Carlos with an INT?!

I've dogged him quite a bit over the past few seasons but today he really impressed me, and when he caught the INT and took it back I honestly couldn't believe it. Hopefully he's turned a corner. Nice job Carlos!

I was just as shocked as you are. He actually broke on a ball and held on to it.

I have to eat some crow in regards to Carlos Rogers. I haven't been too high on him lately, but that was a great INT return for a TD.

Did you guys see Moss and Portis laughing when Rogers took it in for a score?
*gasp* one by Rogers. Rogers will jump a route and take his back for six.
Lets not go overboard...Detroit was playing chuck-it football just to finish the game.

Re: Carlos with an INT?!

The INT was icing on the cake, and long overdue--must be pretty sweet for Carlos. But he played well all game long, with some hard hits and good position play. I think it really helps, as I said earlier in the week, to have Smooty back. I think it makes Carlos better! He's not so hung out to dry, and he can play ball without thinking so much.

PS See Smooty's locker room interview on skins.com. Awesome. Sure, he talks a lot. But, man, can he talk!

Yeah, but considering Rogers actually caught it AND returned it for a TD is great for him in my book.

I thought he made a nice break on the ball though. It's not like he was playing centerfield

When Rogers makes a similar play in a big situation I will gladly eat crow.. Until then he's still a borderline bust in my eyes.. But credit for making the play and completing it in the endzone today..

It was nice to see Rogers get take that one to the house..reminded me of the skins teams of the 80's that would get a big lead, then somebody would take a turnover all the way back near the end..and Andre carter fininshing the game with ANOTHER sack.....BEAUTIFUL!

It was hessy.

I need to see a clip of the pick. We were walking out when it happened :( because our ride was leaving and we were in danger of being left at the stadium. This is exactly the reason that I hate not driving myself to the games.

well grillz, he was hanging back, and made a very nice break on the ball. and remember, always drive. or find out the rules, if your not

Re: Carlos with an INT?!

I'll give Carlos his props, he played a good game today and he put the icing on the cake at the end. I was just suprised he actually caught the ball lol, the touchdown was just extra credit. I really hope that improves his confidence a lot, and he starts taking chances on balls like that.

dmek25 10-08-2007 08:22 AM

Re: Carlos with an INT?!

its funny you should say that. i really don't think that confidence is ever an issue with Rogers. i don't have anything to base that on. just by the way he carries him self

Well, as much as it sucked to miss the last 3 minutes of the game, I had driven to the UMD game the day before and I still had to drive back to Baltimore from College Park. So I was happy to not have to drive through FedEx traffic after the game.

Yes, I did. You could read Santana's lips "he caught it?"

That was a great play and he deserves credit for playing well this game. I won't say anything negative about him at this time because he truly played "his guts out" today. Congrats Carlos, let's hope u can keep it up.

Re: Carlos with an INT?!

I really think that was a mental hurdle for him to get over. Think that pick and return will really be a confidence booster which is exactly what he needed. We get another gun-slinger, pass first offense in GB next week, lets see what he can do...httr...

Re: Carlos with an INT?!

Hopefully JLaC of TheWasPost is eating a little crow today as well after Roger's INT. Among his usual Redskin Insider pessimistic crap, he asked: "...Is Carlos ready for prime time?" I guess time will tell, but he looked good yesterday Mr. LaC!

Re: Carlos with an INT?!

Carlos almost had such a play in the playoff game in seattle in 05, but dropped it. Would his career be different now if he'd made that play?

Like yall said, this could be a turning point for him. He's been playing well this year. Even w/the Plaxico td, he was in good position just didn't make the play on the ball.

Earlier in the game he made a great break on a ball that hit his head & Evans almost picked it. If CR can improve his timing a little on the ball, he'll have some more big plays. By & large he's been in good position & that's most of the job.

Monksdown 10-08-2007 04:29 PM

Re: Carlos with an INT?!

I remember that play. He wasnt going for the ball. He thought the receiver was going to catch it. He was timing his hit. Helmet first, so that hit the ball where the receiver's hands would have been, the top of carlos' dome.

Keep your head up son!

Re: Carlos with an INT?!

Someone mention seeing Brandon Lloyd saying "he caught it"? (perhaps in another thread?) I am relieved that Rogers finally made the right read and actually caught the ball (much like the aforementioned Lloyd comments). Rogers however, should NEVER hold the ball with 1 hand and never perform any cool set the football down move. He's let more touchdowns bounce off his hands, chest and shoulders than Mike Sellers has scored in the last 3 seasons. He shoulda just been happy to catch the ball. I bet that little Deion move was rehearsed 3 years ago...

Re: Carlos with an INT?!

Not to take anything away from Carlos, but Kitna broke about three cardinal rules on that pass. He didn't step towards his target, he didn't go through his progression, and worst of all, he threw to the outside about two and a half seconds late.

Great play by Carlos, but on a throw that no NFL QB would ever make in a competitive game.

I like to look at it as making the play that was there to make. We have been very critical of Rogers for not making the plays that we expect him to make. When he finally makes one, we are critical of the situation. I say nice job CR!!!

I'm glad Carlos got the pick and took it to the house as all of you are. But the reason I'm happy though is because I'm actually a fan of the guy and I've always been high on Rogers. I just like the fact that some of you have to eat crow now. Carlos has had a productive year so far. He's been good in coverage and he's been smacking people. Also many people haven't pointed out that he hasn't been picked on as much as Springs or Smoot. QBs rarely throw on the Rogers side, but since fans have been stuck on hating the guy, many of them don't want to acknowledge it. Great game Carlos! Keep it up so the rest of the haters can keep on eating crow!

I like Rogers too but I would not go as far as saying that QB's are shying away from him. I have always thought that Rogers was kind of forcing the plays and causing him to drop balls and if he just relaxed a little it would help.
