How do you think we size up for the 1st pre-season game next week against the Titans?
 

After just catching some of yesterday's scrimmage today, on NFL network.

Most of what I caught today of yesterday's scrimmage I was looking at #2 & #3's for a very good reason, so it is very hard to tell where we are really at. One thing is for sure we have to get rid of at least a QB & maybe a few other roster spots.....Palmer did look good on the TD toss should make the pratice squad, I believe that will leave Casey Bramlet odd man out...?

I believe next week we will go into Tenn. looking to not only play sharp, but to come home with a victory! I look foward to seeing at least a quater of the #1's, and have a better gauge as to where we are early on.

Joe will come out with a strong game plan and this will have more of a regular season game feel to the team and coaching staff, IMO. We need to come out of the gates hard even though it's a pre-season game. I think Joe will pressure the team to play as the game means alot to the team.....to start strong. Not to overlook these games as we did last season, then it carry over to the real thing.

We will play 4 quarters of football and fight our guts out.

Nothing else really matters.

I agree skinsfan. I sure hope we come out with a chip on our shoulders! All the hard work in camp hopefully will pay off, and seeing how the starters are playing together will be very nice to see where we think we are at.

We do have some injuries to get cleaned up, other than that let's get a win get some confidence flowing in DC, and build on that.

And certainly come home with no more nicks or gosh forbid any injuries.

We def need to make a statement next week. Win or not, the 1st teams on both sides of the ball need to prove themselves.

show some tuffness, put some pressure on the qb and stop the run. O-fence has to move the ball and hope try to get the ball downfield. We have to be aggressive.

I think we'll play to win....but I dont think we'll play many starters....guys like Portis, Samuels (obviously), Thomas, probaobly Moss won't play at all. Campbell might play a series. Defensivley, we'll hold alot of guys to a series, maybe two..... I think the 2nd/3rd games we'll play guys for a half or more, and then barley again in the 4th...I just dont see us going overboard against the Titans in terms of who we play...no reason too, really. I defintley don't want to have a preseason like we did last season, and I think we need to play to win and get guys some reps, but I really don't see us doing too much next week. At home vs Pittsburgh/Baltimore we will play guys for a while.

I agree for the most part. You mentioned mainly starters that are knicked or hurt, and should not or can not play anyway. I think if other starter's can go they will see the field, maybe even through the first quater.

And yes of course we do not want to start with a pre-season like we had last season. There will be a sense of urgency to get this thing going quickly.

I got to tell you after last year this is what I'm looking for in our first preseason game... everyone coming out with all limbs fully functioning. If I see another key player lost in the preseason I don't know what I will do.

IF this game with the Titans were to be the LAST game of the season - - in February in Arizona - - then it would be REALLY intersting to analyze now each team matches up against the other.

But for a first exhibition game, this just does not matter even a little bit!

I don't expect the starters like Portis, Moss, Thomas, Washington to play at all. I don't expect Campbell to play more than a series (maybe two). I DO expect to see people flying to the ball on defense. Win or lose, just show me some heart right now in this first game.

I expect we'll see more from the offense than we saw last year at this time and an overall increased sense of urgency, but let's keep our expectations in check as well. It's the first preseason game, and we've got some key guys that are dinged up and not worth risking further injury in a meaningless preseason game.

I don't put much into what I see during the preseason, however I would like to see our offense play like every down was 3rd and 5. We really need to work on converting those short downs into 1st and 10. The D show focus on the QB. I don't care if they score 100 points on us, as long as we get pressure on the QB, and generate 1st downs. That's what we need to work on IMO.

Really, the only things you can judge are the aspects of the team that are healthy. I could care less about the score.

I am looking for the starting defensive line to show progress in stopping the run. The defensive line is entirely healthy (about the only part of the team you can say that for), so I'm looking for them to bottle up Lendale White and company. If they get gashed on the ground I'm going to start to get concerned.

As for the offense, the offensive line is banged up, Moss prob won't play, Portis prob won't play, Campbell won't play much, so I could care less about the offensive performance.

I wouldn't go that far. There are still things you can take away from these games. Rule number one: if a matchup isn't starter vs starter, then you can't read anything into it.

The score doesn't matter. But if our starting units (the ones that are healthy) don't look good against their starters, then I think we have some concerns.

Well alot of our startes will not be playing regardless. Portis, Moss, Thomas, Samuels, Washington probably are not going to play. But it will be a time for those reserves to step up (espcially on the OLine). I really think you will see a team that is hungry. I really think the limited time the starters will play they will be flying around trying to make things happen. Do we need to win? No! but I starters DO. They need to play well, play organized, and play hard.

I'm so much less interested in seeing how top groups perform this year than in years past. Now, I just want everyone #1 and #2 guy on the depth chart to come away from this game healthy. I'd love to see the Rock/Blaylock battle for a roster spot (if that's actually happening) play out during the preseason. Hell, I wouldn't mind seeing it in the first quarter. I don't want to see anyone limping away from this game.

I really want the preseason to feature Heyer, Espy, Rock and Blaylock.

I don't know how true this info is, but I've heard that Blaylock is way ahead of Rock right now.

What I think happens is we lose based on the fact that our offensive line depth is crap again this year.

Watching in the scrimmage this year, it's like our second team offensive line doesn't know the meaning of the word "gel". I think our first team offense and defense will play well and I feel like our defense will surprise some people.

I think we lose to the tune of 20-10 with our first team offense scoring once and backups scoring a field goal.

I think the rookies will play more, landry will probably get snaps with the starters and continue on a little while after the starters are gone. The rookies need more time out there to adjust to the speed of the game. Either way i truley beleive the starters will be ready to go and ready to prove something for the short time they are in there.

I've heard the same, be interesting to see how that shakes out. I believe we can keep both possibly, with CP's status uncertain...?

Also, Bradford an edge over Espy that will be cool to watch for the last WR spot.

Which QB is gonna roll first..? should happen any time.

hopefully most of the starters wo'nt play much after the portis debacle last year.i'd be surprised if campbell or brunnell played at all.collins better shine or his ass will be gone!

Blaylock looked good in the scrimmage caught some passes picked up yards, but I agree maybe we should keep both. But watch out for Mason who also looked good this weekend, Rock cant let up he has two hungry guys wantint to make the team nipping at his heels.

I think Bradford will knock out Espy, espcially if Espy does not get on the field soon.

Honestly Collins should be gone first, I would say his time is passed but he never really had one. I see Bramlett going first unfortunately because I would love to see him and Palmer battle it out for a few weeks and both are better than Collins, with alot more potential.

I think we'll see mostly second string, third string and beyond. They'll evaluate some of the unknowns to start trimming the roster. I think it's important that we come away with a good evaluation of talent, and no injuries. I wouldn't worry about getting a win so much. I doubt you'll see any starters play more than a series or two. Some won't play at all.

I really wouldn't expect to see much from the Skins again this preseason, I think Gibbs and Co. really like to keep stuff low key. It will be fun to see how the rookies look, but other than that I don't expect to see much.

Also, did anyone happen to catch Michael Irvin saying that he likes to kiss his son's in the mouth while he was up in booth talking to Collinsworth, and Gumbel? I found this pretty humorous.
