F... Dish Network
About 3 months ago, I switched from Comcast to Dish Network. Before I switched I specifically asked about local broadcast channels in HD so that I could continue watching HD Football. I was assured that yes, any local programming that's broadcast in HD will come through their service in HD. Well, I don't watch any local programming or broadcast tv except for football so I haven't really used that for the last couple of months. When I went to watch some preseason football that was broadcast in HD last week, it was not coming through any of the feeds in anything but standard definition. I called Dish today to see wtf was going on. The customer service clown informed me that Dish Network DOESN'T HAVE THE GD RIGHTS TO HD BROADCAST IN MY AREA. So basically, I paid to have some worthless shit installed. I'm so pissed off right now. I'm debating on going back to Comcast or jumping to DirecTV. Any thoughts, suggestions?

Re: F... Dish Network
Directv is so much better.

Care to elaborate on that? lol I thought the programming is pretty much identical. The reason I chose Dish in the first place is they gave me a free HD DVR and another free HD Receiver... |
Re: F... Dish Network
negotiate with direct tv. explain to them how bad you want it, but tell them the dish offered you free stuff. right now i think direct offers just about everything in high def. and direct also has the nfl ticket

That what I'm doing. I called DirecTV and told them I wanted to switch but that they'd have to give me a deal to make up for the fact that I just paid to have Dish installed, blah blah blah. No luck yet, but I'll call back later. Right now, all they're willing to do is free HD receiver and install which is their regular promotion anyway. $200 for a HD DVR. |

More than that. By like 50 dollars for 250 channels or whatever... |

I thought the programming is pretty much identical. The reason I chose Dish in the first place is they gave me a free HD DVR and another free HD Receiver...[/QUOTE] BB, I've posted about this in other threads, but DirecTV is uncomparable to anything else available to us mere mortals. I don't have anything to gain by promoting DirecTV, and for all the good things I've said about them I should get a credit from them or something, but I've been with them for 9 years running. First, you'll have access to the NFL Network, and their programming includes all of the 'Skins pre-season games (albeit on a delayed basis). Secondly, I have had nothing but good experiences with their customer service. You can't say that about cable TV...period. I've recv'd two equip. upgrades, most recently for HD, over the last few years, and the cost? Free, as long as I didn't jump ship. As far as the local HD broadcasts, I'm not sure how that works. But, I do know that when I watched a few pre-season games that had the "HD" banner in the screen, I didn't get the HD broadcast in my area. Could truly be a licensing thing depending on your actual location, so maybe "The Dish" wasn't blowing smoke. Anyway, if you like watching football, DirecTV is second to none (ok, DirecTV reps out there, send me a check or something for my endorsement). :-) |
Re: F... Dish Network
DirecTV has the Sunday Ticket, what else do you need to know??

this is my first year with Directv, and I so excited, plus there adding like a gang of extra HD channel's this fall, plus I have the ticket with superfan, I've had no problems with Directv, the only problem I've had was when it rain, besides that, your better off getting, DirecTV, plus all my nfl ticket games or in beautiful HD........i've died and went to heaven |
Re: F... Dish Network
This will be my second full season with DirecTV. I love it, the Sunday Ticket is soooo freaking money.

Re: F... Dish Network
As a new member to Direct TV, I have been happy with the programing, and unhappy with the tech support.
I have the HD DVR and one day I came home to a green screen. I called DTV and they were not helpful. Finally I talked the lady into sending out a technician. I began troubleshooting myself and turns out it was just my HDMI and Componet connections that were a green screen. I called them back to let them know the normal AV was working, and the lady wanted to cancel my technician request as it was working. After arguing that 480i is not the same as 720p/1080i she left my ticket open. So Friday rolls around and I took time off work for the tech to show up. He never shows. I called in and talked to a helpful person and got $100 credit. While I was waiting on the tech I googled my answer and it turns out that my TV was the issue. Either way, DTV programing should be far superior once these new HD channels are added, and just be aware of their support. It is really hit or miss if you are going to get someone in the US or in India. |
Re: F... Dish Network
DirecTV is the ONLY ticket for NFL fans! I have had the NFL ticket since inception of the program some 9-10 years ago. Now with the HD and the Superfan there is nothing better! Go with DirecTV as they are the premier dish provider that can deliver your NFL fix!

If in question, just look at their truck. It will say something to the effect of: XYZ Company contracted by DirecTV. However, the one that installed my oval HD dish, as a FREE upgrade, was very cordial and went out of his way to get the job done. Here in Georgia, the pine tree rules and they are freakin' everywhere! So, that creates problems trying to connect with a geosynchronous (sp?) orbiting satellite. It's amazing what you learn when you watch way too much TV! :) |

Yeah, I had agreed to an 18 month commitment with a $300 early termination fee. But... I talked to 6 different people, and had to call the legal department of Dish Network but in the end, it worked. They refunded my installation fee and dissolved my 18 month contract with dish network without charging me the $300 early termination fee. I had to argue my ass off. I was on the phone with this prick who said the following interesting things: 1. Have you tried using a regular air antenna? my reply: (Why the fuck should I have to strap some other ugly thing on the outside of my house, I already have two damn satellite dishes) 2. Where in your legally binding contract does it say that you will get local channels in HD? my reply: (There was no written contract presented at the time of agreement as it was EXPLAINED TO ME OVER THE PHONE BY YOUR IDIOT SALES REP) 3. We are going to charge the account you used for your last payment for $399 for the early contract termination. my reply: (Good, do that. And when I get my lawyer and sue your ass for breach of contract, how long do you think it's going to take for you to get fired for doing that?) 4. Well, what do you want me to do about it? my reply: (Get this shit turned off and out of my fucking house immediately.) Long story short, no termination fee and I get the installation charges back so whatever. If anyone needs the number to Dish Corporate offices (the only ones who can release you from your contract) here it is: 1-888-241-2195. They're located in Denver, CO. So now I have to call DirecTV and see what I can get there... |
Re: F... Dish Network
Ok, I ordered the DirecTV. I hope it's all you guys say it is... I got 2 HD receivers, Sunday Ticket, the premium ticket package etc. They're running a promo right now where if you buy the Sunday Ticket, you get the rest of your programming free for those 4 months. So basically, you're getting the ticket for free, right? Also, I got a $100 online rebate and $50 gift card, along with free installation. I guess that's good... I'm really leery after dealing with Dish Network.

Sounds like a nice deal. Good luck! |
Re: F... Dish Network
I have had both in the past, currently I have Dish Network. Where I live, BFE, I was able to bundle my phone, internet and tv all in one with DishNetwork. I get unlimited long distance and the works on my phone which is good for me and my wife as she is from Erie, PA. and can talk to her mom when ever she wants. That is really the only reason that I left DirecTV.
But not to worry I still get my skins games, I go to my cousins house and watch on his sunday ticket. Bleed Burgundy, everyone is right about DirecTV. It is as good as they say. Also, after your contract is up with them call them and make as if you are going to leave their service for DishNETWORK and they will give you free programming for like 3 or 4 months to get you to stay. That is what my cousin did when I switched over. They gave him HBO, SHOWTIME, and all the other movie channels for free for like 4 months just to keep him, when in all actuallity he had no intentions of leaving to begin with... |
Re: F... Dish Network
Update: When I signed up online, my installation date wasn't until 9/18 :(
I called customer service this morning and rescheduled for tomorrow at 1 pm. I'll have it for the game on Sunday. I can't wait for the game. |
Re: F... Dish Network
You will love it BB.

I was a customer of theirs for 10 years and left due to their horrible customer service. |
Re: F... Dish Network
Thought I'd post a quick update. Sunday Ticket is amazing. I wasn't sure if I'd get all of the games in HD without buying the Superfan pack but so far I am. The service is good but what's with NFL Network not being in HD on DirecTV? Anyone know if that's one of the HD channels they're adding soon? I don't really like the Program Guide feature near as much as the one on Dish Network. The interface is kind of clunky and there's no option to create custom channel lists... (there was on Dish.) Overall though I'm very happy.
Also I just bought a 52" Aquos LCD which I'm putting on the wall tonight. So I feel like I'm getting a pretty good setup to watch the games. |

I didn't get Superfan which is why I was surprised to see the games in HD. I think you do pay extra if you want that. You can see in a previous post how I got the package as part of that deal they're offering right now. Not to be dumb but are you scrolling down past the sd feeds to the second section with the HD feeds? I don't know why I would get it and not you... Let me know. |

I didn't subscribe to the SuperFan package either, but weekend before last I noticed I had the channel that displays multiple games on one screen. I thought that was an "extra" and wondered why I was receiving that channel as I didn't originally order that. When you mention "sd feeds," what is that specifically? If I scroll past the normal NFL Ticket channels (700's), do I have other options that relate to HD broadcasts or something? I'll look back at your previous posts to hopefully understand better, but like you, I recently recv'd upgrades from DirecTV that included among other things, the HD DVR. Yet, I only rec'v certain channels that are in HD (although I see where that will be expanded sometime soon). |

No, it's still in the 700's. SD means standard definition. Basically, they list all of the games first in SD and then further down they'll list the same game again. The second listing for that game is the hd feed. |
Re: F... Dish Network
Hey does anyone know when all the new HD channels are going to launch on DTV? It was supposed to be this month I thought.

Re: F... Dish Network
I am in the Military and Am deployed to Iraq.
Before i left i sent my equipment back to Dish Net. and canceled my services well over the next 70 Day I received over $800 in charges for unrecieved equipment and canceling under a contract. After long calls from Iraq, and having my father back in the states make some calls, tracking down a return to sender package that went to a house where no one lives, and explaining the Cival servicemans Act, 77 days after I left the States I was finally refunded all $800... Moral of the Story, get Cable.. I know there is no NFL network on Comcast.. but that is what Bars are for. |
Re: F... Dish Network
I've had directtv for a while, still hate the rain part, sometimes it goes out when its just cloudy and the rain hasnt hit yet,but I'm sure dish network does the same thing. The nfl ticket is the bomb but the price pisses me off,it goes up every yr,when it first started I think i paid 99 bucks for it,now its up to 250 bucks and another 100 bucks if you want the superfan package.I paid for superfan last yr but they gave a a 50.oo discount, this yr no such luck so i said fuck it,thats just too much money,I never used any of the other features it came with,I just wanted it in hd.One cool thing they did add to the superfan package is being able to stream the games on your computer, anybody tried that? I wonder how good that is.The first week I got the games in hd,but not this week, the first week was a free preview of the superfan package
|
Re: F... Dish Network
I need to rant some more, what really pisses me off is i paid 2000 bucks for a 12' satellite dish back in 94,got all the nfl games for free on it for 2 yrs, thats why I bought it,so I could see my skins, then the nfl switched to sunday ticket and I was fucked big time,no more games for free and my 2000.00 dish is now obsolete

I have said this in other post but it really does matter where you live. For me the best is Comcast in Harford County MD, I get both DC and B-more Fox channels all in HD. I may miss one Skins game a year and I just head to the bar. Now if you live outside of the DC viewing yes I would get the ticket, it would be cheaper then going to the bar every Sunday to watch the game, plus call me crazy but sitting in a bar on a nice sunny Sunday afternoon is just not my idea of fun. I told DirecTV to f-off after dealing with all the upgrades and poor customer service. There is a lot waiting when it comes to DTV and upgrading of equipment. Also, now to get all the HD channels with the 5 LNB you have to put a dish on your roof that could sail a Tall Ship it so damn big! Don't let me get started on their customer service or lack of. Again, figure out what works best in your area. Also, remeber they are all basterds it is just a matter of picking the lesser of two evils. |

Plus, after sitting in a bar for 3 hours, and consuming mass quantities of adult beverages, the ride home afterward would be very risky at best. And if it is a "sunny Sunday afternoon," thats when the DVR really is justified. |
Re: F... Dish Network
Superfan is the shit! I have it and watch all the games in HD glory. The new 8 screen Game Mix, Fantasy Stats, Red Zone Channel in HD...man, I just can't get enough of it!
