Introducing UFA LT Stephon Heyer

Although I cannot speak to his abilities, I thought it would be appropriate to provide you with links about our backup UFA LT. He took Samuels' place at LT with the first-team offense during today's (Tuesday's) practice and apparently "handled" Andre Carter in camp.

If he even makes the team... Fabini is the top backup right now

handling carter not that big of a deal. seems line most of the left tackles did pretty well against AC last year.

Yeah, but how many were undrafted free agent rookies that handled AC last year???

they're just testing all of our backup tackles at that position i believe. tomorrow fabini may be in that positiion.

You are the biggest bunch of pecimists that I have ever encountered in my entire life. AC picked up his play mid season and ended up leading the team in sacks. GW says that he is more comfortable and believes that AC is going to have a tremendous season.

Do you people live in the "show me" state or has your life just sucked so bad that you give up all hope. You guys sound worse than Carlos Rogers when asked to cover Galloway.

And another one from Redskins.com

EXACTLY. You also might want to remember that Carter had his career high in tackles last year.

So for anyone blaming last year's woes on him, remember that there's a certain number fifty-seven who is no longer here...

This has got to be a kick in the pants to the vets. I can't think that they honestly look at him as the solution. I hope this is just a development thing and they wanto get him going. He has the size and the scouting seems to be that he has the overall skills to start in the league but mostly on the right side with much development. It is sounding more and more to me that Wade is going to slide over and Whit will start. I am not sure Wade is adapting so well to guard.

Yeah I agree. I think this is just meant as a wake up for the vets, and it doesn't hurt to toss him to the wolves to see what he's made of.

Re: Introducing UFA LT Stephon Heyer

Our local papper did a peice on him as he is kind of a local guy. He spent all his off time this year at Redskins park working out to develope his lower body. He had a very solid junior year and tore his ACL (I think ACL) and missed the 05 season and had a slow sen. year as he was still recovering from his ACL. I also read that he has a 36" reach which should help him keep defenders away. I would not right this guy off and he may become one of those gems at a great deal.

Re: Introducing UFA LT Stephon Heyer

IF you notice in that WashPost article today, it noted that last year a couple undrafted FA linemen were put in the mix w/the 1st team, only later were cut by the opener.

I sure hope this guy is for real. I don't think it's necessarily a ploy by the coaches to get Fabini et al to step up, I think it's just Buges & Gibbs evaluating him.

Re: Introducing UFA LT Stephon Heyer

btw, did anyone see comcast last night & the story on the Gaither kid from U MD. who's in camp w/the ravens? They say he's doing well, then again that's often said about a no. of rookies this time of year. He said he grew up a skins fan.

Re: Introducing UFA LT Stephon Heyer

Yeah. I really do like this guy. Of course, that and a $1.00 get you a cup of coffee (and not even particularly good coffee).

As I said in another post, the Skins line is starting to age and could very quickly, and all at once, be in need of multiple replacements. To me, the most important unit on any team is its offensive line and, IMO, no matter how good your QB, defense or skill positions are, without a decent O-Line you are doomed. Can anyone name a successful team that had a bad or even below average O-Line?

With that said, I am hoping that both Whittaker and Heyer make the team and develop into front line players. They have the size to dominate, the question is simply whether they have the athleticism and proper desire to do so.

Not sure about that, but we do know that the Giant's backup TE was man handling him all over the field.

Re: Introducing UFA LT Stephon Heyer

Some guys just can't win no matter what they do. AC finished strong down the stretch, Williams just said the other day he thinks that AC had problems adjusting back to playing DE full-time last year but he expects big things from him this year. I hope he's right but it probably won't matter to some people who will pick apart every snap on him and will only point out the bad. AC is officially a Warpath whipping boy.

I think you're right on with this one. As I said in another post, Chris Samuels getting nicked up really makes me wish we had more draft selections in the past couple of years. Being able to stock up on some projects along the O-line in the 2nd or 3rd round would look pretty nice right about now.

Samuels probably has more left in the tank that Jansen seems to. And Randy Thomas can't be far behind him. Along with serious help needed at D-line, O-line is probably the next area of need.

Yea I don't get it? This guy is a machine, and is in for a HUGE season! I also caught the GW interview, sounds like AC he gonna suprise alot of people this season.

He will pick up right where he left off last season, he was SO close so many times....this year he makes the close ones and the QB goes down......go AC!

What's up with the second link? the author not like the kid or what? talks about how he slips into a size 22 slipper but like to wear an 18 cleat on game day. As if we should all think the Falcons for showing him the proper shoe measurement.

Re: Introducing UFA LT Stephon Heyer

do it for the whole season, not in a 6 games. Daniels did the same thing in 2005. Nothing last year or the year before. We all want AC to do it, just prove it for the whole season. And try not to get run over all the time too.
