Washington Post: Shawn Springs Back June 5th

Washington Redskins cornerback Shawn Springs said he intends to report June 5 to Redskins Park after skipping the first two weeks of the voluntary organized team activities.

"I'm excited to get back in town and crack jokes with my teammates and catch up with my boys," he said. He added that he would have reported next week, but no OTAs are scheduled because of the Memorial Day holiday.

Looking forward to him being back

What's the latest trade rumors then? I have been away for 2 weeks...I haven't heard anything.

KLHJ2 05-21-2007 11:09 PM

Re: Washington Post: Shawn Springs Back June 5th

I do not think that there is a trade partner willing to take a risk on Springs given the size of the contract he carries and his inability to stay healthy and his age. I like Springs and hope that he can put the injuries behind him. Unfortunately if he continues to refuse to restructure, I think that he will be gone after the season is over.

haha, congrats on 1200. I just reached 1500 myself, and didn't even notice until you said something.

Springs should retire after this season.

Re: Washington Post: Shawn Springs Back June 5th

I wonder how much of this has to do with him simply waiting until June 1st to see if he is cut or traded. He probubly didn't want to get hurt in OTA's if he was going to get traded. He probubly has money due him and figures that if I wait till June 1st and I'm not cut and they show me the due money then they are not planning to cut me. Everything so far has been Voluntary which does not count against him for not showing up other than pissing off the coaches.

Re: Washington Post: Shawn Springs Back June 5th

The only way I see him getting cut is if he's not 100% healthy. I just don't see how we could afford to cut him if he's healthy and ready to go.

When healthy he's easily our #1 corner.

I agree, IF healthy, he will be with us this year, but this will be his last. Also, if healthy of course he will be our #1
Any rumors about him being a June 1st cap casualty?
Nothing beyond speculation on the part of know nothing media types. It makes zero, zilch, nada, zippy sense for Sprinsg to not be on this team. With the market the way it is he is actually somewhat reasonably priced. And cutting him post June 1 won't happen anyways since they could cut him now and post it as a June 1 cut, per the new CBA. If they wanted him gone I do think they'd give him the benefit of cutting him now so as to give him a chance to move on more easily. Maybe not though.

i really don't care what he makes. he fits in under our cap, and is easily our #1 corner. I'm glad he is coming back

Re: Washington Post: Shawn Springs Back June 5th

I second that. if the health issues work out, and he can be a happy guy in DC, he is a TALENTED corner

I predict that Carlos will have something to say about that this year! Rogers will finally live up to expectations and catch the ball. Springs and Rogers with Carlos in the probowl.......

Re: Washington Post: Shawn Springs Back June 5th

Springs is waiting to see if he gets cut June 1st. While I don't think he will, if he misses one practice I say we cut the whiny jerk. If he doesn't like this business, he can come work with me and see what crappy jobs are really like.

But mark my words: he'll get injured and won't play more than 8 games in 2007.

i like your thinking on that, dont know how i didnt connect the dots . . . when springs is in there he plays on another level compared to carlos and company, i thought it was alil under the belt for the skins to ask for a pay cut when he enters the heavy end of a back loaded contract . .

WELCOME BACK SHAWN

ESPN blows ass when it come to NFL news they just get the re-treads of NFL Network and NFL Sirius Radio news. Then Len PasQ. claims he is breaking news. Blow me ESPN you Redskin haters. Listen to Sirius or NFL Net. for real NFL news.

I worryy a little about his health now that he has stayed away from Redskins park until June. We won't know anything until there is no chance to do anything about it... which is just the way a player would want it.

The good news is we signed who we could when we could.

I agree, no telling were he's really at health wise? Anyone's guess, we will find out pretty soon. Another thought is he could be tweaked over the possible trade issues?

However, from what Joe said he thought they were on the same page, apparently not.

I think anyway it shakes out, we have really good depth this year at CB.
