on other than my gut.

Let's just hope this dude brings it come game time...

Thanks man. Compliments really take on added weight when they come from The Curmudgeon

SKINSnCANES 07-20-2004 10:50 PM

wow, awesome news.

As a side note, are you guys familar with T.Newmans contract from last year, the previous 5th overall pick. I was looking at it a while ago, so these numbers arent exact but its a very interesting deal. We all know that synder backloads contracts but newmans is crazy. He got a 13 million dollar bonus, which IMO is huge for someone who hasnt played. Then he has like 6 years where everyyear its a one million dollar cap hit, then in the last year of the contract hes due to make 14 million. By then though the bonus is paid for, because thast spread out over 6 years, and i assume they will obvioulsy redo his contract. So he essentially has all upfront money

Taylor saw the actual season tickets this week and said "Wow, I really am a Redskin. I better get moving on a contract!" For those fortunate to have tickets, check it out. Game 4. :D

huntz 07-21-2004 03:10 AM

:o Oops, excuse me. Game 5.

Someone call the church, its a miricle.

MTK 07-21-2004 09:49 AM

Sounds like both sides are eager to work something out quickly per today's WT article:

"Obviously, we're kind of jumping in here at the 11th hour," Mato said. "However, I believe only two first-round picks have signed to this point [Houston's Jason Babin and New England's Vince Wilfork], and the Redskins seem very eager to get the ball rolling and get something done. We're going to do what we can to get something done in the next few days."

Top draft picks often wait to see what kind of contracts fellow first-rounders get before signing themselves, but Mato said there's nothing stopping him from completing a deal with the Redskins right now.

"I'm not afraid to pull the trigger if I feel it's the right deal," he said. "I never look at what other players sign for as a tool to help me negotiate my client's contract."

Redskins_P 07-21-2004 11:13 AM

Hopefully they can work something out before the end of the week. We need this guy on the field asap.
