Dwight Freeney the Colts New $72 Million Man

ESPN - Grateful Freeney signs $72 million deal with Colts - NFL

Hard to say hes worth this with his run stopping deficencies, but the market is insane right now.

Wow, it's no surprise he's getting this kind of money but it's still a shock to see the figure $72M in print.

$30M signing bonus!

I just choked on my soda.

Didn't Carter get half that?

Freeney's perfect for the style of ball the colts play though.

Re: Dwight Freeney the Colts New $72 Million Man

By the 3rd year of this deal, he and Peyton will be eating 40% of that team's cap room.

40%! On two players.

Re: Dwight Freeney the Colts New $72 Million Man

Well you figure they got a ring out of the deal so far. And they have a solid coaching staff, so who knows, maybe they've figured out a new way to build a championship franchise.

Don't know about that. I mean, who's really worth 72MM anyway? The NFLs pay system and ours are in two different orbits.

I can only imagine what kind of a contract Julius Peppers is going to sign now. If i were JP i would be sending a thank you stripper-gram to Mr. Freeney.

I'm sorry guys but you don't see the big picture him getting 5 mill per year more than the next highest lineman Seymoure will take defensive players salaries to the roof.

remember 2 years ago when hutchinson got that huge deal in Minnesota well this year avrg guards not even close to hutchinson level asked and received the same type of contract.

Next year every above avrg lineman is going to ask for a contract in the same range or at least between seymour's and freenny contract do you think any of your lineman is worth 9 mill per year.

This agents and owners are screwing the CAP

Besides Peyton how can you pay one player this much. You could get two maybe three good guys for this money. And 30 million signing bonus could have been mine if only i could run fast and sack a Qb

Just sick, To me Peyton being one of they best getting big money is understandable, but a D Lineman who is limited against the run? This is a bad deal on the Colts part in that they really screwed their cap in the coming years but better them than our beloved Skins.

Hey one thing everyone forgot to mention - the good thing about this is now Freeney is off the market and Synder does not have the chance to overpay him and kill our cap! Thank you Colts for preventing our owner from tripping over his own 2 feet again!

I wish I had some of that. But from a pass rushing stand point. He does deserve a big day. But it;s funny people are shocked now. The market will only get bigger so soon you will se 7 year 100 million dollar deals with like 45 million dollars guaranteed.

welcome brger13, and thats a ridiculous amount of money that is a specialist. both he and manning will have to renegotiate in 2 years

Apparently hes been of the PUP since the season ended (its automatic)
But i bet they will release or trade him once some DT's go down in preseason

Until next year when The Danny goes after Julius peppers or one of the other top flight guys (Burgess, Schoebel, etc.) and makes one of them "the highest paid defensive player in history" (which im willing to bet there will be a new one every year for the next few)

That's probably right, skinswill, especially if we're decent and make the playoffs and are "just one player away from the SB"!

(And even if it's a good pickup, the press will hate it...)

Forgot about Peppers - your right and I would not be surprised if we go after that one missing piece. I guess with Peppers you can say at least he can play effectively against the run and pass the rusher.

One thing that is going in our favor though the SKins did not go crazy and go after any restricted free agents this year and have all our picks next year so at least we are loaded on that front.
