New Linkin Park?

Just wondering if anyone was a fan in the first place and, if anyone has the new album, what they think?

Personally, I don't like all of the songs as much as when they were nu metal, but I do like the fact that they're trying to make some sort of statement. "Hands Held High" and "No More Sorrow" are really good songs and make it worth buying the album.

Dont have the entire album yet, but I listened to some of their new songs last night. I liked what I heard and have every intention of buying it before the week is out.

pretty good. 3-4 songs you can count on. not the best but it will do for a bit.

Not bad overall, but the songs I heard didn't "rock my face off" as the kids would say

In the End is one of my favorite songs ever. Makes you want to go out and play some football and hit people kind of song

I've been listening to it almost all day, at first I was like meh, now it's really growing on me. It's definitely a different sound for them. More stripped down.

Speaking of which, whatever came of that warpath or forum football tournament, or game that we were trying to put together two years ago?

Yeah, the one that you guys were trying to put together at training camp.

Well the mods got busy with personal stuff for a while that didn't allow us to really pursue it the way we had hoped to so we put it off and unfortunately it just never materialized.

It did get us Tony McGee as a regular contributor though so that was good.

Too bad, and cool. Now back to the thread. Linkin Park rocks!

I'm not a big fan of the new album. One of the things that made me like them in the first place was the fact that they had a pretty unique sound. Now they sound like they should be touring with Breaking Benjamin. And they pushed Shinoda into the background which was a mistake. Overall I'm pretty disappointed with the new album.

Re: New Linkin Park?

Their new album is iffy, I do like track 7 (Hands Held High) though.

Re: New Linkin Park?

6-8 is a nice stretch. I like the fact that there is some political commentary in it. I like what they're saying, but I don't think it would have hurt to let Shinoda say more of it.

I don't care for the new stuff. Maybe it will grow upon me in the coming weeks.

I like that new song that I've been hearing on DC101 24/7, What I've Done. I might look into getting the new c.d.

The big merger between skins.com and extremeskins kinda threw a damper on things as well if I remember correctly, since we basically got locked out of being able to send JC to camp.

tickets for the Projekt Revolution tour featuring Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, HIM, Placebo, Julien-K, Mindless Self Indulgence, The bled, Saosin, Styles of Beyond, Madina Lake, and other bands went on sale today. I'll be there 4 the Tues Aug. 14th @ the VA Beach amphitheater if ayone else is going.
and I've only listened to half of it so far but I'm digging the cd more than I thought I might from the way people on the radio have been talking about it.

Re: New Linkin Park?

This is just my opinion, and I'm sorry if I upset any big Linkin Park fans, but I pretty much think that they're one of the worst bands I've ever heard in my entire life. I think someone described it as "nu metal." Well, I think that whole genre sucks. I'm 22, but I grew up listening classic rock bands like LedZep, Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, you know, good bands. When I hear these new bands who aren't nearly as technically proficient with their instruments, and just flat out cannot rock as hard, well it I get a little sad to see that this is what rock music has evolved into. Every time Linkin Park records a new song, a puppy dies :(

That really doesn't offend me at all, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Personally, I don't get into much of the older stuff. I like Hendrix and The Doors, but that's about as far as I go. I, personally, don't like Skynyrd at all.

Yep, to each his own especially when it comes to music.

I really liked classic rock stuff back in high school, The Doors, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, etc.

Over time music evolves, personally I like to follow that evolution rather than pinning myself down to just one period of time or genre of music.

I don't pin myself down to one time period or genre of music, I just don't enjoy new alternative music or "nu metal." But I pretty much listen to everything except that genre of music. I think classic rock will always be my favorite, by I also love country and rap/hip-hop, and I know there's lots of people who don't like either of those genres.

That's cool... but I don't think it's fair to say those guys aren't technically proficient or they don't rock, they just rock in a way that you don't like.

Well, I play the guitar, and I enjoy listening to music with excellent guitarists who are very technically proficient. So, compared to what I like to listen to, I'll never say that Linkin Park is technically proficient, however, if you think they rock, then yeah, you could say that they rock, but in a way I don't like.

Re: New Linkin Park?

I would say more than anything LP is a guilty pleasure. Are they anything revolutionary? Not really. Are there bands more technically sound and of a higher level of musicianship? Of course.

Re: New Linkin Park?

I do not believe in the whole genre thing. The way I look at it, a good song is a good song, and good music is good music. Example; Just because I might support Pink Floyd's early albums doesn't mean I will defend the band for the later stuff that they put out.

In Linkin Parks case. I liked their first two albums, as far as the new one, there are some good songs on it as well. But I dont like them all. But hell there isn't a single group out there that has convinced me with all of their music

I mean Led Zeppelin didn't write tunes everybody liked. They left that to the Bee Gees.

Re: New Linkin Park?

Speaking of Linkin Park, here's a good story on what their lead singer has had to deal with the past couple of years.

"Sandia National Laboratories is one of the Department of Energy's three nuclear weapons research facilities. Located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, it was created in 1949 by J. Robert Oppenheimer, former head of the nearby Los Alamos lab, as a center for developing the technology that goes into nuclear bombs. The lab is run by the Sandia Corporation, which is owned by defense contractor Lockheed Martin.

The thought of someone inside a top-secret nuke lab spending their days stalking a rock singer was ludicrous. Dimitrelos figured it must be a hacker who was using a Sandia machine as a proxy to protect their own IP address and identity. This wasn't just about a nu-metal rock star and his family anymore; it was a national security issue. He had to let Sandia know that someone had compromised one of its computers."

That was some seriously fu**ed up shit. How in the hell did she ever get a security clearance? Its a rhetorical question. I know you don't know.
