Name your week 1 MVP
Portis 17 carries, 98 yards, 1 TD. Who needs the preseason??
Randle El: 5 catches, 162 yards. Do we finally have a #2?? Rocky McIntosh: all over the field with a forced fumble, sack, and 9 tackles. Suisham: 3/3 with the game winner. |
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
Gotta be ARE.
He stepped up. No other way to put it. It was his day today, and he caught virtually everything that was thrown to him. Even had a decent punt return. Brandon Lloyd needs to be cut. |
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
I'm glad my boy El did well, and my boy AC got a sack!
I'll give this one to Suisham though. I'll tell you what though, someone else who had a really strong game was Pete Kendall. Skins were running behind him and Samuels all day. |
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
Hell yeah.. I think I have to give it to ARE this week. But Suisham it very close behind.
|
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
I think Stephon Heyer needs honorable mention.
|
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
ARE stpped up as the #2 in week 1. I hope he can continue
|
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
When healthy, Clinton Portis is the best player on the team. Period. He proved that again today.
|
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
Defintely ARE, he stepped up and produced while Cooley, Lloyd, and Moss got shutdown.
|

Agreed 100%. Not easy shift from LT to RT, he also wasn't even expecting to play. He performed well. |
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
ARE accounted for what, 80% of our passing yards? He's definately the MVP of the game. If an Ed Block Courage award was doled out on a weekly basis, I'd give on to Heyer for stepping up as an UFA rookie LT who played well at RT.
|
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
I had to go with Rocky here. He was a wrecking ball on D all day. Without him I don't think we would have won. ARE got a lot of yards, which is great to see, but how many of them turned into nothing. Not blaming him, just not sure if he was MVP.

I have to agree and with the EXCELLENT rotation with Betts today this running duo is going to be a force this year! Keep em fresh and run the hell out of it! |
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
I loved what I saw in every single one of those players today. I had to decide between Suisham and Randle El (I knew buying his jersey would pay off). Great game though, my heart was about to bust out of my rib cage.
|
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
Suisham because while others started he finished!
|
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
I went with CP. Betts was solid but CP can just break things open like he did on the TD run.

CP was a close second for me. He averaged 5.8 ypc against a very good defense; tallying almost 100 yards on 17 carries. |

And added a nice killer block on that Campbell scramble. I just love how he goes all out. |
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
I wonder if the Phins fans still think hes injured? I also feel so sorry for pretty much all of the fantasy owners that had him on their team and were told by pretty much every "expert" not to start him.

He is contributing nicely to my week 1 winning team! |
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
ARE! When we needed someone to step up offensively, he did, not moss, not cooley...ARE!
Portis would get my #2...he came through at the end, and I personally think Gibbs made three big mistakes when he kept Betts in late in the 4th, and when he called a time out on 3rd down on our last possession in the 4th giving Miami a lot more time when we ultimately punted, and when he should have ran Portis in OT instead of relying on Suisham to win the game on first down. (luckily all three didn't come back to bite us) Portis should get more PT than Betts hands down! I like the idea of having two runners, but Portis should be the "main guy" and right now it seems 50/50. |
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
Hello all, it's been a while since my last post. I have no free time because I'm in a police academy. I think Swishy should get MVP though, man was clutch. I don't understand why they made him kick that 40 yarder in OT, why didn't they run the ball some more?
|

See, as much as I love his effort... that was a dangerous block. From what I remember it was totally unnecessary, and it was very close to illegal. I love the attitude, just think he should be smarter than that. It was a huge drive, and a penalty would have killed us. |
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
You know...we could just give it to the entire D...the best I've seen them play since 05!
|
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
I give it to the rush defense. more importantly Fletcher and McIntosh.
|

Gibbs said he didn't want to risk a penalty pushing them out of range. |

Still, I think even when he does Betts will still play a large role, for the season I think it will be 60/40 Portis to Betts. |
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
mine goes to Suisham, he was pretty clutch when we needed him. It would be Randle El but the passing game wasn't very effective today other than the touchdown drive. I surely hope Moss and Cooley don't play like that all year, i was pretty disappointed in them. The defense did exceptionally well today, although Smoot should've easily had that pick at the end that would've let us win in the game in regulation.

But Portis looked a lot better than Betts and I think he looks like he is in "football shape"...it's now obvious to me that Portis was just trying to sit out preseason. Especially when he made a pre game comment about "football hasn't changed much since last year". I'd prefer a more 70/30 from Portis / Betts...I'd even take a 60/40, but I am hoping we don't see anymore 50/50. |

I have faith, I started him. It is hard to own a guy on your team though. |
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
Randle El. It would be nice if he could win it about three more times.
|
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
I voted for Suisham. This guy could be the best we've looked out there since Chip Lohmiller. Great pick-up F/O.
|
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
You win games by simply out scoring your competition, and he did that well today.
|
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
ARE! He was so much fun to watch today.
|
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
Suisham put it through the uprights to seal the deal. Game Ball
CP and El both close seconds. Where was Lloyd when ya need him......? Nevermind different thread.... |

Re: Name your week 1 MVP
Can't say enough about Rocky Mac and Montgomery today. While most of the defense looked like it was last season all over again, I am really encouraged by the second year talent on that defense. A little hope for the future.
|
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
Oh yes, Montgomery looked good too. He wasn't in on too many tackles but he had some double teams on him.

It was night and day different from last year. |
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
Our running game won the game and Portis looked like regular old Portis. He's the reason we won. I like Betts a lot but he isn't anywhere near in the same class as CP. We are a totally different team when he plays. He even pass blocks awesomely.
|
Re: Name your week 1 MVP
It was night and day different from last year.
What about the missed tackles and poor coverage? Is that not what hurt us last year?
