Portis' Tendinitis Returns
Hopefully this is no big deal. As good as Betts is, I would hate to see Portis deal with medical problems throughout the season.

Re: Portis' Tendonitis Returns
Damn, this really sucks. I really wanted to see the guy at 100% agian. I really hope this is a case of tendonitis that just goes away.
Wishing the best to Portis |
Re: Portis' Tendonitis Returns
Hopefully its just soreness.
|
Re: Portis' Tendonitis Returns
tendonitis is pretty normal
|
Re: Portis' Tendonitis Returns
And the BS starts.
|
Re: Portis' Tendonitis Returns
I hate to say this but Portis may experience injury problems throughout the rest of this season. I am so glad that we have Betts. Betts was so solid last I'd be glad to have him back there again this year. The only thing he needs to work on is his big play cuts.
|
Re: Portis' Tendonitis Returns
unfortually i think this will be a problem this season. At least we have Betts for all the Betts bashers. Betts will do good job when he plays.
|
Re: Portis' Tendonitis Returns
:soapbox:
I have been saying all off season that the tendonitis was going to be a nagging issue for Portis... and I got attacked.... :spank: |

he's a straight ahead runner. what he needs to work on is holding on to the ball, too many fumbles last year. |
Re: Portis' Tendonitis Returns
It's not uncommon for someone to have a flare up. Camp has started, and his physical activity has greatly increased. It can be easily treated with rest and anti-inflammatory meds. He just needs to get eased back into the flow.
|
Re: Portis' Tendonitis Returns
If it were the regular season he would rest during the week and be a go on gameday. I'm more concerned about Samuels than I am about Portis, by quite a bit.
|
Re: Portis' Tendonitis Returns
Portis hates to practice...I'm sure his tendonitis will be feeling just fine, say in about 5 weeks.
|
Re: Portis' Tendonitis Returns
I'm worried about Portis to be honest. Not this particular injury, while tendonitis never completely goes away, you can deal with it. Im worried that injuries could riddle him. Lets hope Betts worked on his blocking and fumbling problems in the offseason. I had flashbacks of Stephen Davis fumbling in important situations.

While Clinton Portis a bit banged up is still better than half the back in this league, that may very well be his upside from here on out.

But it's true. However, as the Brunell/Portis haters fail to grasp, just because a guy is past is prime does not mean he loses all his value to his team. We're more than set at RB, I just don't think we have one of the leagues best. Its OK, because in a few years, we will have one of the leagues best QBs. |
Re: Portis' Tendonitis Returns
guys calm down its JUST tendonitis. and its about a month until the season actually starts. this is nothing
|
Re: Portis' Tendonitis Returns
It looks like Portis will probably never play again. Wah - Wah.

I gotta give some love to the Tripp. His opinions are consistently the most even-handed and realistic of just about any member on this site. I agree that Portis will still be very effective this season, and that it's quite possible his best days are behind him. I don't see the type of work ethic from him that leads me to believe he'll maintain his body well enough as he ages to remain in peak playing condition. Jerry Rice and Darrell Green are examples of guys who worked tirelessly to stay in good playing shape; and they didn't take nearly the punishment that a RB does. I think our RB talent is strong, even with an injured Portis. And I agree with G Tripp, we don't have a top 3 RB tandem here. But what we do have is a scheme and an offensive coordinator capable of producing a top 3 ranked running game, even though the RBs at his disposal may not be LT and Turner. Of course we'll need a healthy offensive line to make that happen as well. |

I see him still getting 1400+ yards this seasons and 13+tds and Betts with 750+ yards and 6+ tds. |

Portis I think (and hope) that he returns to his 05 form. you are right, he doesn't seem to work hard enough to stay in shape. But now I think he is starting to realize it with all the Betts talk. And I think once he recovers from this tendonitis I think he will work harder to stay in shape. At least he better. Cause he is only going to be 26. If he actually gets that work ethic back. He could still be a dominant force for the next 10 years barring injury. But you are right Schneed he has to get that work ethic back. |
Re: Portis' Tendonitis Returns
Shit, everyone else is losing guys for the season and now we get hit with CP and tendonitis. Now I have to downgrade his butt in my fantasy draft. It could be nothing big, could be a ruse, but could be a season long thing. Can't take a chance. Damn I was going to draft him #2 or #3. Might still take him as a my backup though. My draft isn't til August 30th so I will know more then.

yeah im worried about him too. its not like portis to have all these injuries. i was really lookin forward to seeing the 1-2 combo with him and betts. this injury can really nag the hell outta you so lets hope its short term and he can return to form by September 9th. |
Re: Portis' Tendinitis Returns
no big deal. one day, at the start of the season, he will wake up and say " im 100%" and everyone will forget about this

Re: Portis' Tendinitis Returns
I hope Bubba Tyer is stocking up on cortizone.

Re: Portis' Tendinitis Returns
Are you guys serious? Portis' best days are behind him because he has tendonitis?
|
Re: Portis' Tendinitis Returns
Its training camp and CP is not into camp, practice, or the preseason so this might be overblown by CP to avoid too much practice in this heat. I'll start to worry when he cant play in the regular season.
|
Re: Portis' Tendinitis Returns
This just in from skinsncanesnews.com "Portis comes down with serious injury, known medical as the 'Im not playing in preseason disease', Portis is quoted as saying he anticipates a full recovery by game day week 1 "
|
Re: Portis' Tendinitis Returns
CP is pretty vocal about his stance on camp and preseason games, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if this latest knee tendonitis is very minor.
Regardless of the severity of the injury, you can bet the coaches and medical staff are going to be overly cautious with him to avoid a repeat of last year. |

THANK YOU! CP HATES pre season so who cares if his knee hurts right now. Someone close this silly thread. |
Re: Portis' Tendinitis Returns
Are you guys serious? Portis' best days are behind him because he has tendonitis?
Not because he has tendinitis, but because he's not the kind of hard worker you need at the RB position to hold up in the long term. RBs historically wear out very quickly. Most are shadows of their former selves by the time they're 30. The ones who last longer (Curtis Martin, Emmitt Smith) are the ones who work their butts off to stay in shape and healthy. I think Portis will be good this year, maybe even just as good as he was 2 years ago when he ran for 1500+ for us. But I don't see him ever being as electric as he was in Denver. That's not to say he still won't be a good back, but I don't think he's going to get any better. |
Re: Portis' Tendinitis Returns
I love the one - two punch potential of portis and betts...however, if portis can't go...I have to problem with going with betts. If you recall, people were saying last year that betts may just be a better fit for the redskins running game then portis. Portis takes too many hits, runs very hard, fights for extra yards, and always uses his shoulders to block and take hits. Because of this I can see his shoulders being a big problem again this year. Forget the tendentits. I'm afraid to say that he career will be shorten because of it.
|
Re: Portis' Tendinitis Returns
Injuries that happen early in the season usually get a lot worse than they do getting bettter. Lets hope for the best.
|
Re: Portis' Tendinitis Returns
With Portis and Betts both at 100% (or close to) all season, we make the playoffs. If Portis is in and out of the line-up all season, we don't make the playoffs. Also, our O-LINE obviously needs to stay healthy because our backups are what the sportsjunkies would call "hurting." And finally, Santana Moss is the truth, and w/out him in the line-up were fu*%#@!! Peace...
If you recall, people were saying last year that betts may just be a better fit for the redskins running game then portis.
Who are these people, because I know it wasn't anyone on the Redskins coaching staff? I know there's a handful of people around here that seem to think Betts fits the system because he looks like a power runner(except when he's on the field), but most people that have seen the both of them play realize that Portis is the superior tailback. The only way Betts is a better fit for the system is if the system has been revised to include fumbles and exclude rushing touchdowns. |
Re: Portis' Tendinitis Returns
CP will be fine by week 1 IMO, but I read in a fantasy football magazine that he has only played in all 16 games twice in his 5 year career. (Ironically he's on the cover)

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Betts is a better receiver and Saunders has quite a large Mancrush on him dating back to watching him in highschool. |

I know that RB's don't last real long but how do you know what CP does to keep in shape? |
Re: Portis' Tendinitis Returns
It is time to face the facts....Portis at the point in his career is like owning a high mileage car. He still works but his parts are worn. He is creaky and is more likely to break down. We need to start to develop a permanent replacement in the next year or two. Not that I want to get rid of him, I think he is great when healthy. Be he soon will not be worth his high salary because he will not be on the field.
Knee tendinitis in a RB is never a good thing. The same goes for Samuels. Portis and Samuels are two of the higher cap numbers we have. If they start to miss a lot of time in the regular season their high cap number becomes a big problem. |

Then please point me in the direction of a comment that ANY coach has made insinuating that Betts is better than Portis. I have heard him say that Betts is a great player, but what else would he say? I haven't ever seen a comment by Saunders, specifically stating that Betts is better. |
