Rocky McIntoch Appreciation Thread

I love Rocky McIntoch! I'm sensing a very special player in the making here! Forget the Brunell, Ramsey, or Campbell bandwagons. I'm cranking up the Rocky Wagon. Who wants to ride the Rocky Wagon? LOL!!! (There is just no heterosexual way to put that! :) )

Let's keep this short and simple. He is a baller from the U. What else do you need to know?

Dale Lyndsay is an idiot.

It is a crime, an absolute crime, perpetrated on anyone who spent a dollar on the Redskins in the last three years that Lavar and Rocky lost snaps to Warrick Holdman.

Unf-ingbelievable.

As much as I'm glad Warrick Holdman isn't on this team anymore because he sucked with us, I wish him luck and I hope he returns to play football in Denver. I heard that that spinal cord injury he suffered in training camp could be the end of his career.

Now we know why they decided to move up to draft him. So far he looks worth everything they gave up.

By all accounts it seems that Rocky just wasn't ready for prime time last year. He's just about admitted as much. But it's good to hear that he's worked his butt off this offseason and that hard work appears to be paying dividends.

I was extremely impressed with McIntosh. It seemed like he made virtually every play when the 1st string D was in there.

He should have intercepted that pass he tipped. Saw it coming from my living room. Memo to the defense:

Good job, get me some turnovers.

I think those turnovers will come. I am just happy to see Rocky busting his butt out there! Our defense looks pretty solid!

Rocky has had the talent, but the NFL system is what eluded him. Now he's had a season to soak it in, and we should expect good things.

I don't care what his knowledge of the system was last year. There should be a press conference to apologize to every one of us for putting Holdman ahead of him.

You know what good organizations do, especially when it is obvious that the season is over, they put in their young players and let them learn.

While I do agree with the latter point, the former is not legit. Fact is, Rocky looked lost last year, and was not deserving of a starting spot.

This is true! It's another example of a player needing time to develop. It has paid off with both Campell (at least so far) and McIntoch.

Not really saying he did...but you don't throw a rookie out there when he doesn't know what he is doing.
He didn't perform, so he sat until he could. They did the right thing with Rocky in terms of his progression.

I am not very convinced that a guy can go from totally lost, as he supposedly was, to looking this good in one off season. If he was really that lost and has now shown the sudden ability comprehend and excute so well then I put that previous inability more on the coaches. I wondered why they canned Lindsey and not Jackson. Now I can tell why. Apparently Dale Lindsey sucks at life. With this much ability they needed to figure out how to get him on the field instead of burying him with scheme and denigration to the point of complete shutdown.

Yeah I should preface all my posts with that. One or two good games do not make a great player. He still needs to prove over time.

Still, he looked pretty damn good tonight. Good in the 'Pretty obviously he can be a playmaker' way.
I just sense this aggressiveness with our 1st team defense.
I felt more like it was just our defense in general. I guess specifically, GW seems to have hired Magnum PI over th off-season to find the agressive bitch-slapping D we had before last year. I am actually in some sort of shock realizing how bad we were and how it just came out of nowhere. This is why I am not a coach(among a multitude of other reasons of source), I am simply not keen enough to understand exactly why were sucked so bad last year compared to the years before and apparently this year. It is stupid early, but still, our defense looked crapalicious right out of the gate last year from pre-season snap one. Soft and unfocused. No aggression. WTF?

I think it comes down to two things: Our DL being relatively healthy and depth.

I am picturing Tom Selleck running around Redskins Park in a Hawaiian shirt.....LOL!

Rocky did look very good last night ! He have great speed , and lets hope it translates to the field in September . As far as Lindsey and Holdman , Im sure if G Williams thought Rocky would have been an upgrade < last year > , he would have put him on the field , he has the final say , not the position coach . On Holdman , no team has 11 pro bowlers , had our DL and Db's played like they did last night , WH . would have been servicable . If you guys want to hate a guy , remember , it was Lavar who had all the god given talent in the world and rarely showed up .That is in the past , looks like we could have a WS backer for the first time in over 10 years , not to mention a leader at the MLB spot !

Re: Rocky McIntoch Appreciation Thread

I was REALLY impressed with Rocky, obviously, and how crisp our D was playing the entire nite. The only thing I am still a little worried about is pass rush which still looked mediocre. However, GWill didn't blitz too many safeties and LB's (probably because he doesnt want to show all his cards in the preseason) so hopefully the pass rush won't become a problem. Also I know Rogers has been playing pretty well, but I still don't understand why he is giving WR's so much cushion (even on the goal line). Whats the deal with Smoot? I think he has been really quiet this preseason (both literally and figuratively). Is he in GW's doghouse b/c he isnt as physical as the other members of the secondary?

Yeah, I love how when someone plays well they should have been playing that position last season and its the coaches fault. If you pay attention to anything the Skins are saying, Rocky, along with Campbell, have spent the most time this offseason at Redskins Park trying to improve. That is why he is playing amazing, his hard work is showing off. I don't think he prepared like this last season.

It appears that he simply wasn't ready last year.

Last year is over, let's move on and stop crying over the past.

Cowell 08-19-2007 05:47 PM

Re: Rocky McIntoch Appreciation Thread

I like how when Rocky hits someone they don't go through him and they don't really go forward at all. Holdman would get dragged 2-3 yards before he got the ball carrier down, if he got him down.

Re: Rocky McIntoch Appreciation Thread

It's one of the only times I'll say this, but I actually agree now on them holding Rocky out and not letting him play. I wanted to see him last year, but I guess I was just like everyone else not knowing he wasn't ready. But, from what we are seeing now, we are going to have one hellava defense this year.
well it was a year wasted for us and rocky.
You don't know what Rocky was doing last year, he was probably studying his ass off trying to get onto the field. The guy was a second round pick, and you're acting like he was supposed to come in and be great immediately. Let's be clear, when we drafted him we weren't expecting him to be Derrick Brooks immediately.

Last year was not a wasted year for Rocky, I'd rather we suck and give him some time to learn rather than him suck when we need him to be good. Besides, who cares if Rocky did good last year? The entire defense blew, it wouldn't have mattered if Rocky was the only guy that looked good. Last year is in the past, let it go. All that matters is that he is a great young linebacker now, and he's got a promising career ahead of him.
