Five Players to Watch in The NFC East '07 (This Isn't a J. Campbell Thread)
 

Since training camp is approaching, I guess it's actually time to start discussing football again. Here are five players in the NFC East that don't have "star" status, but I think could play a big role on impacting there respective teams.


[B]Dallas Cowboys: [/B]Bobby Carpenter. Carpenter is a second year player from Ohio State where he was an outstanding linebacker. He saw limited playing time with the Cowboys, mostly on teams, until very late in the season. My bet is this kid is either going to crack the lineup or get significant playing time this year. Wade Phillips could reap Bill Parcell's rewards if Carpenter lives up to potential.

[B]Washington Redskins: [/B]Rocky McIntosh. Yes, I'm on the bandwagon, but I got on in '06, and mini camp reports only confirm my bandwagoness. McIntosh like Carpener was relegated mostly to teams last year, and played sparingly, but many around the Beltway and Warpath.net feel this kid could help the defense return to form. Gregg Williams would just love to foam at that mouth over someone other than Sean Taylor; Let's hope it's Rocky!

[B]Philadelphis Eagles:[/B] Takeo Spikes. Philly is Spike's third stop in his NFL career, and he's now two years removed from that nasty achilles injury he suffered in '05. After years of playing for mediocre teams, Spikes is ready to make a run for a championship. If he can stay healthy, Spikes could prove to be a nice addition to Philly's already solid lineup. His firey and intense style of play is a good compliment to that of Brian Dawkins. First T.O. now T.K.O! What is it with Philly and guys with flashy names?

[B]New York Giants: [/B]No one player really stood out to me on this team. For that reason, I'll highlight a couple of key losses. Tiki Barber's retirement and Jim Finn's season ending injury leaves the Giants with some question marks at the running back position; Particularly depth. While Brandon Jacobs is an upcoming RB in the NFL, he has big, very big, shoes to fill. This could be Tom Coughlin's toughest year yet as the head man in New York.

[B]*Washington Redskins:* [/B]Since I had to choose five players from four NFC East teams, let's add one more Redskin. Derrick Frost. This guy really started to grow on me as the season progressed. In fact, I think he grew on himself as well! His confidence from last season should spill over into '07. Frost could be a good compliment to a Redskins defense that will surely be playing with a chip on its shoulder this year.

Frost's best game was in the Week 15 game against the New Orleans Saints. He had five punts for a 47.8-yard average, including a long of 54, and three kicks inside the Saints' 20. Let's hope we can see more consistancy from Mr. Frost in 2007.

Yea, nice post.

I'm throwing two more SKIN'S in there. Carlos Rogers, we have good depth at corner this year which is great and hopefully SS will be healthy. We need Carlos to step up to the plate!

And of course ALL eyes will be on the BIG man in the pocket!

Yes, good post. However, my players to watch in the NFC East are Tony Romo, Jason Campbell, Donovan McNabb, and Eli Manning. How those QBs go is how those teams will go in my opinion.

Perhaps the only proven QB out of them all is McNabb, but he will have to prove he can rebound from injuries and stay healthy. Eli has been inconsistent, but has shown flashes. Romo is overrated in my opinion, but maybe he'll be good enough to not lose games for them. Of course my money is on Jason Campbell. I predict he will struggle a bit early, but he will turn out to be the better of the four by seasons end.

I think this is the year Eli might actually play the position of QB well. Unfortunately for him he's probably working with less this year, and Tom Coughlin isn't exactly a genius when it comes to imagination.

Hand down its JC. Its the most important job and its his first year as a starter. We could be watching the future of our team or we could just find out he not our future and have to start all over again for a QB. I don't think that will happen but it could and would set us back more than any other position on the field.

[B]Player to watch for me is rookie A.Spencer all reports come that he's a Beast he allready has taken comand of the OLB spot he will help D.Ware put terror on other offenses he already had a similar play like Ware's last year on the run interception of vick if you haven't seen it go watch it it's just AMAZING.[/B]

[B]Another player it's Spears I think with the adition of Phillips defense Spears will finally turn corners and be like a L.Castillo to this defense.[/B]

[B]I would go for the obvious choice rader Landry I really wanted this guy he doesn't seem to have a flaw he will solidify your defense and help put more presure on QB's by giving your line more time, he will make this defense unpredictable and will help taylor do what he does best. McIntosh I don't like I didn't like it last year to many injuries has lost explosivness.[/B]

I wholeheartedly agree with you here. I was just trying to make a case for the [I]non-JCs[/I] and [I]non-Romos[/I] of the East.

But yeah, our season hinges on JC bigtime.

the wrod is he wont start he just be a situational player nickel, 4-3 and stuff but the current starters are Spencer,Ayondele,James and Ware that's why for me the gusy to watch is spencer.

Right now Dallas has an exces of talent in the LB front with guys like Burnnet,Carpenter and Ellis as backups guys tha tcould be starters in any other team

Well then maybe you should have said the 5 to watch who are not QB's then we would not have been all confused. LOL There really is no other choice as far as I'm concerned. Any of the others mentioned we can substitute for but at QB we really have no substitute. I think Brunell can fill in but I'm talking our future as much as anything when saying JC is the one to watch. If he fails (which again I don't think he will) we have to start all over in a system everyone says takes two years just to learn.

DBoyz has been posting on this site for about 2 years or so now. He is pretty up front with how he sees things and I think its fun having a rival on this site. He comes here even after the Skins wip up on the Boys and has never done anything for us to get upset about. We have had those Cowboy fans that would sign up for a day to rub a victory in our face but the Dboyz will come here regardless of the out come. Heck he even has some good thing to say about the skins from time to time.

Much respect 12th man and firstdown even though I'm new to the site everywhere I look we are hated on ESPN with cowboys NFL Network Fox they are all over hating on us it would just be nice not to see them, but I cannot argue with guys who have posted as much as you have ...I am a die hard skin, no matter how nice I could never enjoy a Cow (no offense to the guy) My only interests are the Redskins ..I thought this was that kind of site ..didn't mean to offend anyone (maybe he's a closet Redskin ?)..

He is a closet REDSKIN FAN...AMERICA'S REAL TEAM! He just has a thing for that ugly ass helmet with the faggy little star on it.

The only time a like that star is when it's being drove in the ground, by one of those hard hittin SKINS......like, hum? Sean Taylor lol

I'm curious as to whether or not Suisham will remain on the roster to be watched. He looked good, but I don't know whether or not that means anything at this point.

Will we bring in 30 kickers and have another year of kick-offs?

Sorry to disappoint you man but I bleed Blue like I've said it 100 times but I love football as a hole more I come here because I can speak out and be truthful about what I think of my team and others I know the Cowboys aren't perfect but in some Cowboys boards there are many members that blindfully think they are and that's part of the problem.

Here to you see a lot of members that truly believe each year the team is going to the superbowl finish 16 -0 or 15 -1 because they don't want to sound so crazy but they don't see their teams real problems so they get down when they don't fulfill their dreams instead of seeing that there's a process to take the team to the next level and that something has to happen for it to be taken to that level.

if we stop and see the flaws of our teams we can start to find or talk solutions to get them. I come for those guys who can't actually see that the glass isn't full is half full.

example last year I critic Archuletas and randalls signing I said that you overpaid for a bad safety that couldn't cover or tackle and you over payed for a return guy with 5 good plays each season many guys came after me others stopped an took what I said in a good way.

For me this year finally your front office is tacking the right direction to taking the franchise to it's level they didn't go after big names old racks or overpaid mediocre FA they didnt trade future draft picks and grabbed a super star stud that they needed who will help that defense many years in Landry.

I come here because if I can come out and honestly say I think Barry Sanders was a Better RB than Emmitt simth and don't get close eyes responses even if all the video and production show us that Barry was I love Emmitt but I'm not blind to see who was the better back.

I think you fixed some holes but I think it's unrealistic to believe you'll go out and win 12 games with a QB that has only played 6 games showed promise in 2 and don't think he's going to struggle in some games and make stupid plays with a bad defensive front and complicated offense I think 10 games is a possibility but 8 -9 is more a reality I have to admit JC showed more promise that I thought for what I saw in him in college but I do believe he's 2 green and doesn't has a lot of support to win the thought games.

Wait wait, what???? "from what you saw in him in college" ??? You mean his senior year when he had to learn a new offense from a new coordinator right before the season and then went out and led them to a 13-0 record and was a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Award?? Did you not think that showed much promise? They would have won the national championship if the BCS didn't screw them.

rocky is definately a player to keep an eye on. with washington rushing the qb more often and fletcher now our middle lb it will be very interesting to see how rocky does. and thats if he wins the starting job over marshall.

Couple of things.

Bobby Carpenter - New head coach uses a 3-4 that puts a premium on speed at the ILB position, so since Ayondele is OK and Bradie James is more mouth than action, I expect to see both Burnett and Carpenter vie for the second ilb spot. Carpenter can cover, and James is Roy Williamsesque in his coverage attempts..

Jason Campbell - full training camp as the Man, wasn't rushed into a bad situation, strong, strong OLine. I think the Skins are a playoff team this year.
Defense bounces back from the horrible season last year, tho I don't see a run stuffer on your D Line...

Interesting. I too was thinking this might be Carpenter's year to crack the lineup. It will be interesting to see how both Carpenter and Rocky respond this year.
