QB Battle
Although everyone in the media seems to have given Brunell the starting job at qb already, how much do you think Ramsey will have to outplay Brunell for Gibbs to name him the starter?
|
I think he would just have to edge him out to get the job. But based on both of their histories, I give it a 1 in 1000 shot. A couple guys already noted in the first practices that Ramsey was "slow" or "hesitant". That has been his biggest problem in the past, and will take time to overcome.
|
I think Ramsey will have to really outplay Brunell to win the job. If it's neck and neck Brunell will get the nod based on his experience. Ramsey really needs to outshine him, I don't see it happening.
|
Ramsey always wants the big play, to go deep... brunell and hasslebeck are much better about getting the ball off quickly, and brunell is better on short dump offs because of that.
but it really doesn't matter cause portis thinks they're both jerks :D |

As soon as Ramsey can shake his bad habit of holding on to the ball too long, I will be his biggest fan. At that time I will prefer Ramsey over Brunell. Ramsey's playing style at this point in his career reminds me alot of Drew Bledsoe, they both need to be quicker with the ball, read the defense and throw it...keep the chains moving. They both take to many sacks. Gibbs will teach Ramsey to be a great QB by learing to count the seconds after the snap and get rid of it after 5-6 seconds, regardless if he has to just throw an incompletion. |
I think Ramsey will wind up the STATER CAUSE BRUNNELL WIL, GET HURT, gibbs will ahve in right he reminds me of rypien Willimas or Schroeder but he can move better. I am looking for the new posse to shine this year.
|
It's Brunnell's job to lose!! I see them both playing this year!! Can Brunnell stay healthy??
|
PR is the 3rd best QB on this team. For a 1st round pick he has proven to be a major disappointment.

huh? If Ramsey has been a disappointment than what does that make Carr and Harrington?? Ramsey is still green and has only 16 starts under his belt. He nearly got killed in Spurrier's joke of an offense but he kept getting up for more. Under the circumstances I'd say it's very premature to label him disappointing. He would be the #1 guy on alot of teams around the league. The same can't be said of Hasselbeck. |

But I do think he really has to outplay Brunnell to start, at least early on. |
I love all this talk about the QB battle because it actually means that we have a couple of good guys to choose from. Both guys will play this year (what are the chances an NFL starter makes it through the whole season without getting nicked up) and the fact that we have these two helps our chances. I think Brunell will get the nod initially, but I can see Ramsey playing later in the year, ESPECIALLY IN THE PLAYOFF RUN! Here's hoping.
|
Carr is on an expansion team and has played well considering, Harrington plays for the wost organization in the league. I'd say cant tell on Carr and a bit of a disappointment for Harrington.
Maybe its too soon to call him a disappointment (in the long term) but as of right now he is the 3rd best QB on this team and that is disappointing for a 1st round pick. |

What are you smoking? |
Ramsey has proved that he can play in the NFL. He had rough year last season, but it was only his 2nd year. Plus he was beat up badly and had no running game to support him. Alot of teams have alot of respect for him because for all the beatings he took. He kept on getting up and never criticized the O-Line or the coaching staff. The kid is tough and he will be a good QB in this league.
If he's a dissapointment, then why was Chicago, and Miami interested in trading for him? |
Irish
You might want to look at Joe Crisp's camp reports, or the newspaper reports.
Both P.Ram, & Brunnel are better than Hasselbeck. Ram is faster on the throw, and better at getting back and set than Brunnel. Which means, HOF Coach Gibbs likes Brunnel for his smarts & leadership, and P. Ram for his grittiness. A team simply has to have two, quality starting QB's. Neither would start and end the entire season! Along the way, the starter will get dinged up, and need replacing. My choice would not have been to trade for Brunnel. But HOF Coach Gibbs has a different plan. Depth is key, and is critical. |
Through the first 6 games last year he was leading the league in passing yards.
I think it's a huge stretch to call him the 3rd best QB, Hasselbeck is solid but nothing spectacular. If Hasselbeck wins the #2 job I'll eat some big time crow, but I don't see any chance of that happening. Irish, what has happened so far in camp that would make you proclaim Ramsey a disappointment and #3 on the depth chart? It's not like he's stunk up the joint while Brunell and Hasselbeck have shined. They've all had their moments. Brunell hasn't been all that sharp and neither has Hasselbeck. They all seem to be on the same page right now. |
Fellas I don't think Irish is saying Hasselbeck is the 2nd best QB on the team. I think he's really talking about Rod Gardner! The man is Hall of Fame bound with that touchdown throwing arm of his. LOL
Seriously though, considering where many 1st round QBs have been going into their third year I'd say Ramsey is doing just fine. And let's not kid ourselves the last couple of years we can't say we've been a definitively better organization than the Lions |

Just flat wrong. Hasselbeck has one advantage over Ramsey, and that is his very quick release. Ramsey definitely needs to improve in this area, but is far better overall. Hasselbeck has been very eratic. (I hope you were not saying Hamden is 2nd best LOL.) Gibbs has made it clear he does not want to lose Ramsey, and that he has a good future with the Redskins. I would love to see Hasselbeck get an opportunity to prove himself in the NFL because I thing he has real potential, but if he stays in Washington, it may be a long wait. |
The last few days I had read all about how TH is doing great while PR & MB are looking so-so. Todays paper made it sound like MB & PR looked good in last night's super secret scrimmage game at potomac falls high school.
In the end I think TH would be a better back-up qb than PR because he does not see himself as a potential star while PR believes he is a star in the making and would not deal well with being a back-up. I am certain that if the skins keep only 2 qbs then TH and his piece of ass wife will be riding off into the sunset. |

Classy comment. Real nice. |

Plus, most reports have said or implied that he is actually doing better than MB in training camp so far. What do you have against this guy? |
Irish seems to have something against everyone.....he's kind of bitter.
|
I really can't see them keeping only 2 QBs
|
they have six qbs right now. Brunell, ramsey, hasselback, gardner, tupa and Hamdam. lol
Whoever said that Ramsey is a perfect fit for gibbs because he looks downfield first has a very different opinion then I would give. From what I saw last year, and from what they said in camp, Ramsey looks short first. He didnt used to do that, but ever sinec he started getting killed he would be afraid to wait for the deep route to deveolpe. He holds onto the ball long enough, but he doesnt look downfield. i want ramsey to start. I want us to have an experienced backup to help him and be a great backup. But Ramsey is just as good as Brunell now,b ut has more upside. Ramsey was great the begining of last year when he had confidence. He just needs that back, along with all the experience hes gained since then. |
Ramsey was great the begining of last year when he had confidence.
agreed. |
Joe C., has Hamdan had any rep's? If so, how has he looked?
|
you can check the play by plays, but so far he gets very very few reps and looks very much like a 4th string QB..
|
i think he had like one pass for a pick on one of the days. Or was that hasselback... one of them has a 0/1 with a pick.
|
the reps have been MB 9/PR 9/TH 6/GH 1-3 or something like that...
|
Here's an interesting thing I've noticed.... Everyone says PR holds on to the ball too long (which we all know he did last year), but according to most reports I've read, he has been showing a much quicker release than MB. Maybe it isn't taking as long as many of us thought it would to get the bad habits he developed from Spurrier's offense out of his system.....or maybe it's just because he got killed so much last year... ;)
:httr: |
well thast great news that his progressing. I hope he wins the starting job and Gibbs holds true to his word that the best will win. Theres nothing wrong with a good backup.
Those reps seem kinda low dont they, only 9 reps for teh starters. |
