I think Dallas has last place cut right out for them this year. 4-6 wins.

Everyone else is down on the Giants. I think they will sweep the Cowboys.
Wow, I sure hope Gtripp is joking.
Not at all.

I don't know what to expect out of the Dallas defense this year. Could be very good for all I know, but they have a lot of questions to answer.

Offensively, this teams best player, Marion Barber, isn't even in the starting lineup. That OL is still awful, Romo has not done nearly enough to prove he deserves to keep his job, they have no other QBs to replace him if need be, and they have a pair of really old whiny receivers. One of the worst offenses in the conference (though not quite at Minnesota level).

The Giants will be a bit worse than last year, but only a bit (and may even win more than 8 games). The loss of one player is always a bad reason to be down on a team even if that player was valuable like Tiki. It will make some difference, but Brandon Jacobs will come in and fill in Tiki's shoes adequately. Eli should have his best season as a pro. All in all, they are a team pretty much on par with us. I have some worries about whether or not we can take care of them head to head this year. I predict we split with them.

I don't think Barber is the Cowboys best player, Id say T.O. by far. As much as I hate him I do think that he is still one of the leagues top wideouts. Top 10 definitely if not top 5 or 6. I also think that Dallas has a decent backup QB in Brad Johnson, he's a smart QB and if need be he can be called on to manage games. I would say that the Giants will have the worst Defense in the East. I also think Eli will continue to struggle and that this is the last year of Coughlin. The Eagles have a decent defense, a great QB when fully healthy, a pretty good RB in Westbrook, and then a relatively small WR corp. I don't see the Eagles being as good as everyone thinks. I think the Cowboys and Skins battle it out for 1st in the division with December 30th having home field playoff ramifications. The Giants and the Eagles will be sitting at home come playoff time.

Re: ESPN Poll: Who wins NFC East?

I am gonna have to agree with GTripp, the Cowboys have too many ifs to be the favorites for NFC EAST. It has to be the Eagles, they have McNabb healthy and Westbrook, plus a decent D. Everything for them is proven and there.

The Cowboys have a new coach, new system, an highly overrated QB who I would say is unproven. 3 out of the Cowboys last 6 games last season Romo had below a 60 QB rating. Very inconsistent. He was hot his first couple starts, but then cooled off pretty quickly.

TO of course is a good receiver, but has issues with drops. Their D got anally penetrated last year, and they gave up a ton of yards like us. Not good enough to be number 1.

I think generally the predictions should be

Eagles
Dallas
Washington
New York

Not that I think we will be 3rd, but that is a realistic opinion of the rest of the US because of our poor performance last year.

All these predictions will melt away after week two I suspect. Then, you'll see the "expert" analysts back pedaling on their holier than thou, set in stone, predictions.

We shouldn't be favored. Past results don't look good.

But past results are not necessarily indicative of future earnings. If they were, I'd be a millionaire instead of some idiot with a shitload of plates from the Franklin Mint.

So pretty much he predicted them to be one of the greatest two teams of all time! That's insane...how does everyone keep forgetting about their o-line and secondary. Besides that, even if Tony Romo turns out to be amazing, he's bound to make mistakes sooner or later.

So he was serious in picking them to go 16-0?? What a dipshit.

In related dipshit news Mike Golic picked the Cowboys to go the Super Bowl this morning.

Re: ESPN Poll: Who wins NFC East?

Of course I'm a Skins homer, but honestly I just don't see what the Cowboys did last year to justify some of these ridiculous predictions we've heard lately. They seriously stumbled down the stretch last year, losing 3 of their last 4 regular season games, and then of course the first round playoff loss making that 4 of their last 5. Romo was horrible down the stretch as well culminating in the botched snap and overall shitty playoff game performance.

They lose their Hall of Fame coach and now they're Super Bowl favorites??

I'm just totally confused.

Of course I'm a Skins homer as well, and it's hard to be objective about the Skins, but not so much w/the other div. teams.

I think the Cowpokes pick for the div. title & even the super bowl, is a good one. I think their D is going to be much improved due to maturity of the young guys & Phillips cutting the D-line loose more. They already were talented, if Spencer can contribute they'll really be tough. the secondary remains their weakness on D.

Romo looked great for most of his starts & their O-line is not deep, but they have a good left side & center. The wr's are old & like many teams if they get a couple injuries on O you'll see big drop off in talent. Witten is still one of the best TEs in the game.

As for Parcells leaving, I think that's one more reason they'll be good. Look at his 4 years in Dallas; every year they ended poorly. I think that reflects on the coach & his style. Marty's teams & Coughlin's teams have always finished poorly too, whereas Gibbs' teams always played well in Dec. My point is that Parcells' grinding practices & micro-mgmt. is not well suited to today's players & it showed at the end of the year. I see them being much better late this year than last. Sunday night I see Eli getting pummeled many times, maybe getting hurt.

I think we can only get a split this year.

Cowell 09-06-2007 09:27 AM

Re: ESPN Poll: Who wins NFC East?

I don't think that it's so much as Dallas is that good, but the rest of the NFC is that bad. There are not too many contenders out there.

Agreed. I don't understand how a team with an iffy quarterback, old receivers and an underachieving coach is a sexy pick for the Superbowl...

I'm with you. I don't see how they've done anything to improve themselves. Their best DB is likely hobbled for the season. They didn't add any vital cogs on offense. They added Leonard "Fat Ass" Davis on offense. That is all.

Now they're Super Bowl favorites?! Give me a break.

Right. Honestly, just like every year the CARDINALS are a sexier pick as far as I'm concerned for the Super Bowl than the Cowboys. Everyone is all like, "But, but, but WARE is going to be a beast this year because he's a year older and improved."

Isn't every rookie in the rest of the NFC and the league even?

TheMalcolmConnection 09-06-2007 10:00 AM

Re: ESPN Poll: Who wins NFC East?

I think it might be a touch better for them since he's more in the mold of a guard. Wade's problem was his height.

Still though, it's not like they added LT or something to their backfield. Their team is basically the same as last year yet they're Super Bowl contenders.

freddyg12 09-06-2007 10:17 AM

Re: ESPN Poll: Who wins NFC East?

Dallas was in control of the division until late in the season, then folded. As I posted earlier, I actually think that Parcells had a lot to do w/that as the team wore down.

I hope yall are right & they aren't that good, but they are returning a lot of young guys that are likely to be in their prime or close.

I don't understand why some people think it's unrealistic to predict improvement from one year to the next. Essentially that's what the analysts see for the boys & I agree. That of course doesn't mean we can't improve on par or better.
