Morgan State DT Armstrong to be available in supplemental draft
Morgan State defensive tackle Robert Armstrong, whose size and quickness might tempt a few franchises in need of interior line help, will be included in the NFL's supplemental draft scheduled for July 12.

Gotta be worth a 7th don't ya think?

Re: Morgan State DT Armstrong to be available in supplemental draft
I guess it depends on what the story is with this guy's background and injury history:
In addition to the past back problems, which must be checked out thoroughly, the other red flag with Armstrong is his advanced age. He will turn 24 on July 6 and that might be a factor in determining whether a team invests even a late-round choice in the supplemental draft.
|
Re: Morgan State DT Armstrong to be available in supplemental draft
The supplemental never draws much interest.
It must be a pretty long shot to glean a diamond from this rough at this point |
Re: Morgan State DT Armstrong to be available in supplemental draft
Yeah seriously, have any of these supplemental picks ever panned out into a quality starter? These are guys that usually come with a lot of baggage.

Re: Morgan State DT Armstrong to be available in supplemental draft
His # are not very impressive 5 sacks last year and three cam in one game against Norfolk State which is no power house. He only had 15 tackles in 10 games also add in that he is 24 years old.

Yeah, but with a wide body like him, aka Tractor Taylor or Sam Adams, you don't really expect big numbers. His job is to clog up the middle and force runners to the outside. |

Weren't Eric Swann and Christian Okoye supplemental picks? I know that's going way back but I thought they were both unique stories.. |
Re: Morgan State DT Armstrong to be available in supplemental draft
If you can get a guy that can play some or at least give a few reps in relief, or for injury, without giving up the "Tiki Trainwreck", then you have something.
However, we don't need another might to feed. Determining what you would get seems to be the challenge |
Re: Morgan State DT Armstrong to be available in supplemental draft
I would rather us go after Tank than pick this guy.

Oh hell no. |
Re: Morgan State DT Armstrong to be available in supplemental draft
I can't believe people would even consider Tank, but at the same time I'm not surprised at all.

i think the last guy to come in and contribute right away at a decent level was Ahmed Brooks the LB from UVA went to the bengals a year ago or so. Of course the knock against him was the off the feild issues... so of course the BENGALS got him (to replace Odell?) but he has managed to be one of the few guys on that team to stay out of trouble |
Re: Morgan State DT Armstrong to be available in supplemental draft
Who knows - he may be a developmental guy. If you like him, bid a 7th rounder. Otherwise, just wait see if he gets drafted and sign him as an OFA.

Re: Morgan State DT Armstrong to be available in supplemental draft
Why would the front office of the Washington Redskins be interested in a defensive lineman?

Re: Morgan State DT Armstrong to be available in supplemental draft

Why would they not be? I'm sure they have their eyes open, but it needs to be the right circumstances. I'm not sure that a 24 year old rookie with a history of back problems is what they're looking for. |

Actually, Bernie Kosar was a supplemental draft choice back in 1985. |

So it's been 22 years since a quality player panned out for the long haul. |

Re: Morgan State DT Armstrong to be available in supplemental draft
From NFL.com:
"Some of the names you might recall who have been selected in supplemental drafts through the years include linebacker Brian Bosworth, a first-round pick of the Seahawks in 1987; Washington State QB Timm Rosenbach, taken by the Cardinals in 1989; Miami QB Steve Walsh, also taken in 1989 by the Dallas Cowboys; and Duke QB Dave Brown, who was selected by the Giants in 1992. More recently, San Diego defensive tackle Jamal Williams was a second-round supplemental pick in 1998, and he has become a terrific run-stuffer for the Chargers. " |
