Taylor likely to rehire Rosenhaus

I was wondering how Taylor would react when I heard how much some of the guys drafted after him received (Rothlisberger received more for less years today too).

WTF??? Ok, I'm afraid now, I'm seriously concerned that this kid is a little confused. I'm sitting here, with my mouth open wondering "WTF?" over and over again. Rosenhaus must be pissed, seeing as he missed out on a percentage of that contract. If this guy starts growing dreadlocks and wearing his helmet during interviews, I'm off the Sean Taylor bandwagon.

All of those "huge" contracts are incentive laden deals. Even Eli Manning's contract is only really worth $45 mil without the incentives. How is Taylor's deal structured?

Somehow this doesn't surprise me. I was just talking about this yesterday with Matt, after I had a conversation with one prominent Redskins player who strongly criticized (to put it mildly!) the deal that Mato and Moorad negotiated for Taylor. I had a feeling this move was imminent, considering that another player would be so adamant about his opinion of the deal, which leads me to believe that it has been a topic of locker room conversation, and perhaps a source of embarrassment for Taylor.

Seeing as you are on the inside........What is your opinion on the situation..Is it ok to become worried....... :confused:

This is starting to get crazy at this point. And it does make me worry. Can a player get a contract and then hold out a week later for more money!?!?!? Im not sure what arguments are going to come from this, no sense saying we should have picked Winslow because he wont sign for a while.

The deals that have been signed this year are crazy. I knew there was a lot of big names coming out this year but damn, these are some huge deals.

When you look at the contract he signed, it's easy to see who got the best end of the deal. Especially when you consider his spot in the draft and all the hype surrounding him. He could have, and probably should have, received alot more.

Snyder takes care of his players. At this point he just needs to play and show everyone that he can be a star. Once hes a star then he can talk again.

He has a contract that was negotiated in good faith-- regardless of its value in relation to the contracts recently signed by other top draft picks-- and a reneg holdout (which is what I assume most folks are concerned about) would be an extremely bad move on his part at this point, both in terms of his progression as a player, and his relationship with the team and the fans.

Taylor's performance in camp thus far has been unspectacular, and just to underscore that fact, Andre Lott is ahead of him on the depth chart. While Taylor may be very upset by the deal that was negotiated for him, it wouldn't make any sense for him to pull himself out of camp, especially when it appears he has so much work to do to get to where he should be.

I think the most important thing for Taylor to do right now is to quickly hire another agent, probably Rosenhaus, and stay focused on football. It also wouldn't hurt if the media would get off his back-- but it would help if he would open up and let the world know what's going on inside his head. He's simply increasing the pressure on himself, as well as the media's scutiny and curiosity, by making these decisions without explanation or clarification.

And Pastabelli is due in camp tomorrow....he must be close to orgasm..

Tough weekend for Eugene Mato. His one other client, Plaxico Burress, fired him as well. What does that say about Mato?

I have a very uneasy feeling about this, as I am sure you all do as well.... this guy better not be a freakin bust.

I don't know if I'd say he's struggled, but he hasn't played consistently well, either. He's shown some brief flashes of the tremendous athleticism he brings to the table, but he has yet to become a consistent factor in practice. I would say he does seem to be lagging a bit as far as the conditioning side of it, and obviously, for any rookie there is going to be a significant adjustment period to the speed, terminology and complexity of the game in the NFL.

I still think, barring any setbacks (whether or not this latest agent situation becomes a distraction remains to be seen), he will begin to step up his game, as he grows more comfortable with everything and his conditioning improves. It might be this week, it might not be until the end of the preseason, but he will come around. This coaching staff is top notch, and they will ensure that he is prepared by the time the regular season rolls around. If he hasn't progressed significantly by then, then we may want to start worrying. But don't expect him to be a Roy Williams or Ed Reed right out of the box, either. He's a rookie, and it's going to take some time.

I don't think it's easy to say who got the good-bad end of the deal. Safeties are almost never in the top 10, let alone top 5, draft picks. The contracts awarded to draft picks are influenced by the position played by the draftee. It just so happens that aside from punters and kickers, safeties have lower salaries than every other position on the field.

If he cashes in on his incentives and he doesn't restructure his contract, Taylor's deal could be worth an average of over $6 million a year. Considering that a franchise tagged safety gets $4.1 million (see Donovan Darius), I'd say Taylor got a pretty good deal.

We gave Coles a $13 million SB and Taylor gets about that in roster and signing bonuses. Coles is a star, Taylor isn't. If we paid any more for Taylor I'd say we got our asses ripped off.

In any event, I'm far more concerned about how Taylor is playing on the field than any of this other stuff (i.e. agent hiring and firing and fines from the NFL). If he gets beaten out by Ohalete or Lott, I'm going to be just a little more than ticked off. It's very early (not even a week of camp has passed), but I think there is some reason to be worried.

Not to sound like a jerk, but I think my suggestion about trading down from the #5 is looking better.

Well the reason why players are getting these outrageous deals is because pf the Peyton Manning extension. it was ridiculous and ran the pay scale up for everyone. Pay the man give him his due. He was the first top 10 pick to sign, stop crying cause you not getting paid that much. the Danny will get him a good contract and he will continue to play. and by the way who cares if someone had dread locks in college. Matt bowen aint gonna cut at safety, any safety spot.

Ramsey fan we shoould have traded Ramsey to Miami for a number one we would got more bang for the buck. Receivers should wear stickem not QB's

Man, I think some you people are being harshly critical.
Do you mean to tell me none of guys have never complained about your job or felt under paid? The only difference is when Sean Taylor complains, it gets rumored (have you seen a single quote from Sean Taylor) in the newspapers and TV.
Sean Taylor is even getting critized and embarrased by his peers in the media by saying he took a bad deal. Now Kellen Winslow II (the king of selfishness) is blaming Sean Taylor's deal for his hold out.
I will give you something real to worry about and regret. Taylor Jacobs is already on the sidelines with yet another injury. It is only the second or third day of camp and this guy is already hurt. Why is there no talk of regret about drafting him or calling him weak? The guy is a no show.
I am willing to bet Taylor Jacobs will continue to be injury prone just like Ladell Betts.

While I am getting annoyed about always reading negative things about Taylor, I'm not overly concerned about him changing agents, again.

The most important things are he was in camp on time and he is on the field. Granted he hasn't been sharp yet, but that's to be expected. Don't listen to what blowhards like Lenny P are going to say. They eat stuff like this right up. You can almost see Lenny P pointing and laughing at the 'Skins.

If I recall LaVar was very lost in his rookie season as well, he's turned out alright. Like any rookie, Taylor needs time, reps and patience from the fans.

From everything I have read and seen of Sean Taylor... he seems, yes, a bit unusual. But Barry Sanders-type unusual, not Ricky Williams.

My read on him is that he is a "gamer." I think he IS the type of guy with an Allen Iverson view of practice... "I mean what are we talking about? Practice?? We're talking about practice man." I wouldn't be harsh in saying I would bet he doesn't really give 100% in practice... maybe that's just his personality... to save it all up for game days. I played baseball with guys who would hit 250 balls off of a tee every morning.... but I've also been around guys so naturally talented that they really just went through the motions at practice, not look so great, but at game time, were monsters.

You look at his INT totals last year at Miami and you HAVE to be wowed. He is an absolute ball hawk. He needs FULL SPEED plays to read and react to... I believe THAT is where his true magical talent lies... I think it may take 'til about GAME 3 or 4 to get back in "game time" mode... but he'll get his confidence and be unhuman.

And he wont hold out if he doesnt have a great year, and if he does have a great year he'll get paid 9 million anyways so he wotn need to hold out. He fired the agents becaues he thinks he could have had more and doesnt want it to happen again, but I dont think hes alreayd going to try and get more.

I'm beginning to wonder why there is so much negativity towards Taylor. He's been in camp, what a week...give the kid some time to adjust and to get back to playing "speed". as stated before, his previous agents got a deal together, which he agreed to and got to camp. that should be a gold sticker right there, considering what other first round picks missed big portions of TC before.

just give the kid some time...if you watched him at all last year, you'll know that he is special and he will prove to be a great caliber safety when the time comes. just don't expect Miami type numbers out of the gate in the NFL.

right, he's a rookie, rough around the edges, but i'll wait till at least 4 weeks into the regular season to see if he can contribute... might take him a year or so to fully learn the NFL...

Rookie growing pains....everyone is different and some people have a tougher time adjusting than others. He will be fine.

I have a question though: If he earns his incentives (say he goes to the Pro Bowl or something), does that change the remainder of his contract, or just effect the current year? I know that no one really knows the details of his contract, but maybe someone has some insight on how they usually work.
Just something I was thinking about, especially with all talk of his new agent possibly trying to re-negotiate the contract in a year or two.

if he goes to the probowl he gets 9 millino for that year I beleive, far more than any other safety. Then the next year its back to his base salary and another chance to make the excalator clauses. I think if he meakes the probowl every year then the contract is only a four year deal.
