I Was Wrong When...

I said it was a mistake to sign London Fletcher
I said Brandon Lloyd would have about 600 yards receiving last year and be our big play WR
I said Kenny Wright was a smart pickup by the Redskins to play Nickel ("Like having another starter!")
I said Amobi Okoye was overrated
I said the Bucs would start this season 0-6

And so on. Point is, I've been "right" (Marcus Washington, Randle El, Andre Carter) and I've been wrong countless times on this site. Just about all of us have. There isn't a single person on this site who has posted with relative regularity and can claim to have never been wrong.

So why the point of this thread? To point out that there's no shame in admitting you're wrong and to dispel any ridiculous notion that I or anyone else here just scours threads looking to point out when anyone else is wrong. Fact is, I (and every other mod) read 99% of all posts on this site. We have been for years, we have to. It's our responsibility. We notice patterns but none of us go looking to find things that are wrong.

But since there are some (one) people here who think (incorrectly) that my only purpose here is to point out when everyone else is wrong, I thought I'd start a thread pointing out a few times when I've been wrong.

Guess what? I will be wrong again...and so will you.

...I said Carlos Rogers sucked and would never amount to anything. I can't remember actually saying it, but I remember thinking it a lot.

Re: I Was Wrong When...

I am completely surprised by Randle El so far. I thought he would be good for 30-40 catches tops, and it seems he's on pace for at least twice that. I was wrong and I'm happy to admit it!

I was wrong when....shit, I'm always wrong.

Re: I Was Wrong When...

Also, I thought we were going to thump the Giants and at halftime I was feeling pretty good about that prediction. :(

In a drunken stupor the night before that game I remember telling my wife I was confident the Skins were going to start the season 6-0.

Re: I Was Wrong When...

I hope I was wrong when I argued that Gibbs needed to stop coaching midway through last season because he seemed too lack a killer instinct and the passion he used to have.
So far, I was wrong to think that we didn't have enough pass rushing ability to win more than a couple of games. I really wanted us to draft Okoye (who I still like) instead of LaRon (who I couldn't be happier with), but so far I'm happy with the results.
I was wrong for thinking that Brandon Lloyd would actually be decent this season.

And finally, I was also wrong when I pooped in a bag and hid it in my office.

Re: I Was Wrong When...

I was wrong about Matt Schaub, although that could change in the long run.

I was wrong in thinking Brandon Lloyd would be a contributor.

I was wrong about Gregg Williams ability to adjust his scheme.

I remember thinking Kenny Wright was gonna be a good pick up as well...I still think it was a smart pick up...he just didn't play up to what we wanted

Re: I Was Wrong When...

I was wrong calling Laron Landry a bad pick.
I was wrong wanting to keep Mark Brunell in for so long.
I was wrong for harking on the execution, and exonerating the play calling.
I will be wrong for predicting the Redskins to go 8-8 this season.
I was wrong for drinking and starting this thread

I, for one, have never been wrong. (The key is to post in very careful and vague language, and never to predict scores... ;) )

Maybe I'll run for congress or something.

AMD: Hey, if ya gotta poop in a bag and hide it in your office, ya gotta poop in a bag and hide it in your office. These things happen! Let he who is without sin cast the first poop-bag, as they (sort of) say.

I love this thread.

I was wrong when I thought that coming out of college Ryan Leaf would be better than Peyton Manning;

I was really wrong when I predicted it would take LeBron James at least 2 years before he really contributed in the NBA and he might be a total Bust;

I was wrong about Chris Wilson, hey, he made the team.

I too, share the wrongness of predicting big things for Lloyd.

I'd love to come back to this thread at the end of the season and say, "I was wrong for my premature wrongness concerning Lloyd."

I was wrong about Frost being a horrible punter(although I was right the next year in assuming aliens abducted him and did some kind of alien things to him that made him much much better).

I was wrong about our Oline and Joe Bugel. Man have they stepped up big this year.

I was wrong when:

-I said that LL was a waste of a pick and that Okoye would have been a better fit
-I said that we weren't going to have a pass rush
-I predicted that Michael Vick would someday take the Falcons to the Superbowl
-I predicted an 8-8 season finish (i hope at least that we exceed that)

I said Michael Boulware was going to be the best LB/S drafted in his class. In 2003, I said Ramsey would, eventually, be a Pro Bowler. I said Rod Gardner was a great #2.

Re: I Was Wrong When...

In kindergarten, I voted for Jimmy Carter in the school's mock election.

I thought bringing in Al Noga was a great idea in 1993.

I also liked the Brandon lloyd signing.

More recently, I thought it would be suicide for the Redskins to rush only four against Detroit. The secondary sure surprised me.

In fact, I remember that an announcer once said that Ramsey reminded him of Favre and I went into the old "I told you so..." routine for my friends. I was wrong.

Side note, does anyone want to buy a Ramsey replica jersey?

Re: I Was Wrong When...

*I was wrong when I said we should get rid of Brunell this year. QBs are dropping like flies this year and he's a great insurance policy.

*I was wrong about GW not adjusting his scheme to maximize his players. The game plan v. Detroit was brilliant and he made Martz look very average.

*I was wrong about the Chargers being the most talented team in the NFL. I still think they are talented, but obviously Marty is a helluva coach.

*I was wrong about some of you on Warpath. Some of you are smarter than I thought, and then some of you...oh boy, some of you....

I did, but I turned it into a half-shirt last year for Halloween. I was a Redskins-Redneck, with the half-shirt, crazy pants, and a mullet wig.

When I said Dallas would win 4 games (obviously)
When I said Marc Bulger would win the MVP award
When I said Byron Leftwich would win comeback player of the year (Altrhough in my defense, the Jacksonville QB is having one hell of a season)
When I took Frank Gore with the 4th overall pick in one of my fantasy leagues
When I took Cedric Benson with the 12 overall pick in the Warpath FF League
I think thats about it....

Predictions are by nature faulty, but those who go out on a limb and make an educated gamble will win my, and most others respect, even if they are wrong once for every time they are right. People who want to follow the norm and be wrong all the time can get a job working for Sports Illustrated. Then I can make fun of them.

I was wrong when I put my moms watch in the dish washer to see if it was water proof.

And I was wrong when I picked the Panthers to meet the Redskins in the NFC championship game. (Panthers are not getting there.)

You were wrong? But that means intangible qualities don't exist because that can't be measured on a graph...
