Yea I think its really cool. Its also cool that they are doing it all season long at every home game. I love when they play the old highlights on the jumbotron. Im so ready for Redskins football.

Re: Theisman Honored on Sunday

Does anyone know when Art Monk will be honored? I think every single fan should have a sign that reads "Art belongs in the Hall of fame" and another that says "Peter King sucks!!". It would be great if it was a nationally televised game.

Gotta love Joe. I am upset that we won't see him on MNF anymore. I always liked his style.

Also - free DVD for all attendees. I see that being on the internet by late Monday.

Not to take anything away from Joe, but Riggo should be honored Sunday. I mean what a more perfect game to be honored against the Dolphins. The Fins fans would hate seeing that play again. Like I have to tell you that play... Forth and Long. My dad is a Fins fan and i think he still has nightmares about that play.

Edit: Here is the best play of all time
YouTube - John Riggins 4th down TD run

had theismann not batted down that tipped pass from kim bokamper's grasp, riggins would not have been a factor cause the skins would have lost.

Yeah I know and greatful for Joe for that, but still. I am not saying Joe should not be honored at all.

Amen to that, plus add to that the irony of Theismann having been originally drafted by the Dolphins back in 72 ('73?)

This is good for joe since he is the last true franchise qb this team has had.

Good for Joey T. Love or hate him, this guy was a true company man. Congrats Joe, and thanks again for the great memories.

Theismann was one tough SOB. You gotta be tough to wear that one bar face mask. Good for Joe. He is a true Redskin.

Yeah, Theismann was the MAN!!!!!! I don't think the Skins will ever have another franchise QB. I only see JC lasting 2-3 seasons with us.

I think Joe was the only QB that ever returned punts. Do you young guys remember that?

Re: Theismann Honored on Sunday

I will prob wear my Theisman jersey... Even though Joe's ego always came before the team, he was a great QB for Gibbs in his first tenure. As a kid I acquired several autographed photos and still write my cursive "J" just like Joe!

I had forgotten about that. I couldn't remember if he had returned punts or if he had punted.

He did both. He returned punts for Coach George Allen because it was the only way he could get on the field. He punted for Coach Gibbs when the regular punter got hurt against the Bears some year. His punt, if I remember correctly, went fo 1 yard or -1 yard or something. It was a big play for the other team. I can't for the life of me remember what the game was. It wasn't a playoff game. If anyone has the scoop on that, let me know.

I remember that game like it was yesterday. Late September 1985, Redskins had a 10 point lead then the tide suddenly turned when Willie Gault returned a kickoff 99 yards for a TD. And I remember Jim McMahon catching a TD pass from Walter Payton. Bears won 45-10.

I think it was the first time I realized the Skins might actually play a season and not make the playoffs

Okay. That was the Bears at the peak of their powers. They were a real juggernaut that year.

The fact that we were able to beat that team in Chicago two years straight (1987 and 1988) in January stands as one of the great achievements in NFL history.

Absolutely, not many people remember that the Bears went 14-2 the year after they went 15-1 and won it all. And the Skins beat them in the playoffs!

Re: Theismann Honored on Sunday

Joey T. might have an ego but he was the first Redskin QB of the superbowl era to give us our first SB. Tough he was, anybody that returns punts and wears that funky single bar and gets punished by LT is tough. I know Sonny and Billy were great but I love JT!!

Sports Machine 1986, kind of a retro look at his career while hes trying to come back from the leg injury. Dude tried hard to make it back.

wasnt that play Riggins ran it was on 4th and 1, not 4th and long as stated earlier.. also i believe Joe Theismann's best play of his career was possibly where he batted his own pass down at about the skins' 2 yard line in the superbowl. if it that was intercepted and returned for score by dolphins the game would have been different i believe.(also stated earlier.)

I enjoyed Theismann when he was on the field. He brought excitement to the game and was a real leader for the Skins. Theismann the analyst is a different story. I prefer to remember Theismann for what he did when he put on the helmet.

I love JT. The real JT.

Also am the only one who got up early because he is too excited about the game? I know I sound stupid, but I couldnt stay in bed past 10 because I keep on thinking about the game. This is going to be the longest 3 1/2 hours ever.

How about an official game thread and chat sometime soon so I can let out some of this energy lol.

I'm watching NFL Sunday Countdown on ESPN in about a half hour. That's always entertaining. Then off to a sports bar to watch some Skins football.

Best idea I've heard all week. I'll give the benefit of the doubt, maybe Riggo was booked.
I think Joe was the only QB that ever returned punts. Do you young guys remember that?
yes i do and do u remember why? the year he joined us there was a preseason player strike so Joey T played at QB while Sonny and Billy were striking -- after the game when asked by reporters what he thought the rest of the season held he said" there will be plenty of room on the bench for Billy and Sonny" -- when Billy heard this he called Sonny and told him - Sonny's reply was " don't worry about that kid we'll have him returning kicks" -- and so it went!!!! i LOVE it , Sonny and Billy were so cool:spank:
