Redskin/Ravens Scrimmage Discussion

I figured we should have a discussion thread for the scrimmage, for those of us that are able to watch it. For those that can't, the format is as follows:

15 minutes - Special teams
30 minutes - 7 on 7 (might see some starters)
30 minutes - 11 on 11 (very few starters)

Rignt now, they're just taking turns kicking off and punting. Frost kicked a few boomers. The Washington gunners looked slow. Randle El fielded one punt. The other potential punt returners are ass. One fumbled, and one couldn't decide if he wanted to field the punt or let it roll.

Pretty boring I have to say, Campbell looks good though. Too bad im watching from a Baltimore channel which is focusing twice as much on the Ravens than the Redskins. Oh and word is they might forgo the 11 on 11 because of the heat.. glad I didn't go this year haha

From McNair?

Re: Redskin/Ravens Scrimmage Discussion

Smoot is a beast, Campbell looks pretty good. Brunell continues to suck. Lots of Thrash and Cooley. Defense looking very nice. Granted this is all 7v7, so not a great indicator.

Yes, Smoot picked McNair.

I know its just 7vs7 but did Smoot start with Springs?

Southpaw 08-04-2007 01:04 PM

Re: Redskin/Ravens Scrimmage Discussion

Smoot's pick was nice, but McNair lobbed it right to him. Campbell looks solid. Brunell looks like he's trying to prove he still has an arm, and threw into double coverage.

On the Ravens side, Troy Smith looks better than Kyle Boller.

Rock Cartwright is wearing 23, and the MASN guys were like its Omar Stoutmire, no Ladell Betts. But Ladell is wearing 46 today.

Re: Redskin/Ravens Scrimmage Discussion

Brunell is on on the 11 on 11 drill and immediately starts with the horizontal passing attack. He also threw it away on 3rd and long... shocker. But in his defense, the backup that I don't recognize suck.

To be fair, there are a lot of guys on the field who won't even make the team, but there were a couple of blown coverages. The run defense looks pretty solid though.

it's just frustrating seeing the wide open over the middle passes being completed just like last year

i love the fact that 90% of our throws have been check downs. It's good to see we're working on our bread and butter.

Watching this I have a horrible feeling of Deja Vu'.

Watching our back-ups get beat by other back-ups and not to damn good while they get beat.

"if you are keeping score it's now 10-7, Ravens."

Who the F is keeping score? This guy sounds just like the ravens fans that sat near us at the preseason game last year. They were cheering like they were watching the damn SB or something.

the sound guy on the sideline.

There's no way Troy Smith is 6'. He looks like he's 5'9", not that there's anything wrong with that.

Our goalline defense was great, but do we need to continue to leave the middle of the field open so that they can gain 20-30 yards at a time. Oh well looks like we still have plenty to work on.

How did the first team offense and defense look? I know a lot of players were held out, but I'm far more concerned about them than the backups.

It's difficult to determine because there were so many players held out on both sides of the ball. In fact, that entire ordeal looked much like an audition for the most popular Raven. When the Redskins were running their plays, the camera's were elsewhere conducting sideline interviews with Raven players. It quickly became boreing, but for what little I could observe, we still have work to do, espically on defense.

Re: Redskin/Ravens Scrimmage Discussion

Yeah, as a Redskins fan it was very tedious to watch. Our first team offense never went out in 11 v 11. Campbell never saw any action, nor did ARE, Lloyd, Betts, Portis, etc. Our D looked fine to me. We're playing a low contact scrimmage, on one of the Ravens big plays we had a sack, but you cant touch the QB.

The announcers were absolutely terrible. It was typical Ravens we are so great attitude.
