Will We Get Ogunleye Since No R.Williams??

i hope this is increase our chances or getting him. Lenny P (espn) says this will force the Phins to use Ogunleye as bait to get a running back.

MTK 07-26-2004 12:35 PM

Or they could use that extra cap room to sign him. Hard to tell at this point, I'm not sure that Betts is what they're looking for.

Redskins_P 07-26-2004 12:35 PM

We don't have a RB thats any better than Minor. It will take alot to get Ogunleye. It would probably take something like Betts, a couple of draft picks, and another quality player. It's a tough putt.

Agreed. And this team needs Betts as the number two back anyway.

Jamaican'Skin 07-26-2004 12:56 PM

I heard that the 'Phins might trade Ogunleye to Chi- town for the A- Train (Anthony Thomas). That does not help the situation.

Let's hope not!!

that also wouldn't be an even trade and I think chicago would need to sweeten the pot a bit with atleast one decent pick. I honestly think the phins will either get someone from the fa pool like mack or stewart, or just use a lot more screens and swing passes towards minor. I could still see the phins maybe trading ogunleye here if for anything another 1st round pick so they could draft a young rb and use the other pick to get more help on their offensive line.

BleedBurgundy 07-26-2004 01:22 PM

Well, at least they have a solid QB so that they can transform into a passing team this year. Air Feeley! LOL

Carnage 07-26-2004 02:35 PM

I agree that Betts is not good value in such a trade, be neither are many of the potentially available backs. They may now have cap room for a Samuels trade though.

Bergman14 07-26-2004 02:41 PM

Does anyone else think at this point maybe we should just leave him alone? We dont really need to give another risky player too much money, lets just go with what we have, im tired of all the late movement on this team

I really doubt anything will happen, but theres nothing wrong with wishful thinking. You have to admit that our biggest whole on the team is the d-line.

Thats what makes it interesting. To speculate, think of different scenarios, and getting everyones opinion. What else are we going to do during the off season?

MTK 07-26-2004 03:08 PM

I also doubt that we'll make a move for O-gun at this point. I think Gibbs and the rest of the staff are committed to the roster we already have. They've worked pretty hard this offseason to install a lot of the system so they can hit the ground running in training camp. I don't think Gibbs would throw an unknown in to the mix this late in the game.

Plus with Ricky retiring that throws a wrench in the works. Miami is looking for a quality RB if they're going to give up O-gun, and we really don't have one worth their while.

SKINSnCANES 07-26-2004 03:25 PM

well they have the money to resign him now. From what i read they want to use rickys money to sign adewale and chambers to new deals. They dont want to lose their end so they arent jsut going to give him up for picks if they can afford him now.

Hogskin 07-26-2004 03:45 PM

I think we had a real shot at Ogun until Ricky pulled this. No way now. They will wait him out, and if they decide he is definitely gone for this year, they will use the space to sign Ogun. No way they will trade him for someone's backup RB - get real ESPN. And nobody's gonna give up Priest, LT, Portis, or any other #1 RB for him. I would expect them to go shopping with a round 2 or 3 pick. There are a lot of guys out there that they could possibly pick up that would help them. Examples? Kevin Faulk, Onterrio Smith or Moe Williams, Hambrick, any one of the crew in Denver's stable...

SKINSnCANES 07-26-2004 05:39 PM

ogunleye is being shopped according to espn rumor central. Hes on the trading block.

skinsfanthru&thru 07-26-2004 06:49 PM

yeah I could see them going for a back that would garner a 2nd or 3rd round pick in return, but not a 1st rounder or ogunleye being given up to get a rb. they need to keep their 1st rounder for atleast o-line help and their #1 player to pursue next spring, unless he resigns sometime this year, is gonna be Edgarrin James of the colts cuz both he and harrison r gonna be free agents after this season and u know which of the 2 is gonna get slapped with the franchise tag.

Redskins_P 07-26-2004 07:14 PM

I heard the possiblity of E.James wanting to go back to Miami, but it's not likely.......imagine that.

Daseal 07-26-2004 07:34 PM

Anyone really think O-gun would be worth a pivotal player in our O line? I don't myself.

Hogskin 07-26-2004 07:42 PM
ogunleye is being shopped according to espn rumor central. Hes on the trading block.
I'll believe that one when it happens. Seems very unlikely. And as far as Garner or James, they are both critical to their teams' plans. Can't see that happening.

as much as i'm dying to get Ogun, no way would i trade Samuels. even after his bad year last year. no way. how's his cap numbers?

joecrisp 07-26-2004 08:10 PM
as much as i'm dying to get Ogun, no way would i trade Samuels. even after his bad year last year. no way. how's his cap numbers?
Not good. Samuels' cap numbers are the main reason people want to use him as trade bait.

You can find all the salary cap info on the Redskins here, thanks to the superb work of our very own Crazy Canuck:

http://www.thewarpath.net/WarpathRedskinsCap.htm

Here are his remaining cap numbers:
2004: $8.750 mil
2005: $9.643 mil
2006: $11.320 mil

illdefined 07-26-2004 08:16 PM

Damn. i was afraid of that. (kinda knew it too..). hopefully Gibbs and Bugel can turn this unit into the new Hogs this year, have lots of success and make Samuels want to renegotiate his contract..
:grouphug:

NFLNetwork 07-26-2004 08:53 PM

i think this will either increase or decrease our chance of getting him, depending on which way the phins go

Daseal 07-26-2004 09:04 PM

He did say he's willing to restructure after this year if I remember correctly.

Hogskin 07-26-2004 10:16 PM

I would love to believe this increases them, but I can not see any scenario where we are better off in that regard. It gives Miami more cap room, so the chances of THEM keeping him are greatly increased. And if they don't keep him NOW, it would mean they get a big-time RB for him. We only have one, and no way he is leaving town. We still have an very little shot left with a first or second rounder PLUS Samuels, but I think it would be a bad deal for us. Getting him for a 1st and a WR is now out the window.
